2 me like prince and morris day he's on of the freakiest, best and funkiest stage personas ever! and that purple suit is taking it home where it belongs to...just too kool. he's even cool without mundi, and he sounds perfect, so does the band. being there must have been a blast! thx 4 sharing...!
my family looked down on me because i was nt endicott (like cousin alex, what a bore,in spite of his money) ,imagine trying to turn cab calloway into thurgood marshall !!!! ha ha ha i got the last laugh!!!
this was a great show - Caroline Was a Drop Out is my favourite live song! and life boat party too, when they did the first half of it in half time - and then finished it in double time! was immense! x
They are still tight. And to all of the people that were lucky enough to see these guys live, they are awesome aren't they? I have not seen them live since the late 80s early 90s, but I will never forget their shows.
Noticed a Chaka Khan vid on your channel. She's playing the Jazz Cafe next month so I'm gonna be there for that one too. Who knows, maybe Prince will pop in to jam? ;-)
I wish I had done but they're my 2 fave KC songs and it was bad enough not being able to dance through Endicot so I had to stop recording and boogie through Gina Gina. I'm sure you understand. Great gigs though. I went down again on the Friday too. The band had Mikey Graham from Culture Club on bass. Quality. :-)
Fully understand ! Was there too on the Friday...what a show...Gina Gina has always been a fave and I thought it was a great uptempo version...saw Mikey G, he looked pleased to be performing behind such a legend for once lol. Cheers.
Fair point. :-) Do you know what happened to the bass player, drummer and girl singer that were there on Wednesday? I thought doing "No Fish Today" without a girl singer was a bit of a waste of time. Great set otherwise though. Only "In The Jungle" could have made it any better. :-)
Not sure but it was planned as the band changes were advertised in advance. Don't ever remember hearing 'In the Jungle' live except on the Ritz Video but it is a favourite too. Roll on next time :-)
"In the Jungle" is also on the rare 1982 Live in Cologne, Germany concert video. The Coconuts start out in leopard tops and grass skirts, then lose the skirts to reveal very brief leopard bikini bottoms and do a manic improv "jungle dance" with assorted percussion instruments! Coati Mundi does this hilarious bit where he's drumming while bent forward on one leg. Everyone's dripping in sweat by the end of the song. The song had really evolved into a kind of mini jungle review.
