  • random question of the day. Has anyone flown off the top of whitney? let's say with the right conditions and an ultralight wing?

  • @Cormacpara Not too sure, lots of people have talked about it and considered top landing and then taking off. My impression as someone who prides himself about being able to launch anywhere is that it would be extremely difficult. It's a very low angle boulder field facing East and cliff on the West. With the right wind direction and a bit of help it could be doable though.

  • @garbagio good to know. thanks for the info! if YOU haven't done it yet then I am not going to try anytime soon!

  • @Cormacpara The other consideration is that it is illegal since it is in a National Park boundary. As with any hike n' fly don't hike up with your gear if you aren't willing to hike back down. For me it's a bit too far to consider with too much of a low probability of getting off.

  • @garbagio another good point. thanks for the info. Ill just have to wait until the wind backs down at mammoth! ; )
