I liked the shooting sticks but ,am definately intrested in the cammo pattern on your rifle. Can you give us some more information on the pattern, and rifle caliber?? Keep the videos commin.......
Your ideas are good, but I wonder how noisy those sticks would prove to be as they rubbed together and rattled around when the hunter was hand-carrying them in the back country. I'd want to soundproof mine with a bit of pipe insulation. Also, I bet the price of those fancy carabiners sure drove the cost of your sticks well above the $4 you calculated.
I also am very budget minded when it comes to hunting and shooting accessories for the reason that it allows me to spend a little more on the Firearms and bows.
I had a plan in mind when on how to make my own, but thought I would check to see how others were doing it. You made yours pretty well EXACTLY how I had it in mind. No need to look any further.
Dunno how long the tubing would hold up in mixed temperature ranges and all, but.....
You could use the same method of making a paracord bracelet and make a strap to go across the two. Added benefit - you'd have a few feet of paracord if you needed it.
I did the same thing a few years ago. Bought same stakes, but instead of a cotter pin I tightly wrapped a few turns of string around the two stakes. Spreading the stakes tightens the string. You can slide the string up or down to change the intersection point on the fly so they can work from a standing, kneeling, or sitting position. I also put a small rubber grommet 2 inches up from the bottom ends of the stakes for bumpers so the sticks didn't bang together and make noise.
@bowhunter4e dude thanks for this vid i just made a set of these, cost me about 7 bucks at my lowes though. luckily i got a pack of 2 carter pins so i actually got to make 2 sets, since i cut them down short for sitting down while coyote hunting, so it gave me just enough room to make 2 sets and they both work amazing, and u cant beat them, ill never pay 30 bucks for a pair. thanks again.
@MrBob6939 nope....99 cents buy one get one at the local hardware store...you don't have to use those, you can use hockey stick tape too...whatever is your preference
i maid a pair out long dowels 4 woodchuck hunting and i made a aluminum gajet at the bottom with a nothch taken out of it so it fin in my beltbuckle so i was walking and a woddchuck poped up and i didnt have time 2 set up id rest it on my buckle and i could stand and shoot useing the rest
Another thing you could do to join the sticks is to get tubing that will go over both of the sticks, and it works as good as the pin, and you wont take the chance of splitting the stick.
Good idea. I am thinking of converting my snow shoe trekking poles into shooting sticks, since I already have them. I will just have to buy some camo duck tape, for sound insulation and to make them less visible. Same setup, I just need to figure out if I want to hold them together with my hands, the wrist straps or some other way. Need to find a "field quick" way of holding them together.
@shawnbebout so many different options...if you take a trip to a hardware store, you'll be filled with ideas. Most of my DIY stuff is just that...walkin around a sporting goods store and saying "i could totally make that"...the trick is figuring out how. Let me know how you end up.
Well well well yep Good $4.00 you say i think i just mite do that one day. Still think your wasting hunt you will get a big thrill with your bow !!!! No seriously have fun any hunt that ends with a really good clean shoot is a good hunt.
@nockbuster777 I really wanted to go with a bow, but i've never hunted bear before, I don't know how i'm going to react...it was a really hard decision to make, but i opted to go with my rifle the first time...it may sound like a cop-out, but i want to find out how i am going to act with a bear in front of me...next time will be with a bow though
@bowhunter4e Sweet yeah bears from the ground with a bow would be pretty nerve racking, especially your first time. I think it would be cool to go bear hunting. Well dont have to much fun on your bear hunt. Keep making good videos!
For the record I love your vid's. I sub'd a couple days ago and watched all of them back to back. I do have an archery question for you. I'm getting back into it and found what seems to be a good bow it's the Martin Jag take down. Is there a rest you'd recommend for a recurve that might let me use the FOB's? If not what's a decent rest for a setup like that? Thank you for any help you can give me, take care from Texas.
Awesome job man. I actually work at lowes so I'll be able to make these a little cheaper haha, great thinking , real useful.

I also left off the tubing you used at the top and just rested my gun in the V between the stakes.

you can get those grips off the carabiners easier by shooting compressed air underneath them, thats how we get bike handle grips on and off easier.
