  • i have the problem that my speakers are huge red old skool 12" kams with no holes in the bottom whats best, should i elevate them or simply buy2 more speakers with poles and use all 4 instead of 2 on the floor??

  • tip+velcro cable ties on all leads+power leads.

tip+road cases, yes for your lighting too.

tip+ alot of black cloth covers to hide any road cases/leads/drummers heads.

tip+good gig vehicle road worthy,%90 tax write off.in aussie land.

    %100 if not used privately.

register your act as a buisness,All the gear u buy is tax write off.

    Have buisness cards,mobile phone

Watch other acts, and watch for the good they do,not the bad.

And remember when watching other acts,we can all have a bad day.

  • oi,hey guys,guitar/singer/duo here australia,we use 4 x msr400 ,1 x msr 800 sub all self powered yamaha speakers, these speakers go hard all night, good quality, great sound,i have used these outdoor to hundreds of people,or just a single msr400 at smaller shows,And i have run the whole pa with lighting from a single power point,no problems either.I use mac lap top to run mp3backing trax,no buzz thru pa with the mac,see my vids anyways, and ellaskins good work on the vids dude, well done keep it goin

  • The tip Jonothan gave reagarding both speakers on poles is not usually a good idea, as you do lose some bass . A better solution i have found is 1 speaker on a stand and the other on the floor, bass is increased & better sound. I usually place a lighting tripod directly behind the speaker on the floor & this helps give a more balanced look & serves as a demarcation point for the overall setup. If there are a greater number of people attending then you may need to place both speakers on poles.

  • ELLASKINS U R THE MAN!

  • tip: i run a equalizer with my mixer to help cleanup the sound.

  • i have 2 15" but the have no pole mount holes on the bottoms, what do you recomend i do to elevate the speakers for better sound

  • You will get more bass referb and fuller sound by putting your speakers on the floor. Sound will be up high enough anywhere past 15 ft from the speaker.

  • Are 2 qsc k12s good for a starting dj? For small-medium size gigs ?

  • TIP: To stop a grong noise Frome your laptop (PC) you need to get an adappter thats takes the ground out of your plug. all grond noise should go away?

  • thank you ellaskins for all your hard work. YOu helped me become a mobile DJ with your advice.

  • Hi you look like you know what your talking about so i have a question. I have a 4 Ohm Amplifier and 2 8 Ohm speakers this came as a pack so i thought that they would run smoothly together but every single gig ive gone to the amp seems to cut out and i have to take time plugging in my new one ect and face embarresment. What do you think the problem is and how can i solve it? i thought i may have something to do with the OHM's?

  • @jonnyshaw1989 your problem sounds like your amp has more power than your speakers can handle... i would makw sure that your amp isn't peaking and try to keep the volume at a decent level...

  • i just bought two harbinger pre amped speakers and a xynex 802 mixer and i want to learn how to hook it up to my laptop and get the best sound out of them any advice would help. also ho to\

  • wats better torq or virtual dj? to use @ gigs

  • My biggest tip is to do a recon of the venue before the date you perform,so you know what equipment you require to take etc

  • Hi mate,

i'm buying all mobile disco equipment, but i dont know what wattage to get for a starter DJ?

  • Comment removed

  • hi john.

ive got 2, genexxa gx 206 60Watt Speakers. Im going to start doing afew small gigs soon, like in pubs and and wedding partys, so like over 100 people. will just these 2 speakers be loud enough? if not what do i need and what wattage?

    thanks very much mate!

  • No this will not be enough wattage. Also...wattage is described in several ways...peak, peak to peak and RMS... as well as several different Ohm Values. To really do a good job and sound clear you will need yours to be 8ohms and atleast 250 watts or more peak value for 100 atleast people. You have to be very carefull on this as someone selling 100 watt peak to peak speaker is really selling you a 50watt speaker, but by "fast talking" they are confusing you. Always buy 8ohms peak value listings!!

  • 'u r gay'

please do not say this about someone that knows what he is doing and has taken the time to help people like me and you, i dont know why you are sayin this maybe you are jelous.

if you do not like his videos fine. dont watch them.

do not post silly little comments with incorrect spellings that dont actualy mean anything, you also obviusly do not know what it means.

    thank you

    Dj cowls

  • I have a tip, although is not a vid.(dont' have a vid camera with usb). My tip is mostly for mobile djs who work with powered speakers.

If you are doing a gig outside, no matter what anyone tells you, find some shelter, if it starts raining, then you're good. Otherwise, i strongly recomend getting a hold of some heavy duty trash bags so you can cover the speakers up really fast....

8/23/2008 caught me in Tampa,Fl with no shelter, or bags. Practice-N-Enjoy.

  • Tip :

Lable your plugs, therefore if there is a fault you can clearly identify where the power is coming from.

  • "Label" rather.

  • Sorry my videos were a bit longer than 1 min DJ Mikey Mike

  • no worries dude!!, it's about the quality!! thanks j Agree, you cant give advise on a DMX controler in one min!!

  • No thank you! Dj Mikey Mike

  • @directsound do all dj's have a communitie..cuz i watch both of your videos

  • when i plug my laptop in the pa i get a ground loop 50 hz hum coming through the speakers any tips to stop it

    thanks

  • A Couple of tips for you:

    1) try plugging the laptop power supply into another power socket different to the one the amp or powered speakers are plugged in to . ( I assume the hum only occurs when laptop power supply is plugged in)

    2) there are commercially available ground loop hum eliminters, behringer do one for bout £20 or one thats designed for car stereo installation bout &7.00 from most electronic shops. These sit between the audio output on laptop and the desk.

    Hope this is useful.

  • try un pluging the lap top from the power cable and if you are concernd about the power/ battry running out get an external power pack. j

  • There are 2 ways to connect.

    3.5mm Minijack or USB.

If you have a controller, DJ Mixer, or similar unit, you will have a USB port to connect it with.

  • This is a very simple fix. Just get a 99 cent 3-way plug adapter that eliminates the ground to the wall outlet. Some wall outlets have faulty grounds which will create a hum. I use that adapter on my wall connection and my laptop. I use surge protectors too. Works great.

  • My stereo always did that for some reason. I've been doing that instead of getting an isolator.

  • NO!!! When you "eliminate" the ground in your equipment....YOU BECOME GROUND!!! This may fix (or seem to fix) your problem, but if you have a short in your system, it WILL find the shortest path to ground... which you have eliminated from your system...therefore you're it! THIS WILL KILL YOU QUICKLY!!!! Look at "Hum eliminators" to help with ground loop faults! Trust me... I have a degree in electronics and know of people dying from removing the ground in a system!!

  • @garryentropy

i have the same problem sometimes and what i do is just simply twist the side thats n my laptop

  • what kinds of speakers are these? get back at me tutor.

  • jeeez this guy really takes the fun out of it all

  • TIP: please no cheese music!

  • lol my tip, become a dj, better hours then an audio technican, im doing work experience and goin from 9am to 6pm. djs get it easy. :P, where do i sign up

  • don't play agadoo for any less than 500 squid!!

  • .......and, no matter wot the bribe is > NEVER play the birdie song.......even if there's a gun to your head!!

  • to chazland, lol!!

  • your videos remind me of ali g show lol

  • ...and dont forget to eat at joes! LoL, we should do vids on tips for the club dj too, we could help and learn!

  • j. you must sleep more m8.

  • I've got 1 tip for all Mobile DJs... retire!!! lol it seems to be getting worse people can't afford DJs so much, crowds are getting worse and money is average but then again I could moan about moaning.

  • i have the same speaker stands as you :]

    woop!

  • great TIP:if you havent goten the songs perfectly beat matched yet their pretty close to be. if you dont have the time to make it happend but you need to change the song quick.

Get the beats in line and just use the ' + ' and ' - '

  • 'POSTED IT TO EARLY' just use the + and - buttons untill you faded the other song OUT. it takes one hand on it the whole time but itll do the job.

  • TIP: pay attention at school

  • what is that supposed to mean?

    ...that all DJs are uneducated?

cop urself on man and get a life, we dont want to hear ur badly-timed sarcasm.

  • TIP take plenty of tape! a pair of scissors and a screwdriver always. Tape to fix cables and tape to tape cables down to the floor so people don't trip up! and screwdriver to tighten any loose screws that come up.

  • awesome idea on this vids, THX!!!

  • Good tip! I know people who sitting on my speakers -_-

Is there any diffrens between speaker stands? Does it have to be licht or heavy or something?

  • Can't be stuffed doing a video but it comes down to 2 words.....Rane Serato!

Why play annoying little cd's to help you stay mobile when you can bin all those stupid shiny discs and just take your laptop?

Control all of your music with real vinyl!

My "Rane Serato Scratch Live" is the best toy I ever bought!

  • dude i cant stand when i goto clubs and see a so called DJ, and all they do is drag songs on a dj program and just use the laptop, some programs even do the beatmatching for them, it takes the skill and the whole point away.

  • Im no Dj at all, not yet, but I was to clubs very very often, and Im always quiete enerved when the top-act is late ... well, "late" is okay, but too late is not ok. I dont want to be a wannabe-knowall-guy (strange describt.:P) but I guess its importand to be punctual on your gigs. Once I was in a club, the Dj should come at 1:00, .. he came at 5:00 ... know what I mean ? Greets & nJoy the sun if its shining ;)

  • HI its the saying of DJ TUTOR 'Practice and N Joy!' As for late I always get there way too early just incase theres a problem...

  • Same here which i think is better because at least you got time to panic haha
