when you say "I recognise it's not sounding any good at the moment" you couldn't be more wrong. It is the most interesting part of your video, & the lines definitely have structure. Depends entirely upon the ear of the listener..
what kind of exercise would you recommend to be able to develop your left hand independence? ie, keeping a rhythm going while the right hand improvises?
@bobgsearch Thanks for giving me an opportunity for a shameless plug. :)
Our new website has just launched and we only host free music lessons. There's a few LH co-ordination videos on it already with more coming soon. I'd recommend checking out the basslines series along with the ostinatos video. Just check out our profile and click on the banner. (the web address is just schoolofmusiconline) Good luck.
This is the best improv video I've seen. Every other one is about the basics but no one moves past. Thank you for your time in creating this video. It was extremely helpful!
@schoolofmusiconline I just have one question. The relative minor of C major is A minor, so that being said, would the tension notes for a progression starting with an A minor chord be B,D,F ?
@live4themelody Short answer - tension notes for Am or Am7 are BDF#
Long answer - it's a little tougher with minor chords. With major chords the tension and resolution notes together make up the related scale - In a Cmajor7 the (resolution notes CEGB)+(tension notes DFA)=(related scale C Maj Scale). With minor7 chords the most common related scale to use is a Dorian scale. The dorian scale is like a major scale with a flat 3 and 7. So Am7 dorian scale is ABCDE(F#)GA and tension notes are BDF#.
@golden2314 Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner. It's a basic improvisation lesson so I didn't go into great detail like that. Definately in some future videos. Thanks for checking it out.
soooo...is tension notes a bit different from regular piano playing? the B note would actually be a tension note since it is building up tension to the C note
Thank you SO much for this tutorial. I've learnt more in 10 minutes about soloing than I have by looking at other so called "teachers" on youtube who do everything but teach soloing and go off at a tangent by exhibiting their flamboyant piano skills. This has been a great help.

That was a whole lot of unnescessary agression.
Try to understand what I meant instead of being so judgemental.
And go psychologist to find out why you get so worked up over small details.
