  • as an american jewish high school student this band has been a huge part of my education. LOVE!!!

  • Love this song also Giddi Gov is awesome

  • greatest guitar solo by a nonamerican EVER!

  • @yomama69ist You've clearly never heard of the bands The Who, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cream, Black Sabbath, or The Rolling Stones.

  • @MajorJakobs or at least you've never listened to their cooler songs.

  • @MajorJakobs ok well you got me i meant like by someone an american wouldnt have heard of before

  • Brilliant, wonderful Israel

  • like the beatels without the drugs. love 'em :)

  • @deeewberry14 the beatles were the most time also without drugs, but the beatles were more popular ;D !

  • After the first time through the Chorus, at the end he says 'Lo lo hozrim.' Am I hearing that right? ''Hebrew Songs' '' website transliterates it as that Gidi is singing

''Atem lo yodim.'' But he never does. Nonetheless, they've helped me tremendously. I've nearly memorized the whole song. Cool.

  • @Robbi165 he said "hem lo ozrim" and it means "they are not helping" :)

  • Sounds a lot like Focus.

Incidentally, the 12 string is a Burns Double Six - most famously used by The Searchers.

  • M'shaneh makom, m'shaneh mazal! Woooo hooooo!

  • musically may be their best 1

  • @6abed1984 luvit

  • @6abed1984 Palestine, really? what have this guys to do with that? they´re israelis, therefore they surely have killed palestinians, right? people you are insane.

  • @6abed1984 If you're not here to enjoy the music then fuck off and get a job.

  • This band was bigger than the Beatles in the Holy Land, EVERYBODY was into it. Babuskas, taxi drivers, every one. It was just remakable.

  • Ah, this is more like it

  • Ga-DOL

  • I saw them at the Rachel in Afridar Ashkelon way back in the summer of 1974

  • Holy shit, I was at the very same show!!!

  • Wow its a small world

  • Does anybody have video of the original dance done to this back in the 70s when it was probably the greatest hit in the history of Israel?

  • Saw Poogy in 1974 in Tel Aviv. What ever happened to them ? ? ? They were awesome ! ! !

  • they brock-up in 1976, everyone of them make great solo careeries

  • best song ever

  • AWESOME!

  • excelente!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No doubt- Kaveret is the goddest israeli bend ever!!!

  • This song is dedicated to Sandy Gladstone from our high school years in Tichon Kanot ( Agricultural H.S) !

LOL ;-) SANDY, YOU LOOKED JUST LIKE THE SINGER < MY FRIEND!!

    Your friend forever Avner!

  • Great song!

  • 4th verse:

My cousin wanted to swim, in order to float properly

He learned swimming by correspondence course from a recognised lifeguard

When at last he entered the sea, within 2 seconds he disappeared

Two jumped in after him immediately,

    [**Danger, horrible pun coming up**]

"The two sank because of the one."

OK, that last needs explanation. The saying is "Tovim shnaim min ha'echad" (Two are better than one, Eccles. 4:9), but he said "Tova'im" (they sank) rather than "Tovim" (they are better).

  • Third verse:

I had an uncle, he was such an idler, he was too lazy to rest

He would "Go to the ant" [Prov. 6:6], and return without satisfaction

Were he only less of a fool, he certainly would know there was

Also an addition to the proverb, "Consider her ways and be wise".

  • Comment removed

  • @sha1om its "i had a (male) cousin"

  • @sha1om ....and return without a "mood" (with a lousy one indeed)

Consider her ways and "wisen up!"

That is slightly more in line with the original.

  • Second verse:

My brother collected stamps, therefore he worked in the post office

He sorted the letters, he even received a certificate for this

One day they realised, he also was collecting letters

From the job he was immediately fired, because

    [warning, horrible pun ahead]

"There is an end to every ``davar''."

["Davar" can be translated "thing" or "mailman" depending on if you spell it with a Bet or a Vov. the saying is originally "To all things there is an end"]

  • First verse:

I received a punishment slightly harsh, they condemned me to death

They sat me on electric chair, separated me from the Private

Would that it were possible at least, to exchange with him the chairs

Because they say as a general rule, [this is an old Hebrew saying] "A change of location, a change of luck."

    Chorus:

Hey yo-ya, I ask you [pl.]

    Hey yo-ya, you answer

    Hey yo-ya, is this fair?

Hey yo-ya, you do not know.

  • ahg. biggest crush EVER on the lead singer. not quite sure why, but hes sexy.

  • you mean Giddi Gov

  • can anyone provide translated lyrics?

  • Lead Sing has 12 string electric.

  • the lyrics are great and the guitar is great too, awesome song in all

  • I dunno. I always found the lyrics to be completely meaningless. Great tune though.

  • i need the chords/tabs for this song!

  • Lots of YJers posting here. Nice! I was on YC 04-05. I'm going to be a Madrich at TY this summer. :D

  • everyone who ever went to jewish camp learned that dance.

  • well, i dont go 2 Jewish camp, i go to a Jewish school, so we learned it there. but yh, every1 hu went 2 any Jewish camp knos it.

  • My first day on kibbutz Lahavot Haviva,in 1975, there was a trip to see a concert at Gan Shmuel and it was Kaveret! Great band! Great memories! Great times! Saw them again in NYC late 80's-early 90's.

  • i love it i had to dance it for my school talent show it was great then i loved the song

  • haha, im in my teens in north america and this brings back some of the best memories in my life so far!

  • Such a wave comes over me when hearing this! As a member of Young Judaea '74-'79, this song was special in my turbulent and questioning childhood. Post-YK war, rallies at the UN (the Z=R bill), summer camp at Tel Yehudah, chaotic home life, folk dancing in NYC (and riding the NYC subways at 14!), adrift in ideas without my feet on the ground...such is childhood...

...shavuah tov from another wandering Jew!

  • Hey I'm a young judaean!! and i just got elected as mazkir of west!!

    chag sameach

  • Tel Yehuda summer of '77 here. I still have the song book (shiron). Great memories. I am now 48 years old and a happy baal tshuvah.

  • I have mine somewhere too. We must have been there at the same time. I'm 47. L'hitraot!

this is the most awsome band ever :D

  • Great Israeli rock! These guys really cooked in the 1970s.

  • They're so tight...and the guitars are kicking out some serious TONE!

  • This is a song about OXYMORONISM TO THE MAX!

  • No way.. I am so glad to have found you.

Thanx for posting the best of the best ever..!

  • Almost like Roger Waters ; )

  • I'm 17 again. Where can I find the steps to this, it beats the Hustle any day. They all ages well, saw them in Hayarkon in 84.

  • i saw it in 07 it changed alott

  • i dont know where you can find them but i could try to explain them to you...

  • i went there consert they rock

  • tää on ihan miäletön!!

  • i love this song!!!

  • Great! These documents are very rare. Gidi Gov was not known as a guitar player.

Good to see Kaveret performance from the original period.

A lot of such historical documents are forgotten in dusted archives in Romema caves. Channel 24 should make one more effort to repair the synchronization. Anyone can do it with a video editor.

  • The synchronization problems are due to YouTube and not the original video. It is great to have this great performance available in any form.

  • Kaveret kicks ass!
