@kravann ILL FUCKING KILL YOU LITTLE FUCKER,YOUR PROBABLY LIKE 4 JUST FUCKING TROLLING YOU ASSFUCK ILL FIND YOU AND FUCKING BEAT THE LIVING FUCK OUT OF YOU LITTLE FUCKING FAGGOT
the film isnt exact to clive barkers original story.first the candyman is yellow in his book and in london.but that is just knitpicking on my part.great adaptation though.
The only reason why this movie scares the shit out of me is because I live in Chicago and unknowingly walked through Cabrini Green once as a teenager back before they tore them all down. A week later I saw this movie on cable and recognized the place, did a little research online, and realized just how fucked up this area was, and just how much danger I put myself in. The eerie music and knowing exactly where some of these camera angles shoot from gives me the chills.
@requiemoftruth After reading your comment, I googled cabrini green. The history is shocking!! What happened to Girl X! I never realised that Cabrini Green was a real place, or that there was any relevance to real-life stuff in this.
@666serialkiller666 Yeah, there's not much to it anymore. Most of the housing projects have been torn down and the land built over with condos, but throughout the late 80s and 90s, this place was one location where cops would not care if you blew stop signs and red lights - people were so afraid of drive-by shootings, stray bullets, and gang activity, no one wanted to stop their car in the area, including the police. It was the perfect place for a movie like this!
@requiemoftruth i grew up in the greens at 1157 n. cleveland apt#502.there really was a candy man but he wasnt a ghoul he was a man who sold candy to kids with razor blades in them. he was never caught tho. the scene in the movie where Helen opens a piece of candy with a razor blade in it was a reference to that real talk. CHI-CITY!!
Around 1995, I saw this movie at midnight on Showtime and the movie scared the living day lights out of me! I was traumatized, I must have been 12 years old. This intro scared the crap out of me that late at night and being alone.
I was only a kid in the 90s, but, I really enjoy this movie! It just shows, to an extent, that horror movies just aren't what they used to be. Nowadays, its all about gore and nothing else. Horror movies like candyman have gore, but the also have that element of suspense. Now you have a lot of tryhard movies like Valentine (which I thought was one of the most predictable films I've ever seen) but the odd good one comes out now and again. Long live Philip Glass! A true genius! :-)
phillip glass takes it to a whole new level with this theme, as well as, the music through out the entire movie. his work in hamburger hill was great also
yeah brings back a lot of memories. i grew up in cabrini green. we had a real candy man that killed kids by puttin razor blades inside penny candy back in the 70's & he never got caught. now thats some scary shit.
"They will say that I have shed innocent blood. What's blood for, if not for shedding? With my hook for hand, I'll split you from your groin to your gullet."
I remember when this movie came out I was 12 and I had friends that lived in Cabrini-Green and they would always ask me to come over. After seeing this, they only physically saw me unless they came to see me!!! This movie scared me so much back then, that I never came back to Cabrini-Green until I turned 20
Cabrini-Green is the REAL name of that Project building? I thought it was just a made up name! Dam, that shit makes the PJ's in NYC look like the Hamptons! Lolz
It's not on the soundtrack release "The Music of Candyman" which may make it difficult to find. I would just try searching for "Candyman Opening Credits" or something like that. Shame they didn't put this on there cause this song is fucking awesome.
Bernard Rose crafted a poetic and disturbing horror classic. Philip Glass score is haunting and beautiful at the same time. This is one of my favourite movies.
Like the dayum movie wasn't creepy enough they let Candyman himself few umm..."encouraging" words b4 the movie!(lol)But on the real side when I was little living in the projects of Chicago, "Candyman" was the all time horror movie to watch (for me),cuz I was and still am a horror movie fanatic and this movie scarred the hell out of me!!!!!!
He's not a demon he's a spirit but yeah sonic explained it well all because he loved a white woman....brothers watch your back... anyway the children first called him that then the whole village called him that
I drove that right lane on Congress Pkwy. to work every single day from 1996-2002...... this is an incredible deja vu. Love the movie too, a total classic!

this is not only my favorite horror film of the 90's, but probably my fave of all-time.. it is just perfect.
Right off the bat when you hear this theme, it has so much tension and causes so much dread, Philip Glass in many ways made this movie with the music.
Than you hear Tony Todd's voice come in, and that just brings the tension to an all-time high.
The direction, the atmosphere, the music.. and the way it comes together.
first movie to actually frighten me.

Wait... Maneater doesn't sample this... You got it wrong man. Fo listen to that song and then listen to this. Listen hard.... not the same thing.
Lil Jon's song "Da Blow" samples this though. Check it out. I have an ear for these things man. Maneater doesn't sample this.
enclosedfury 2 years ago 3
listen to the lil wayne remix of maneater and it's easier to tell.
danielle76 2 years ago
Oh... you're right. I never heard the that remix before. But yep, it samples this no doubt. I don't think the original Samples it, though.
I'm a bit ashamed to admit that I like it, because I really don't like Lil' Wayne, but it's actually a coo' remix.
enclosedfury 2 years ago
I think Lil Jon Sampled this! I was trying to remember where the hell I heard that shit from! Its candyman!
