my reasoning is not necessarily that these teams are really great especially on offense, but that their defenses (LSU, Wake, VT, Miami, Georgia, etc.) are always good, and that it is hard to play good defenses week in and week out and go undefeated, the pac-10 simply doesn't have the defenses to go with all those offenses, except for USC, hence their success, believe me I hate the ACC and dislike much of the SEC myself
