  • The E- Laser is best used for bosses only. If you use it best to use double during the stage and laser for the boss. The best is the Spread Gun

  • This is way overpowered laser.

  • I love the energy laser in Gradius V better than in the previous versions. Even though it is ineffective against certain Bacterion units (such as those annoying eye-beasts in Stage 1), it's just as fatal as a fully charged Mega W. Cannon as seen in R-Type: Final because if used skillfully, timed perfectly, and aimed carefully, it will instantly dismantle any Bigcore which stands in a pilot's way on a single shot! I've done it a few times when in a pinch myself to know.

  • thats right ...BE ELITE

  • Yeah Gradius was a classic.

    Enjoyed all its iterations much.

This is Konami's home ground -- shmups.

Some of the best shmups ever made were made by Konami or developers associated with them. Like Tresure with its Radiant Silvergun.

  • Now that is a weapon perfect for any Gradius V speedrun!

  • E-Laser was my favorite weapon. There's just something fascinating with killing bosses in one or two volleys ^^

Too bad it doesn't act as a force field here like it does on Gradius 3. Would probably help on stage 4 and 6.

  • One hit-kills FTW!

  • I LOVE Gradius in all its forms! E Laser especially because it's so ridiculously overpowered, even in Gradius III. You're right though, it's not always the best choice for particular situations, especially those calling for continuous laser pulses which then require button mashing.

    I wish I had this game. :(

  • go to iso hunt unless you have a vuse or utorrent software,

    search for this game.

PS2 Shoot em Ups Games Collection 16in1

burn it with any cd burner program

enjoy the game unless you have a converted ps2 with a modchip ( that plays pirated games.

  • God I love these kind of games... it's ultra intense and sometimes you wonder how yousurvive in such a crampy space!

As far I can recall, Pulstar on the neo geo is pretty intense in the mid 90's

  • How did you get the weapon edit?

  • Beat the first loop of the game, on any mode, on any difficulty. There's no restriction on continues, and after 7 hours, you get free play.

Immediately after beating the first loop of the game, you'll get the weapon edit option.

  • lol E-Laser makes things so much easier when facing bosses....

Too bad its not really good for the stages.

  • It's just fine for bosses. You have to develop a rhythm for it. It's a slow tap lasting about half a second between taps. That will charge the e-laser enough to go through a couple of popcorn enemies.

For any of the parts that require serious rapidity, use double. (First stage, cell wall, and green goo)

  • Yup... I hear that...

  • OMG Fraxy!!! ._.

  • No, I haven't made any Fraxy videos. I don't plan on doing so either.

However, when it comes to doujin shmups, I might do a run for Ether Vapor.

Also, I'm considering doing some runs for Cave STGs, notably Mushihimesama.

  • I ALWAYS have used e-laser.

First game i think was grad III

    LOVE!

  • E-Laser sucks on the normal levels, but it sodimizes bosses like that! I personaly use the regular lazer- type 2 option combo, but that is awsome!

  • E-laser gets you past anything that would normaly slow down a more advance player. The levels have always beeen incredibly easy.

  • Well, it really helps in stage 5 :D

  • Well, guys, this was a loop 1 boss rush :)

E-laser is awesome for the first loop, not so awesome for every loop from there on. Tailgun is how I get through the cell wall and the green stuff.

I get through the regular levels using a half-second charging cycle with the e-laser.

For loop 2 and on, I use regular laser, and directional options. Of course, I always keep the cluster bombs... but yeah, it's a different game on higher loops.

  • Gradius V is the best Shoot´em up game all over the world and respect!!!

  • Every single boss, obliterated... OBLITERATED...! I love the part with the four-tentacled boss (from the stage 2 boss rush), it's like... "Destroy the (BOOM!!) ...core." Perfect timing.

  • Gradius V is hard man. I have it right now but I'm currently waiting on my ps2 to be repaired. I finally track down Gradius V and lo and behold my ps2 stops playing blue disc games.

  • this game is the coolest shmup you can get. ikaruga is also decent so check that out

  • I'd make an Ikaruga video... but who freaking hasn't?

I'm not gonna kid myself, I'm just gonna stay away from that credit-eating game.

I mean, I'm all for strategy, but too much is too much.

  • Yeah, i know what you mean. It takes the actual fun out of playing a game, too much for me, i eventually beat it and then it went into its case with the rest of my shmups. Also the way you mention the fact its pointless to do an Ikaruga vid, once you've seen that guy controling 2 ships on hard and gets s++ rank, who can beat that? anyway thanks for the vid

  • One step ahead of you. I already own Ikaruga ... I actually make it a hobby of mine to own rare shmups or just shmups in general. I recently acquired Einhander but unfortunately I think it may be a bum disc ... have to go to my video game shop and have it resurfaced.
