you tube videos not working on my computer glchen ... nothing actually working properly... needs more tweaking, thats why Ive slowed down trying too tweak it ???
For Real Estate web sites we have pull sources and push sources. However we find push less reliable. Have you had trouble and if yes have you found a solution to double check that the push was accepted properly? 2nd Ques. is this google reader friendly?
Comet pushes data in real time from a server to a browser.
Hubbub pushes data in real time from a server to another server.
The two can work together. It could work like this:
A blog (publisher) publishes new updates to a hub server (say, Feedburner). The hub distributes the new content to all subscribers (Google Reader could be a subscriber). Reader pushes the new content to your browser using Comet. (better than the video's example which used AJAX).
I could have the HubBub interaction wrong in the example - so feel free to chime in.
I might be confusing this with my idea - but that's a different sad story. I actually tried to pitch pretty much this same idea five years ago when I used to work at IBM. But since I didn't work at Google, I was totally ignored.
I guess I should be glad. IBM would have tried to patent it and keep others from using it. Google on the other hand is making it useful by publishing the spec and open sourcing it.
I'm afraid this can have as many inefficiencies as the pull protocol. With pull protocol only servers that are interested in 'something new' are asking for it. With push, it will keep notifying all who ever subscribed to it. It can also help spammers to get notified when new article was pushed in the popular blog so they can be the first to add a comment.
Imagine this tech implemented to replace our systemically flawed intelligence systems... Yes, the one that failed to stop 911 and the Christmas bombing attempt... Just imagine and it would become a reality... =D
wondering since years why the net doesn't work that way ;)
With lots of traffic it's something you should use for user interaction (like your example with the realtime feed) from external servers (3rd party extensions like the apps in facebook for example)
Is there a chance to get something like this for youtube as an extension to the normal youtube-api?
Would love to implement a build in youtube sharing method for my community-site but with todays method it would mean bad usage of ressources

can this be implemented in google reader? Or does the site already have to be optimized with PubSubHubbub?

PUBSUBHUBBUB = COMETD service provider
adham2000eg 2 years ago
It's not the same thing as COMET.

Hubbub pushes data in real time from a server to another server.

Cool tech, but solving a non-problem (from an end user POV).

I think this is interesting, but as example of Google Wave: "Don't fix what's not broken."
Still i would like to see it in action.
