Very interesting and informative vid girls, living in the UK I know how hard it is to get any money out of our government under the present financial circumstances, so I wish you well in your endeavour for a well deserved local news station...All the best from Brighton.
Young ladies, you did a great job with your report. I've worked for a broadcast news station in the United States for the last 15 years and I can personally attest that local news is VERYimportant and rewarding to the community and is an important public service. I hope you get your local TV broadcast very soon (if you haven't already.) And PLEASE keep us updated. Best of wishes!
Thank you girls for a very good video report. Now I have another one for you or your friends - educate @VivienneUK1234 below and others to show how nice and civilised you Saints are! How you greet each other with a wave in the street - how you smile so easily - how you are so hospitable to strangers. In short, how British you are in the best possible way.
My stay in your lovely island was too short while sailing the South Atlantic. I would love to return.
Girls, I would like to give you a BIIIG thank you all the way from California. This video was very well made and extremely insightful! I want to come to this island now! I hope you get your TV station!
Dont be foolish.Tristao da Cunha was a Portuguese navigator. This island including StHelena was discovered by us Portuguese. portuguese in the past discovered many places but Portugal did not have enough people to go to those places to colonize.
What is it like to live there? How much would an average detached house cost? Can you buy a car there? Is it safe? Are there police? Courts? Are there much leisure activities to do. Can you easily swim in the sea? Is the sea hot? Is the tax system the same as UK? I hope some one will get back to me. Thanks
Hi, I am curious about the life on this Island. Are there garages to buy cars? How much would an average detached house cost to buy? Is the tax the same as the UK? Is there internet? Are there much leisure activities? Is there medical care available which is of good standard? Is it safe out there for a young woman to live alone? Is there police out there? Court? I hope some one will assist me.
I lived on the island for a few years back in late 80's early 90's when i was a young boy. they did not have tv back then just vcrs so populor culture was shaped by the american films out at the time ie grease etc etc. it is a lovely island and i would consider returning one day when they get the airport sorted. I had many adventures lots of swimming off the quay in jamestown going to the mule yard for the saturday night hop and chassing the crumpet.
I went back - and took my children - last year, because I wanted them to see it before the airport changes it beyond recognition. sadly, it was already very changed because of depopulation and the desponency caused by the stall on the airport. I imagine the mood's very different now! Good luck getting back there.
i'm not from there - just visited. visitors have a very different view but while saints love their home, they're clearly very frustrated about their economy and their complete dependence on the will of the UK government, which is trying to help them but constrained by the bank collapse etc.
the accents do indeed provoke comment and you're right about the reasons - but the lad in your video who sounds australian is, actually, australian... or has lived in australia most of his life, anyway. his (british) father is the government financial secretary. he'd have been one of the few people willing to talk!
I visited google maps today and found St Helena and amazed how isolated this little island is.
