blah blah blah... there is ONE true Steadicam.... and it's the only one called Steadicam.... Glidecam... flycam... or whatever are all pieces of crap! professional operators use steadicam. there is a reason rigs like the Ultra2 cost upwards of 65,000.00$
its likes comparing Chevy to Ferrari and arguing that they're both equal because they are both cars... one is obviously better. TIFFEN STEADICAM
@viniciusb Aye, s'pose it means I gotta get into the habit of reading the description now, heh. And at least around here people aren't that acceptant of being in front of a camera. I've had a few people have a go at me for having my camera sitting on a tripod pointing in the direction they were headed. Ignorance on their behalf? I dunno.
@MichaelDaeche The person was clearly an actor. Think about it for a second. How likely is it that a person comes by on rolerblades at the exact second that you start demonstraiting how smoothly it could follow somebody?
This is a personal opinion... the Glidecam (2000&4000) are great for cameras HVX and lighter (not sure about JVC HD110's), but once you add the swingarm setup its very difficult because the handle is at a right angle. The Steadicams (NOT MERLIN) are great because of the not so angled handle and would be better for much heavier cameras. Based on the video, glidecam got pwned, notice the oporator had to keep the glidecam higher to prevent the handle bumping into the plate holding the camera.
At the biginning when I was dicideing what to get, I was looking into stabilizers that looked like the Merlin. What drove me away was that it didn't have that telescoping pole. Look at where the operators put their hands above, on the merlin you're jamming them into that little space and it doesn't make sense to me. I'm on a Glidecam2000, the DVX is perfect for it as long as you're willing to do it handheld w/out the swing arm. Plus, the 2000 is WAY LESS EXPENSIVE, but cheeply built.
Your wrong... Althought I think that the Glidecam 1000, 2000, and 4000 are junk, I post this comment in there defence. The handle never came close to touching the "plate" that holds the camera, (by the way it's called the "Stage".). The only way I see the handle hitting the stage is, if he booms down and pans or tilts the sled up.
I own the glidecam2000 (from 2007 or so) so I guess they made the stage farther from the handle/pivot assembly in their newer or this-year's model. All I know is using it handheld, no issue and very easy to manuver. When you add the swingarm you cannot counter-rotate the handle to get a very low angle shot, making it awkward to operate if you want low angle shots. All I know is it isn't as low as the "movcam avant s test clip"
Designed and manufactured by different company. Technically, the steadicam has better arms especially on the low-end models. But the cheapest glidecam is cheaper than that of steadicam. Both however, work on the same physical principles.

Lolling at the fact that you just ran up to a random girl and filmed her. Poor person being exposed onto the net without any consent whatsoever.

Whoops I meant "way less expensive, but [not] cheeply built." It is very solid and have used it for many applications.
