I honestly don't see the problem with copying things so long as you are open about the inspiration or at least don't claim it to be orginal or unique. Copying is also okay if you make something worlds better. What we want is a fun Minecraft experience. The better the mods, the better the fun. If someone complains because someone is copying but the copied one is better, well, get over it. I think this refers to eloraam's tubes or something? Is there a problem I'm missing? I really don't see any.
While I'd argue that eloraam's "supposed" copying is just the natural progression of the mod that'd just lead to a lot of pointless arguing with no real conclusion, rather the real solution to all of this is that when the official mod API comes out modders go straight to that, the problem is that modders will have to rewrite their mods from scratch. It's either we are stuck with this mixed unreliable and troublesome compatibility or the modders join together in this for the future of modding.
I am really disappointed in what happened with BTW and Forge but really what Elooram did was really just dumb. I don't know much about modding but taking up so much class files, which does make it difficult to mod, for something stupid like placing torches on glass panels... (or whatever it was) seems to be just a waste.... It is sad, how ever, that I won't be able to use my 2 favorite mods together (Industrial Craft and Better than Wolves), but I do see why he quit and I truly respect him.
@FlowerChildXL I'm sorry you couldn't get along with Eloraam, but the users are the ones who pay the price for that in the end. I personally have 2 or 3 worlds that are stranded in 1.7.3 because BTW is no longer compatible with the forge mods I'm using. Could you at least consider making BTW not incompatible with forge mods?

But then when talking about compatibly with other mods now that the forge is unsupported he says that so many base class's that he can't guarantee its compatibility with anything. This just doesn't add up as a valid reasoning, and I feel this is not quite true.
@gyro2death Then you'd be wrong. There's a big difference between the base-class modifications I make to achieve specific functionality within BTW, and doing the same thing with a general purpose API that is meant to be used by multiple modders. Also, I have never come anywhere close to modifying 13 base-classes for a single *small* feature like what happened in the example I've provided about the Forge. The scale and context are completely different.

Since the continued development of BTW is entirely dependent on my enjoyment of the process (since I only do this as a hobby, and don't make any profit off of it), this decision is therefore based on preserving the existence of BTW itself. So yeah, I think you will agree that's rather more important than compatibility :)

@Battosay52 The thing is the idea's Eloraam have taken most obviously (they have a post on their blog about this with a link to a great article on the topic) would be BC's pipes and IC's energy system. Yet Eloraam and Alblaka as well as SpaceToad get along fine. In a talk they had over the matter E and A discovered while they both have different visions for their mods, they still need the same basic systems to get there. As such both mods grow from swapping idea's back and forth.

BC and RP allow you to filter any items not because it's simpler and not because it's more powerful. It's to allow you to filter items from other mods.
But BTW filters only items it knows about. And even if other modder wants to make his items filterable by BTW, he can't: it's against BTW copyright. (I tried that myself).
I used BTW and other Forge mods, I'm really sad that FlowerChild part away from the project for "selfish reasons" imho and because BTW alone vs all the Forge mods doesn't stand out that much in a mere player's point of view.
All I can hope is at least to be compatible with Forge's in a way or another, atm I've to drop btw out and I'm a bit sad about it. :/

@MrEnrohk RedPower IMO is shaping out to be a rather major mod. It has power, control, distribution/sorting, production, construction (not yet though), cosmetics, and they all work together far better than you can get EE BC and IC to.

Go watch FlowerChild's opinion on the Minecraft Forge. Watch for the part where he says "He wants to accommodate as many modders as possible". Apparently that doesn't include Eloraam. Newsflash: if you want a single unified API, eventually you'll need to modify most base classes. I guess FC wasn't really willing to put in the work to make it happen. If it's a pain to update, get more modders on board with the dev team.
Also I fail to see what part of RP is "ripping off" BTW...

I love BTW, but I also love Red Power, the ability to lace some redwire underneath the Habachis and cover the cabling into somthing attractive and efficient in less than 30 is REALLY awesome. Redstone is okay, yet an menial and annoying task at times. Redpower makes the Redstone dependant things in BTW satisfying.
I believe that 'starting' BTW is at a better difficulty than most of the other big forge mods out there-- such as Buildcraft only needing two blocks of wood, or stone, and a piece of glass to make the pipes. Industrialcraft is better, but it becomes 'OP' early on. It's simple enough to make the diamond drill on third minecraft day, if you have a decent starting collection of gear. I think the Macerator should be set back to a second-tier machine, rather than first.
I personally like a bunch of mods in my game (when I have my own) because I wanted some variety and I wanted to be more technical and express my imagination and have my own fun but that's my own perspective.
@Jaycephus01 Although he does come off as that, I do not believe thats the case. He and Eloraam had issues from the start. Yet he didnt say anything, at least publicly, about his unhappiness working with Forge. Eloraam started adding functions that directly compares to BTW.
Now Ive played with IC, BTW, BC and RP. And to me they are all easy mode for minecraft. They take out the work for just about everything. With BTW, you have to use logical thinking to attain the mechanics u want
i agree, the things from other mods showing up in redpower is getting ridiculous. its one thing if they were incompatible, but since theyre all meant to be compatible in forge its just ridiculous that theyde feel the need to add their own block dispensers and pipes and so on.
i think all mod makers of much played mod's are walking around with a to big ego. and i think he is pissed because eloraam is kinda making stuff from other mods, but then way better, like the platforms from her new project. and it is logical that she is adding stuff to MCforge that is good for her, she is one of the developers and she also make mods for fun, so it wouldn't be that fun for her also if she should be worrying about all the mods that use MCforge.

I played better than wolves this summer and worked it into my cliff house. Really enjoyed playing with it. Just a little miffed that all its content was deleted when It updated minecraft.
I'm sorry but watching this video the overriding thought I'm left with is that Flowerchild says that he left forge because they were adding hooks into the base game and gradually expanding... But he's putting his own hooks in left and right to base classes...

For mod makers to make the kind of mods that they want, and that the community enjoys, hooks are needed. They can either go in forge, and be compatible, or you can only have one mod...
@dncingshadow There's a difference between adding a couple of hooks here and there, to add functionality that lots of mod would use, and something like modifying a dozen of base classes just to stick torches on panels, or re-writing extra huge portion of the code just to fit your own need

1) you can uninstall BTW without any problem at all, the mod blocks will disappear, the only problem will be when you open a chest cointaining item from the mod

I can see and understand, redpower is taking over. Its almost industrialcraft with solar panels, its got pipes like buildcraft, now sorters and buffers etc. Soon you wont used buildcraft or industrailcraft. I love redpower for what it is supos to be, Redpower wires etc. I've always enjoyed this mod so I'll stick with it
Will i still be able to use forge mods? because I really liek some of the other forge mods, and if i have to make a choice (i'm sorry) but i'll choose to drop BTW to play a lot of other mods. I respect FlowerChilds all the way, but there are jsut too many forge mods i love and i'd rather use those than BTW. :(
Alright Flowerchild, I really understand the position your in. Now this makes me sad that I can't use all my other mods without losing compatibility, but I know that you are angry/frustrated with Eloram, who is acting like a jerk and 'stealing' functionality from mods.
I agree with flowerchild that it's unfair of eloraam to take the functionality from other mods and put them in her own. It's too bad that this means I'll never be able to use BTW because of it.
Here's a CRAZY idea though: have you guys thought of maybe making ONE mod as a collaborative effort so that all your ideas get in as well as reduce redundancy? I can't imagine why it wouldn't be hugely successful especially if you all work on an aspect of it that correlates with each of your fortes

@Battosay52 I'll never use it because it will clash with almost every mod I have that uses Forge, which are not limited to Redpower, Industrial, or Build. Again, I appreciate Flower's reasoning, but to be frank, BTW isn't worth losing all of them. I was postulating that if every major modder such as Flower, Space Toad, Eloraam, etc who DOES use the Forge API collaborated to make one mod that incorporated all your ideas into one cohesive expansion, it would be a success.
When Notch stepped down and gave control to Jeb, Jeb announced he was working on a Minecraft API so BTW is incompatible now but if this new API works out i hope FC considers that as an alternative
I fully understand why FC are dropping Forge, then a so big API updates so slow and the only reason you wait for it is because of compability issues and other things in that category. And message to FC; I really appriciate how much you care for your audience and make the mod better and better! Keep going mate!
IndustrialCraft and Millenaire were the first mods I ever used because the main reason I bought Minecraft (Aether) took way too long to release (I read that they would release for 1.6 so I bought the game the week 1.6 was released). If Aether, Millenaire & the new Better Than Wolves are compatible, I will give Better Than Wolves a try but if not, then I will not make a 3rd modded jar to have another incompatible mod. I say this because Aether uses the Shocka API and that conflicts w/ Forge.
I envy you so much, that base... i want to make one like that so bad, but i cant, i have really big problems with dimensions and how to set things right and the size i want them, so everything in my world is crappy and ugly, and very rarely functional... Anyways, can you share any tips to make amazing stuff like that? One more thing: I really like you! Keep doing this forever in your eternal life.

@n4516 hes not saying its better then all the others, he is saying it doesn't fit well with all the others and seems better alone, mostly because his mod is *harder*(you do get new awesome items, but you have to put a lot of work into getting them) and has a very different feel

This made me uninstall the other mods I use and give it a try. Have to say Iam enjoying the challange. Buildscrafts automation was fun but took away from what I fell in love with. If I wanted unlimited resources theirs Creation Mode. Thanks FC and thank you Battosay for putting this up.

I stopped using Better than Wolves for a while and was using IC, BC, EqEx, and RedPower. From playing those mods and eventually getting bored from it I have learned that the combination of those mods makes thing way too easy. BuildCraft quarries and Equivialent Exchange items just sucked out the fun once I got everything. I am going to return to Better than Wolves again and give it another try. :) Thanks FlowerChildXL, you rock.
@n4516 you didnt listen well did you, he said why it was better played alone, because most of the mods out there makes things easier to gather, craft, sneeze, ect. while he tries to still keep it challenging.
Regarding IC, BC, RP being "much" better really depends on what you want from a mod, i like all of them, but BTW is the one i keep coming back too because it feel more like minecraft and not some other game that looks like it.
@juulmorten I love toying with IC, et al, but like you, BTW is what I keep coming back to. I create a lot of "Mod" worlds and end up deleting them with in a week because I'm bored. When you can blast a hole to bedrock in one click it's creative mod ;)
I call BTW "what Minecraft should be". FlowerChild seems to understand what's actually fun about Minecraft and has designed a system that enhances that.

Why does he really care if he thinks ELo is "copying" im sure any mods that you added Came from somewhere or did you invent each item in BTW? Everything in BTW has never been done before? @Battosay52 The thing is the idea's Eloraam have taken most obviously (they have a post on their blog about this with a link to a great article on the topic) would be BC's pipes and IC's energy system. Yet Eloraam and Alblaka as well as SpaceToad get along fine. In a talk they had over the matter E and A discovered while they both have different visions for their mods, they still need the same basic systems to get there. As such both mods grow from swapping idea's back and forth.

BC and RP allow you to filter any items not because it's simpler and not because it's more powerful. It's to allow you to filter items from other mods.
But BTW filters only items it knows about. And even if other modder wants to make his items filterable by BTW, he can't: it's against BTW copyright. (I tried that myself).

I used BTW and other Forge mods, I'm really sad that FlowerChild part away from the project for "selfish reasons" imho and because BTW alone vs all the Forge mods doesn't stand out that much in a mere player's point of view.
All I can hope is at least to be compatible with Forge's in a way or another, atm I've to drop btw out and I'm a bit sad about it. :/

Go watch FlowerChild's opinion on the Minecraft Forge. Watch for the part where he says "He wants to accommodate as many modders as possible". Apparently that doesn't include Eloraam. Newsflash: if you want a single unified API, eventually you'll need to modify most base classes. I guess FC wasn't really willing to put in the work to make it happen. If it's a pain to update, get more modders on board with the dev team.
Also I fail to see what part of RP is "ripping off" BTW...

I love BTW, but I also love Red Power, the ability to lace some redwire underneath the Habachis and cover the cabling into somthing attractive and efficient in less than 30 is REALLY awesome. Redstone is okay, yet an menial and annoying task at times. Redpower makes the Redstone dependant things in BTW satisfying.

I believe that 'starting' BTW is at a better difficulty than most of the other big forge mods out there-- such as Buildcraft only needing two blocks of wood, or stone, and a piece of glass to make the pipes. Industrialcraft is better, but it becomes 'OP' early on. It's simple enough to make the diamond drill on third minecraft day, if you have a decent starting collection of gear. I think the Macerator should be set back to a second-tier machine, rather than first.

@Jaycephus01 Although he does come off as that, I do not believe thats the case. He and Eloraam had issues from the start. Yet he didnt say anything, at least publicly, about his unhappiness working with Forge. Eloraam started adding functions that directly compares to BTW.
Now Ive played with IC, BTW, BC and RP. And to me they are all easy mode for minecraft. They take out the work for just about everything. With BTW, you have to use logical thinking to attain the mechanics u want

i agree, the things from other mods showing up in redpower is getting ridiculous. its one thing if they were incompatible, but since theyre all meant to be compatible in forge its just ridiculous that theyde feel the need to add their own block dispensers and pipes and so on.

I'm sorry but watching this video the overriding thought I'm left with is that Flowerchild says that he left forge because they were adding hooks into the base game and gradually expanding... But he's putting his own hooks in left and right to base classes...
So he's unhappy that forge is doing what he is doing?
For mod makers to make the kind of mods that they want, and that the community enjoys, hooks are needed. They can either go in forge, and be compatible, or you can only have one mod...

@dncingshadow There's a difference between adding a couple of hooks here and there, to add functionality that lots of mod would use, and something like modifying a dozen of base classes just to stick torches on panels, or re-writing extra huge portion of the code just to fit your own need

I can see and understand, redpower is taking over. Its almost industrialcraft with solar panels, its got pipes like buildcraft, now sorters and buffers etc. Soon you wont used buildcraft or industrailcraft. I love redpower for what it is supos to be, Redpower wires etc. I've always enjoyed this mod so I'll stick with it

I agree with flowerchild that it's unfair of eloraam to take the functionality from other mods and put them in her own. It's too bad that this means I'll never be able to use BTW because of it.
Here's a CRAZY idea though: have you guys thought of maybe making ONE mod as a collaborative effort so that all your ideas get in as well as reduce redundancy? I can't imagine why it wouldn't be hugely successful especially if you all work on an aspect of it that correlates with each of your fortes

@Battosay52 I'll never use it because it will clash with almost every mod I have that uses Forge, which are not limited to Redpower, Industrial, or Build. Again, I appreciate Flower's reasoning, but to be frank, BTW isn't worth losing all of them. I was postulating that if every major modder such as Flower, Space Toad, Eloraam, etc who DOES use the Forge API collaborated to make one mod that incorporated all your ideas into one cohesive expansion, it would be a success.

When Notch stepped down and gave control to Jeb, Jeb announced he was working on a Minecraft API so BTW is incompatible now but if this new API works out i hope FC considers that as an alternative

IndustrialCraft and Millenaire were the first mods I ever used because the main reason I bought Minecraft (Aether) took way too long to release (I read that they would release for 1.6 so I bought the game the week 1.6 was released). If Aether, Millenaire & the new Better Than Wolves are compatible, I will give Better Than Wolves a try but if not, then I will not make a 3rd modded jar to have another incompatible mod. I say this because Aether uses the Shocka API and that conflicts w/ Forge.

I stopped using Better than Wolves for a while and was using IC, BC, EqEx, and RedPower. From playing those mods and eventually getting bored from it I have learned that the combination of those mods makes thing way too easy. BuildCraft quarries and Equivialent Exchange items just sucked out the fun once I got everything. I am going to return to Better than Wolves again and give it another try. :) Thanks FlowerChildXL, you rock.

@n4516 you didnt listen well did you, he said why it was better played alone, because most of the mods out there makes things easier to gather, craft, sneeze, ect. while he tries to still keep it challenging.
Regarding IC, BC, RP being "much" better really depends on what you want from a mod, i like all of them, but BTW is the one i keep coming back too because it feel more like minecraft and not some other game that looks like it.

I call BTW "what Minecraft should be". FlowerChild seems to understand what's actually fun about Minecraft and has designed a system that enhances that.
