@kazoorapl How is it like to be a racist..? Ive always wondered about that, does it do you any good? Does it make your life better? please tell me why its good to be a racist..
@mmmmhonda Don't worry we get worse here. I never get how people find it so hard to drive in snow. Hell someone ditched a BMW Mini last time it snowed here, there was a slightly dusting which in no way affected my car which was on performance tyres.
I thought my old Mitsubishi Pajero was bad but this is just LOL No problems getting stuck anymore (atleast at snow since i bought old 1983 Nissan Patrol ;)
That H1 is terrible for snow, too much weight, you just plow through it and waste your energy. Jeeps and much lighter 4x4's are much better as they will go over the snow.
@jimmyp42002 Im going to have to disagree. You want as much weight on the snow as possible. Thats why people add sand bags on rear wheel vehicles. I've owned a wrangler in the winter and they suck. Their okay in deep snow, but death traps on ice and hard pack snow, do to their light weight you slide for ever.
@KatoKid85 yes and no. Adding some weight does help. But if your vehicle sinks in snow, your stuck. Same applies to climbing hills. Around here, the wind freezes up the sides of hills in winter. My Ranger can climb these no problem, but the larger vehicles (hummers, F-250's, etc) cannot do it with ease. As for sliding forever, you really shouldn't be sliding in the first place. I know from experience at a stoplight, my ranger can stop faster than a Ram 1500, I stopped at the line, he slid past.
WRONG!! The Jeep driver should have been rocking the front tires lock to lock. Deflating tires 60-70% will also help HUGE. The guy with the H1 Alpha is a fucking moron and should be taking the bus
@viper1966 Actually I was just mocking you, trying to show you how much of a dick you sound like when you leave comments. I figured you would have guessed that since you're 200,000 times smarter than me. Or did your giant ego get in the way of your tiny brain again. Oh well, try not to break your hip when you slip on the ice in those Canadian winters old man.
@viper1966 What are you talking about my geriatric friend? Please dont kill yourself. You've only got a few good years left. Go pop a Viagra and have yourself some fun.
The guy driving a hummer h1, doesn't really know how to drive a hummer... you lightly apply the brakes when your wheels are slipping while you give it the gas to transfer torque to the non-moving wheels.
Even the Finns(I live in Finnish Lapland now) think i am crazy when i talk about going off roading in the middle of winter, and how us Icelandic people tend to think "Snow everywyere = road everywhere" haha
Its full time 4WD, no locking differentials, just a brake bias system which requires the driver to apply the brakes slightly to trick the differentials into transferring power. The only locking part is the center differential in the transfer case. The system runs in H (high range) normally, but has HL (High Lock) and Low Range for more difficult terrain. The system is junk compared to the jeep's 4WD system.
How can they allow someone to drive a military grade 4x4, who doesn't know how to engage the center differential in these types of weather conditions?
Very common these days. Military personnel get their license/permit by driving a few miles on a highway and that's considered proper training. Hell when I test my soldiers they're offroad, sand, mud, etc. If they can drive through the terrain I have them set up for then they can drive on a highway. Its better to teach them what the vehicle can do, and how everything works than to just let them drive on a dry paved road for a couple miles which is completely useless.
That is if the driver knows how to properly operate the vehicle, but in most cases they don't unless they take the time to learn about the vehicle themselves and its capabilities, which the military has turned away from.
Well the new jeeps are too electronically controlled, and aren't diesel powered, which doesn't make sense because a couple years ago they had a diesel available in the grand cherokee and the liberty. Plus the new cherokees aren't exactly as rugged as they used to be, jeep (chrysler, Fiat) would have to completely change the design to make them more rugged, even the wrangler isn't as rugged as it should be and far to electronic now too.
Oh, I definitely agree there. I have to admit I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra, but after going up getting firewood and camping it is by far a piece of shit compared to my 88 F-250. They would be better if the differentials actually had lockers, hell they are completely open differentials not even limited slip. Plus they are too heavy and too big for any practical offroad use unless you have a completely wide open space they suck in tight spaces.
@wildbill23c right witch is why ill never know why the gov left jeep i gess thay didint cost that much and the prez was hay thes dam jeeps are too chep wer not wasting nearly that much money we need to spend more lol
Rule nr. 1 when you get stuck in snow - if you really want to move from the place, the front wheels shall be STRAIGHT. Btw, Hummer seems to be a piece of shit if it gets stuck in 40 cm of snow :)
The differentials don't have lockers, they are completely open, the only thing the driver can do is slightly apply the brakes to trick the differentials into transfering power, which by the way actually will work on any open differential vehicle.
"RAW" video?? Of some cars on snowy streets? That term is waaay overused. As far as I'm concerend, a "raw video" should be of perhaps a major crash, or a bank robbery and shootout, or lightning striking a sports crowd watching the match.... but cars on a snowy road??
Attention...a hummer is having trouble and so is a jeep. Do NOT attempt to leave your home until the roads have been scraped! That was deep snow. My parents have a cherokee. They havent been pulled out yet.....so you know this snow is bad.
military HMMWV's are full time 4WD there's no 2WD mode on them. There's H, HL, Neutral, and Low range. Normally you drive in H which leaves the center differential unlocked. Shifting to HL locks the center differential. There are technically no locking differentials in the front and rear of the military HMMWV's, you can trick them by using slight pressure on the brake pedal to help transfer power though.
Exactly. However, like everything else, more electronics = easier to operate???? I don't know but I never had a problem with my old truck having to get out, turn in the hubs manually, then getting back in the truck and pulling a lever, pretty damn good positive operating system. Now you hear of 4WD systems not engaging because a vacuum line is missing, broken, or leaking etc. I'd rather turn hubs and pull levers than rely on electronics.
I used to do that with my F-250 in the winter, as long as the hubs were locked in I could shift in and out of 4H without stopping. I laugh at new vehicles that say you can "shift on the fly" up to like 60MPH, umm if I'm going that fast why would I need 4WD, and what is that going to do to the drivetrain that is essentially in neutral, a sudden huge amount of torque will break something expensive eventually LOL. Sorry I'll stick to the old 4WD system.
I loved my jeep cherokee, but even its front axle engagement system was vacuum controlled, never had a problem with it, but it's something to think about when buying a jeep.
@wildbill23c actually not all dana 30's have the vacuum disconnect..mine doesnt..the ones that dont have the disconnect are called live axles. the ones with the disconnect are mainly for increased fuel economy..but when your building a hardcore offroad vehicle..its better to go live axle..less parts to fail. and its much easier to swap out the axle shaft on that side..on and off the trail. :) i love my cherokee too!
The damn HMMWV's don't even have locking differentials technically, its called a brake bias system which slight brake application is required to trick the differentials, but most people have no clue how to do it, and most people in the military that drive the damn HMMWV's don't even know how to do it, why, because the military don't teach anyone how to properly operate the vehicles. The driving test is driving xx miles on a highway somewhere, what good does that do? Nothing.
@wildbill23c ya but im saying that jeep did and it worked in wwI and wwII doge even made some nice army 4x4s but i think the hummer isint any good too bulky under powerd and limided slip it needs a 7.3 international harvester turbo and full time lockers Front and Back the motor would cost less than the chevy crap motor thay use and would lasr longer
hm well considering the Army puts people behind the wheels of the vehicles that don't even have a drivers license, much less be behind the wheel of a vehicle before they join the military I can see why that got stuck.
@SilentRaeth1 Actually no. I'm in the army and my MOS is an 88M Motor Transport Operator. You can not choose this MOS unless you already have a valid drivers license. If you loose your civilian licence all military vehicle licensing are suspended until you get a civilian license. As far as this Sergeant goes, he doesn't know how to drive an M998.
@BornInTheCreek Well someone messed up here in Arkansas because my roommate didn't have licenses before he went into the military and claims he talked his way into it. He hadn't been behind the wheel of a vehicle before and when he went to drill one weekend and they made him drive. He didn't know when the vehicle was in Drive it will move forward. I have no idea how he get got into 88M but I know for fact he is. They made him get his license's a few weeks ago before he went to A.I.T.
@BornInTheCreek Went to boot, failed at driving a truck said he couldn't drive straight. Hit every training IED they had on a trying course. Goes to college for 8months, not to mention gets dropped from ROTC bc he was to lazy to go to PT. Got Fat. Says he'll be a general, even without going to an Academy. Few weeks before semester ends he's made to get civilian licenses. Then goes to AIT, which I believe he's at now.
@etherialcruiser Actually correction. There's 3 different types of 4WD platforms the HHMV uses. The early models used the system you described above, but later models, say the late 80's to early 90's use a electronically selectable 4WD, and also they used a full time AWD system. Both of the latter two systems used locking front and rear diff's. The soldier in the video just simply had it in 2WD. BTW-88M10 (truck driver and heavy transportation specialist)
@etherialcruiser yeah... its deffinitly the driver, he should have straightened his wheels and backed out. then got a run at it, with snow you need momentum. I dunno what was going on with the front wheels myself. it could have just been a busted humvee from a military auction.
This is a tire issue, the jeep seems to have all seasons on and the hummer has a mud tire. I have an F150 4wd with 4 snows and have gone through fields with snow over my front bumper without issue.

Rule nr. 1 when you get stuck in snow - if you really want to move from the place, the front wheels shall be STRAIGHT. Btw, Hummer seems to be a piece of shit if it gets stuck in 40 cm of snow :)
worras2007 6 months ago
that front diff lock is sweeet
chinchillawrangler 6 months ago
@chinchillawrangler
The differentials don't have lockers, they are completely open, the only thing the driver can do is slightly apply the brakes to trick the differentials into transfering power, which by the way actually will work on any open differential vehicle.
wildbill23c 1 month ago
They weren't stuck, they just ran out of petrol :)

"RAW" video?? Of some cars on snowy streets? That term is waaay overused. As far as I'm concerend, a "raw video" should be of perhaps a major crash, or a bank robbery and shootout, or lightning striking a sports crowd watching the match.... but cars on a snowy road??
Kauwhaka 6 months ago
@Kauwhaka "raw" video means "unedited", as in "uncut" or "no special effect", no matter the content of the images.

lol, in Canada we get twice this in a night, and i go out in my 2wd ranger to play in it. lol

Attention...a hummer is having trouble and so is a jeep. Do NOT attempt to leave your home until the roads have been scraped! That was deep snow. My parents have a cherokee. They havent been pulled out yet.....so you know this snow is bad.

hamer is 4x4 right? so wtf?
jezus22 8 months ago
military HMMWV's are full time 4WD there's no 2WD mode on them. There's H, HL, Neutral, and Low range. Normally you drive in H which leaves the center differential unlocked. Shifting to HL locks the center differential. There are technically no locking differentials in the front and rear of the military HMMWV's, you can trick them by using slight pressure on the brake pedal to help transfer power though.
wildbill23c 8 months ago 8
@wildbill23c and thats why jeep was the standerd for so long all 4 all locked all times no fancy computers giting in the way
dondondonman 1 month ago
@dondondonman
I'd rather turn hubs and pull levers than rely on electronics.
wildbill23c 1 month ago
@wildbill23c dam right if 2-3 mpg ant a big deat you you leav the hubs locked and put the frount in N
dondondonman 1 month ago
@dondondonman
Sorry I'll stick to the old 4WD system.
wildbill23c 1 month ago
@dondondonman
I loved my jeep cherokee, but even its front axle engagement system was vacuum controlled, never had a problem with it, but it's something to think about when buying a jeep.
wildbill23c 1 month ago
@wildbill23c actually not all dana 30's have the vacuum disconnect..mine doesnt..the ones that dont have the disconnect are called live axles. the ones with the disconnect are mainly for increased fuel economy..but when your building a hardcore offroad vehicle..its better to go live axle..less parts to fail. and its much easier to swap out the axle shaft on that side..on and off the trail. :) i love my cherokee too!
yz400fk1 1 month ago
@dondondonman
Nothing.
wildbill23c 1 month ago
@wildbill23c ya but im saying that jeep did and it worked in wwI and wwII doge even made some nice army 4x4s but i think the hummer isint any good too bulky under powerd and limided slip it needs a 7.3 international harvester turbo and full time lockers Front and Back the motor would cost less than the chevy crap motor thay use and would lasr longer

@etherialcruiser Looks like they made it through to me.

wtf? hummers dont get stuck in anything. the driver must have his head up his ass.
TR86 9 months ago
hm well considering the Army puts people behind the wheels of the vehicles that don't even have a drivers license, much less be behind the wheel of a vehicle before they join the military I can see why that got stuck.
SilentRaeth1 9 months ago
@SilentRaeth1 Actually no. I'm in the army and my MOS is an 88M Motor Transport Operator. You can not choose this MOS unless you already have a valid drivers license. If you loose your civilian licence all military vehicle licensing are suspended until you get a civilian license. As far as this Sergeant goes, he doesn't know how to drive an M998.
BornInTheCreek 8 months ago
@BornInTheCreek Well someone messed up here in Arkansas because my roommate didn't have licenses before he went into the military and claims he talked his way into it. He hadn't been behind the wheel of a vehicle before and when he went to drill one weekend and they made him drive. He didn't know when the vehicle was in Drive it will move forward. I have no idea how he get got into 88M but I know for fact he is. They made him get his license's a few weeks ago before he went to A.I.T.
SilentRaeth1 8 months ago
@SilentRaeth1 was this kid split op? went to basic, came home and then went to ait later?
BornInTheCreek 8 months ago
@BornInTheCreek Went to boot, failed at driving a truck said he couldn't drive straight. Hit every training IED they had on a trying course. Goes to college for 8months, not to mention gets dropped from ROTC bc he was to lazy to go to PT. Got Fat. Says he'll be a general, even without going to an Academy. Few weeks before semester ends he's made to get civilian licenses. Then goes to AIT, which I believe he's at now.
SilentRaeth1 8 months ago
Seems they both forgot the #1 tool for getting unstuck - a shovel!
Agreed about the Hummer - centre dif definitely not locked!
GordonWG1 9 months ago
look closely at the hummer the front tires where turned onto the snow if he put them straight i would not have any prob getting out
joeykim087383 9 months ago
no diff lock?
powerstroke365 9 months ago
@etherialcruiser Actually correction. There's 3 different types of 4WD platforms the HHMV uses. The early models used the system you described above, but later models, say the late 80's to early 90's use a electronically selectable 4WD, and also they used a full time AWD system. Both of the latter two systems used locking front and rear diff's. The soldier in the video just simply had it in 2WD. BTW-88M10 (truck driver and heavy transportation specialist)
toyoracing89 10 months ago
@etherialcruiser and those didn't look like winter tires to me.
halflife103 10 months ago
@etherialcruiser yeah... its deffinitly the driver, he should have straightened his wheels and backed out. then got a run at it, with snow you need momentum. I dunno what was going on with the front wheels myself. it could have just been a busted humvee from a military auction.
halflife103 10 months ago
This is a tire issue, the jeep seems to have all seasons on and the hummer has a mud tire. I have an F150 4wd with 4 snows and have gone through fields with snow over my front bumper without issue.

So why..
Is the dude delivering NEWSPAPERS in a military truck ?
Even if it is an Ex military vehicle one would not expect a news paper man to be able to afford a behemoth such as that..
Thats it i am quitting my current job, becoming a paper boy and in no time will own an Air Craft Carrier of my own XD
