  • go low brass/reeds

  • where is the timpani

  • @Yamahaaltoplayer The horns probably aren't good enough for those exposed parts. We're playing this song, and altos play all horn stuff.

  • I am playing this song at school! >:D

    Go clarys!!!!

  • The timpani in this song.......these are the days when I love being a percussionist

  • TUBAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Gimme dat bass trombone.

  • Yeah this song is beautiful! But it is no cake-walk. Trust me, I've played 1st clarinet. :\

  • @littlejman100 FUCKKYEAHHHH

  • Why is everybody judging it just listen damn!

  • I was about to say, "hey wheres the snare?" but then I was like, "oh, yay. ^_^"

  • I couldn't here the bass for there little bit!!!!!!

  • I'm playing bassoon on this song this year...and 1st Alto for competitions (schedule conflicts with all of our alto players...)

  • doesnt sound like there's too many trombones...

  • The clarinet section in this bugs me so much. First, i'm guessing it's not a big band cuz it sounds like there's only one on each part. The fast technical sections are absolutely terrible, the clarinet solo sounded fantastic, but the ritard dragged on for way too long.

  • @LockhartX99 wait, there's a clarinet solo in this? Do you mean the beginning part after the fanfare-ish part?

  • @LockhartX99

You know, some schools are lucky even to have those three clarinets, so I wouldn't judge

  • It is something that everyone needs to play. My band director actually had the composer as her allstate director when she was in middle school.

  • My high school band performed this song for our opener in 1979 and I can still to this day remember the entire color guard routine!

  • I remember I had to play the french horn solo for competition, first place baby:)

  • This was the hardest song in our program but I absolutely loved it because it sounds so cool :)

  • Thumbs up if you were a first clarinet :)

  • i played this as a tuba and i'm proud!

    Bb, F, Bb... :)

  • @jacobblack18 I played the solo at letter L :)

  • lovely wish my school could perform to this standard of excellence

  • The clarinets.....need to improve...

  • Beautiful, but why are the alto saxes playing horn cues and horn SOLOS? It was played nicely, but I heard horns in the band.

  • Go french horns :)

  • 0:57 SQUEEK!!!!!! :D

  • amazing playing of this song, our high school cant come close to this

  • TUBA SOLO :D

  • @pokeythecactusfan YEAH!! GO TUBAS!!

  • My high school Symphonic Band played this. It was one of my favorites!

  • OMG the clarys sound really good!

By the way all the people who say "I'm in seventh grade and this is SO easy" It may be easy but it's not that you can play it, anybody can play it, but can you play it with emotion and sound good? Do you paint a picture in somebody's mind when they hear it? So all the little twerps who say they can play it, I believe you but you can maybe play it half -assed...*kudos to bobo324mg*

  • CLARINETS<3

  • @papeiks2 yea CLARINETS <3!! =) AMAZIN!!

  • HA! this song was played every football game. it was our opening song in my high school band. couldnt stand playing the SAME song every friday. but now its definitely a great memory. yeah. i was in the band. percussion section on lock. lol

  • The 7th grade intermediate band I play this

  • nice flute solo! our flutes suck -.-

  • So easy and im in middle schoo

  • @zebes765 Yea but you guys probably make it really suck LOL a piece like this is all about the emotion you can put into your playing in order to really make the listeners feel the music rather than just hear it. That's what good musicians do. Btw I'm in High School and i know that

  • @zebes765 haha me too I have to play this on percussion for an audition

  • intense nostalgia....

    YEAH CLARINETS

  • I played the marching band arrangement in high school and concert band arrangement in college.

  • @bellgo wow in college?! im in junior high and we have to learn this song!!! no wonder it's so hard!!

  • my all county band is playing this song and we "rock "it, to say the least

  • Augh! No Timpani!! Thats very important in this song

And no French Horn doing the solo?!

  • Augh! No Timpani!! Thats very important in this song

  • Brings me back to my high school days in band.

  • T.T Why can't I hear the flutes when they play in unison with the clarinets >.>

  • This was the opener for my second marching season in high school! Ah, memories. I miss marching band. :)

  • Lol, who here can still remember what part they had in this song? I played this years back and i remember 2nd trumpet

  • @timmymonsta wood block.

  • I enjoyed playing this in college.

  • Ahhh the Freshmen days. Great year.

  • Ohh it sounds so much more epic-er than when my band played it. o.o And nice flutes at 6:30 ish. Our temporary first flutes can't take it up an octave like it says, so me and my stand buddy are trying to do that in their stead. Even if we're 2nd flutes and prefer not to take the high parts.

  • we played this at blue lake fine arts camp. lol

  • I still remember the upbeat mood and feel of this wonderful piece; the joy of reciting the tuba part. It is this overture, the final note of freshman year, that I cherish vivid memories of. A piece I will never forget.

  • Played this tonight!!(: love it

  • I'm a flute player playing the piece right now.

    The clarinets/flutes FREAKED out two after N - around 5:05 - to after Q - about 5:30.

Other than that, it was good.

  • Goodness, we played this my freshman year of high school back in 2001. I can't believe it's been 9 years already. I miss those days.

  • We're playing this for our concert. I don't like it D: I mean, it's pretty and all.. I just don't like PLAYING it. It's not much fun to me.

  • @Hmm8824 I know that feeling-- I was the trombone section for this piece...

  • @KitsWillEYourBrains Oh wow, yeah I was the oboe section. I'm the only one we have. I love playing oboe, but this was one piece I didn't care for.

  • Haha i remember having the little clarinet solo in this piece back when i played it! Such a great piece of music.

  • i love playing this song!! Clarinet is the BEST!! So much fun !!

  • ur tuba player blows ass, i mean he fucking raped the solo, god it sucked, i played the solo 50x better and Im a second year student

  • Jesus Christ, calm down.

  • And your so modest... douche bag.

  • Pretty darn good for a high school band.

  • This song is awesome for me! I play the trumpet. >:3 I'm just an 8th grader and already playing this stuff.

  • @icestripe Your point? You can comment on a video without trying to brag...

  • i love playing this song...i'm a flute

  • my band is playing this i love this song im a clairnet player

  • Dido!! That part is the best

  • My band teacher insists that this is a piece that everybody in band at one point MUST play.

  • Can't agree more. Played it my junior and senior years in highschool, about 2-4 years ago. My senior year, we got 1st in State for small bands. This song was totally rocking. Don't mess with the small schools, because most of the time, small bands sound better than big ones.

  • My high school band had about 20 or 25 and we would always be louder than the 100+ member bands at parades!!

  • @KitsWillEYourBrains It's true. And also that pretty mcuh every judge has seen or heard it or played

  • @peterpieqt8 Haha, at first I didn't like this piece much. And then as we practiced it more, I had a lot of fun-- especially because I'm the trombone section. xD

  • @peterpieqt8 At first, I really didn't like this piece at all. After performing it multiple times, I actually like it a lot. I'm glad to have played.

  • @KitsWillEYourBrains I'll never forget the way that our Clarinet Two's acoustics around 4:30 sounded like a beautiful bagpipe. And that fugue. Sheesh.

  • haha isn't it so funny like to sit and listen to it like years later? and you can still remember the sheet music.

  • Know exactly what you mean. I havent actually played the song in 5+ years but I can still remember all the runs in the clarinet part.

  • @intothesun Haha I hear you there xD

  • omg i luv dis song i cnt w8 2 plaii dis

  • loved this song, played it in 8th grade

  • Oh yeah! This was fun to play. It sounds like a score to some science fiction film.

  • my high school band is gonna perform this in about a month...cant wait!
