  • what is "This" song's name...

  • If Philip Glass's score were to be removed, this movie would be nothing.

  • MUSIC IS CREEPY but nice!

  • Philip Glass is the man

  • the film isnt exact to clive barkers original story.first the candyman is yellow in his book and in london.but that is just knitpicking on my part.great adaptation though.

  • This film used to scare this shit out of me, this part, the introduction to the film was creepy as fuck. 16 years later, I bought it on dvd :P Sweet.

  • The only reason why this movie scares the shit out of me is because I live in Chicago and unknowingly walked through Cabrini Green once as a teenager back before they tore them all down. A week later I saw this movie on cable and recognized the place, did a little research online, and realized just how fucked up this area was, and just how much danger I put myself in. The eerie music and knowing exactly where some of these camera angles shoot from gives me the chills.

  • @requiemoftruth After reading your comment, I googled cabrini green. The history is shocking!! What happened to Girl X! I never realised that Cabrini Green was a real place, or that there was any relevance to real-life stuff in this.

  • @666serialkiller666 Yeah, there's not much to it anymore. Most of the housing projects have been torn down and the land built over with condos, but throughout the late 80s and 90s, this place was one location where cops would not care if you blew stop signs and red lights - people were so afraid of drive-by shootings, stray bullets, and gang activity, no one wanted to stop their car in the area, including the police. It was the perfect place for a movie like this!

  • @requiemoftruth i grew up in the greens at 1157 n. cleveland apt#502.there really was a candy man but he wasnt a ghoul he was a man who sold candy to kids with razor blades in them. he was never caught tho. the scene in the movie where Helen opens a piece of candy with a razor blade in it was a reference to that real talk. CHI-CITY!!

  • Cause of this i knew Philip Glass, awesome soundtrack, great movie, with awesome climax

  • holy shit for this first line ........

  • the music is so epic on so many scales...Freddy, Michael, and Jason only wish they had theme songs this awesome.

  • incredible score

  • I Came For You!!!

  • i was about 9 when i saw this movie. had me terrified for months

  • Around 1995, I saw this movie at midnight on Showtime and the movie scared the living day lights out of me! I was traumatized, I must have been 12 years old. This intro scared the crap out of me that late at night and being alone.

  • I actually said his name 5 times in the mirror after 5 years of watching it hahaha x

  • Timbaland sampled that on Nelly furtado maneater remix feat lil wayne

  • they need to bring Candy Man back to the greens or whats left of it.

  • I was only a kid in the 90s, but, I really enjoy this movie! It just shows, to an extent, that horror movies just aren't what they used to be. Nowadays, its all about gore and nothing else. Horror movies like candyman have gore, but the also have that element of suspense. Now you have a lot of tryhard movies like Valentine (which I thought was one of the most predictable films I've ever seen) but the odd good one comes out now and again. Long live Philip Glass! A true genius! :-)

  • bet no one knew this was sampled by li jon for the song "the blow"

  • we all knew that...

  • @culturelog I knew that one. That's why I was rollin when I first heard Da Blow

  • this is the only good one. CANDYMAN ONE IS THE BEST. THE REST FUCKING BLOW IT. BUT THIS MOVIE ROCKS. HALLOWEEEEEN IS COMINGGGGGGG

  • phillip glass takes it to a whole new level with this theme, as well as, the music through out the entire movie. his work in hamburger hill was great also

  • fav horror flick of all time. fucked me up as a kid

  • Brought me back to days of Bloody Mary

  • @Beatzinsthusiezt Yeah me too. I wouldn't turn the lights off while standing in front of the mirror for years...

  • yeah brings back a lot of memories. i grew up in cabrini green. we had a real candy man that killed kids by puttin razor blades inside penny candy back in the 70's & he never got caught. now thats some scary shit.

  • this is not only my favorite horror film of the 90's, but probably my fave of all-time.. it is just perfect.

Right off the bat when you hear this theme, it has so much tension and causes so much dread, Philip Glass in many ways made this movie with the music.

Than you hear Tony Todd's voice come in, and that just brings the tension to an all-time high.

The direction, the atmosphere, the music.. and the way it comes together.

first movie to actually frighten me.

  • One of the best themes ever to one of the scariest movies ever.

  • hell yea

  • sch a creepy song but is beautiful

  • "eerie intro to the best horror movie of the 90's"

    You're totally right...

  • I love it.

  • to:fuckyouricanbitch

Why are you watching him then? You make no sense.Take that hateful energy somewhere else please.

  • SHE'S A MANEATERRRRRRR.

  • Wait... Maneater doesn't sample this... You got it wrong man. Fo listen to that song and then listen to this. Listen hard.... not the same thing.

Lil Jon's song "Da Blow" samples this though. Check it out. I have an ear for these things man. Maneater doesn't sample this.

  • listen to the lil wayne remix of maneater and it's easier to tell.

  • Oh... you're right. I never heard the that remix before. But yep, it samples this no doubt. I don't think the original Samples it, though.

I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I like it, because I really don't like Lil' Wayne, but it's actually a coo' remix.

  • I think Lil Jon Sampled this! I was trying to remember where the hell I heard that shit from! Its candyman!

  • timbaland sampled it for maneater by nelly furtado.

  • Really? I didn't know that one.

  • it's the lil wayne remix.

  • this so creepy, depressing and beautiful at the same time. my heart breaks everytime i hear this!

  • "They will say that I have shed innocent blood. What's blood for, if not for shedding? With my hook for hand, I'll split you from your groin to your gullet."

    S.S.S.

  • Comment removed

  • gullet, not gut

  • Yeah it's gullet, that was my bad.

    S.S.S.

  • groin to gut would be one small incision

  • lol no, but in Candyman terms yes...

    S.S.S.

  • post

  • man i wish i could DL this song its really good love the sound

  • weirdly enough it is absent from the soundtrack :(

  • I remember when this movie came out I was 12 and I had friends that lived in Cabrini-Green and they would always ask me to come over. After seeing this, they only physically saw me unless they came to see me!!! This movie scared me so much back then, that I never came back to Cabrini-Green until I turned 20

  • Cabrini-Green is the REAL name of that Project building? I thought it was just a made up name! Dam, that shit makes the PJ's in NYC look like the Hamptons! Lolz

  • i watched this movie as a kid. freaked the shit out of me, after leaving the theaters i was afraid to go into the bathroom for a week.

  • Does anyone know the name of this music?

All I know is that it was composed my Phillip Glass.

    x

  • It's not on the soundtrack release "The Music of Candyman" which may make it difficult to find. I would just try searching for "Candyman Opening Credits" or something like that. Shame they didn't put this on there cause this song is fucking awesome.

  • my mum let me watch this flim when i was 8 and i was so terrified of the bathroom

  • lil jon sampled dat song on dat song The Blow

  • I adore this beautiful music. So morbid and depressing, yet so goregous! I love it...

  • after this movie i hated goin to the bathroom

i would piss with the door open lol

  • Classic

  • this theme is terrifying ... it feels like it was the end of the world!!

  • As spooky as it is, this theme is beautiful and very sad and morbid...but in a bad/good way if you know what i mean...

  • Arg, I can't find this song anywhere. Would anyone happen to know the name of it? It isn't on the soundtrack as far as I know.

  • just download the clip off of YT

  • I'm not sure of the song title but it was composed by Philip Glass.

  • The music is EXCELLENT! Philip Glass is a boss!

  • Bernard Rose crafted a poetic and disturbing horror classic. Philip Glass score is haunting and beautiful at the same time. This is one of my favourite movies.

  • I remember seeing this movie when it came out in 92 and it scared the hell out of me and it still does.

  • 2.13 - 2.26 i have to use this as a song intro with my band x

  • This theme is so creepy...Philip Glass is a genuis

  • Clive Barker...Amazing!!!

  • Like the dayum movie wasn't creepy enough they let Candyman himself few umm..."encouraging" words b4 the movie!(lol)But on the real side when I was little living in the projects of Chicago, "Candyman" was the all time horror movie to watch (for me),cuz I was and still am a horror movie fanatic and this movie scarred the hell out of me!!!!!!

  • Dis shit b hittin!

  • By the way,why is this demon called "Candyman"?Is it due to the honey

    of the bees?

  • As revealed in Candyman2, it was a name that a child mockingly called him when he was covered in honey and left to be stung to death by bees.

  • He's not a demon he's a spirit but yeah sonic explained it well all because he loved a white woman....brothers watch your back... anyway the children first called him that then the whole village called him that

  • "I have seen the future of horror fiction.

And it's name is Clive Barker."

    -Stephen King

  • This music is some of the creepiest I have heard in horror films.

  • I drove that right lane on Congress Pkwy. to work every single day from 1996-2002...... this is an incredible deja vu. Love the movie too, a total classic!

  • this movie scared me when i was a kid till now 22, how come they had scary movies in the back days and now scary movies is all comedy

  • Hey! I been there!

  • this movie scared me as a kid and the music still creeps me out.

  • This sample was the shit for the maneater remix, and Da blow

  • best opening

  • I remeber when this came out OMG..92 wooo I was 11. The music had me shuck for weeks...a black man killing people in the projects....I couldnt go to sleep for ever!!! Tramatized my brother from going to the bathroom..he pee'd in the bed many a night scared to death..lol
