Jim made alot of singers very rich. his music is by far the greatest written, produced and sung. he had a way to bring out the best in singers. he made them better. from bonnie tyler to meatloaf to barbara streisand, his music will live and shine forever. if no one has ever heard a jim steinman song, you are missing out and you shouldnt die never hearing his music
Easily the best recording as far as orchestration and pacing, and steinman's emotion is perfect - he just doesn't have the voice or control.
Such a shame - Meat Loaf's version is OK but his voice is past it really, very strained, and the backing is nothing on this. If only he hadn't ruined it touring Bat he could have sung on this one. :(
Wow!! Just been browsing through his song's how incredible are these?? I only found him out cause i hear Madonna might be colaborating with him on her new album! Is he in the 80's genre or something i have no clue??? Im only 19 so never hear this kinda music.
would never really say he'd be known as a singer but as a fantastic songwriter. however i think this rendition of probably one of his most emotional and powerful songs has yet to be beaten by anybody.
I couldn't help but wonder that by 1984, Streisand's voice wasn't up to the sadistic, fiendish demands of this most difficult song. Of course, Meat loaf didn't fare any better, even he, possessor of a extremely wide-ranging powerful voice, was way past his prime when he recorded this killer of a song.
By far the best version of the song...Streisand's is great and Meat Loaf's is ok (eh), but this takes the cake. It has so much more power behind it. This version would have been an amazing piece for Meat Loaf to do, shame his voice was screwed at the time of the recording :(
Steinman never received the credit he deserved for a lot of his works, this track hits me the same way today as it did thirty years ago :)

If you have never seen Steinman perform live, it is a great experience, and to see him and Meatloaf together, magic!

Everyone appreciates how amazing Jim Steinman is, as a song writer. But his voice has so much passion. Fantastic : )

Streisand's version is so much better. But he did write it, so he gets some credit.

OMG! Just heard the end bit for the first time! Love it!
Have had the album for years but that wasn't included on the CD in the UK... guess it was censored!

One of the most under rated Composers/Lyricists in my lifetime. As A Playwright & Lyricist myself he is one of my 5 inspirations:
