yup, that way you can avoid the oponent's shinai and strike kote directly like he shows. But you have to keep mind on that your body must not face to the left, you must keep facing that wich you are cutting
BTW, Are you planning on making a video about putting on the hakama? I have just got my new suit and could use some help with that and I won't be in the dojo until saturday =/
I'd like to know how to put it on correctly before that. Thanks :)
Kendo and other Eastern martial ares seems to share a lot of basics in movement in general. Kendo, Aikido and the rest seems to be a branches of development from some much older martial art.
Note many of Aikido moves require only 1 hand! What does other hand do? Holding sword may be?
It depends on how small the strikes are and how they do their kendo. If people strike men like stabbing, it is called "sashi-men". Not many people use this term anymore. When I was a kid, sashi-men was a shiai technique.
I wrote an article called "Sashi-men" at my website so if you have time please read it.
Kendo is not applicable in street fighting. If an UFC guy comes to me, I will not grab a stick. I run away. Forget about using kendo in street fighting.
Where is this dojo located? I am glad there is a spanish translator i want to go! XD

This is really helpful! Thanks alot!
I have a question about the do strike. Do you twist your shinai when striking do? (thus turning the "sharp" side towards the do)

All tho I don't think that kando could have any application on battle field.. Since samurai did fight mounted anyway. It's a duel martial art.

Thank you for your comment.
What you pointed out about Aikido is interesting. Maybe it is because they had a sword, they use one hand to execute techniques.
Great insight!

I am glad you liked the videos.
At the moment, the video making process is slow but I will be working on it.
Thanks!

I think small kendo is the ugly byproduct of kendo competitions. It closer resembles a stabbing weapon instead of a slashing one.

He is from Guatemala.
This video was taped when I went to Guatemala in 2007. Guatemala Kendo Association kindly invited me there for their further improvement.

I find it very interresting to watch...
Because a friend I know, well anctually I dont know here that good, her parent have aor had a dojo, but the family claimed it...
She had alot of bruises... because they had to do duels without padding...
I had never heard about kendo before so I stubled across you youtube movie, its been very helpful in understanding kendo ;D
