An absolute classic. It's 11:22 on Grand Final day, I couldn't leave home to make my way to M.C.G. without listening to this beauty of a track. They certainly don't make 'em like this anymore!!
guitarheroadmira said about two months ago that "One day in September" sounds too like "Up there Cazaly".
Well how more alike it is to "Lipstick on Your Collar" as recorded by Connie Francis back in the 60's when Mike was a young, up and coming Guitar-Playing Singer?
"One day in September, told a tale on you. One day in September, said you were untrue, etc.
I am sure that the very close similarity between th two songs is quite coincidental, and accidental.
The first part is Marks Of The Year from 1980 That Was The Season That Was video. The last 30sec was from the actual clip of One Day In September when they showed a small snippet of it on the World Of Sport 25th Anniversary show in 1984.
The video I'm talking about must have taken the footage from 1980 That Was The Season That Was. It was basically the best of punch ups with a highlights of marks and goals ran for an hour. Showed things like a female ump pulling the shorts out of her backside over and over again.
Crows are pretenders. Even if they win against Collingwood, they haven't beaten teh Bulldogs, Saints or Geelong all years. Have actually thrashed in 4 of those games.
02:46 Wini reds LOL.... On the debate of what era was better, I only remember 70s onwards, but 70s & 80s & some of the 90s was tough & hard but now we have the new athletic breed & I like it. fast, & spectacular with some of the most freakish efforts. All good, & it moved with the times. Rather AFL than bum sniffing NRL...3 men trying to push 2 men up 1 mans bum!
Question fellow AFL fans. I have dellusional step father who seems to think that a premiership side of the late 70's or early 80's could beat any modern side like the Cats. I think he has his head up his sphincter myself. Pls comment.
Probably pulling your leg, look how fast the game is today and the fitness of players. Top teams in the mid 80's would struggle to beat the top VAFA teams today
you cant compare teams from different era's, you can only compare teams from the same era's, no one could beat hawthorn in the 80's but who know what would happened in they played in this day an age, what if what if we will never know
As someone who witnessed that great era of football and who loved football a bit more then thought i'd be a good candidate for that question..... 30 years ago it was big , real big ! - the skills ? we'll, we thought those yesteryear top teams were 'spot on' co's we did'nt see any better examples and the hype over it all just went straight to heart, was truelly exciting times
But compared to say.. today, Umm no ! - any team in the current 2009 top 8 would hand their arses on a plate.
17 bloody years but what a way for us to win it and now a new glorious era for the HAWKS to rival our eras of the 70's and 80's ... BEWARE ALL YOU OTHER PRETENDERS THE HAWKS ARE BACK TO DOMINATE ANOTHER ERA.
god we made some good theme / novelty tunes back then that had a great feel about it (something seriously lacking in todays uninspiring tunes).. whether it was Mike Bradys "one day in september" or his "up there cazaly".
Just right across the board really !
* Peter Best - care for kids (1979) tv campaign)
* Salvadore Smith - I'm an Aussie yes i am (1979)
* Shirls Neighbourhood (kids tv)
* Mojo Singers - C'mon Aussie C'mon (cricket) the list went on & on .
footy in terms of a sport is better these days, It just lacks character. People used to play for passion... now they play for pay. I loved 90s football.. I think the difference is due to there being no more home grounds that dont seat ridiculous amounts of people.
yeah i agree with you..it's a better game in terms of speed and skill but taking the big bumps and a bit of biff out of the game is the biggest travesty.
ur an idiot, watch some vision from the 'hard era' and u'll see that the same free kicks were paid and even more (kickin in danger)
the only thing that has changed is that footy players are a lot worse these days. notice in this video the height they get WITHOUT TOUCHING THE OPPONENTS BACK!! the afl was right for bringin in the hands in the bak rule because u shouldnt need to do it. it's simple -- DON'T DO IT! U DON'T NEED TO!!!! when players finally get it thru their head the game will be good
idiot??? WTF ???????? if u think the game isn't over umpired now compared with eras gone by you're on drugs. quit calling me an idiot for stating my point of view which i'm sure 90% of people would agree with.
alrite i can understand where ur comin from so i take bak the idiot comment but i think if u look into it u'll find most the free kicks that are paid are because of chopping arms or hands in the back, clumsy tackles, off the ball stuff etc. ie: things that were punished back then as well. the only thing that has obv changed is the interaction with umpires, which is understandable when ur trying to recruit umps -- no1 wants to be abused a la brian taylor lol
