Nice video and great sound... I am not sure about the body language of the flutist (too much movement and expression) In Japanese arts such as music you only move when when required but at the same time you don't want to be overly expressive with body movement... I do realize that the flutist is Westerner therefore he may not be as familiar with all the etiquette...
Well.. John Neptune has been living in Japan since early 70's I believe. He is holding Shihan rank in a very traditional Tozan school and I think he is very familiar with all the etiquette. However, this is just his stage performance style...
You're very right, it is just perhaps his stage style and he plays exquisitely. Independently of whether he holds a high rank in a Tozan branch my observation stands.
I am not sure but I think you might have been agreeing w/my comment from a month ago... and it really doesn't matter, I guess I am too damn picky to pick on things that are really not important. He plays very nicely, and as the other person said, "it is just his stage style". The only reason this surfaced is because my Sensei is quite on the strict side and she's always on our case for being mindful of our body posture during performances so this was on mind at the time.
