@miramar9999 Please don't be so ignorant. The Marines are nowhere near at fault for anything. The Navy sold Miramar to the city of San Diego to be used as a civilian airport then from there it was used by the Air Force as a training base, then by NASA as a launch site. What was so great about the F-14 anyways? Secretary of the Navy John Lehman said that the F-14 had "probably the worst engine/airframe mismatch we have had in years" and that the TF30 was "a terrible engine." F-18 FTW

@8erdude that's what it looks like as a plane approaches supersonic speed. I can't quite remember the physics behind it (shame on me). But, I think that it is caused by a low pressure zone around the plane, as the plane approaches supersonic, the air is pushed away from the aircraft very quickly, creating this circular cloud appearance. Then as the air quickly goes back together it "claps" just like thunder.

@8erdude yeah too bad the US banned supersonic flight inside the states. The only place you can go supersonic in the US is at military bases. That's why I want to make a plane that goes supersonic but doesn't make a loud sonic boom. Without a plane that can do that the aviation industry will not advance. It's really kind of sad.

Memories, I was stationed in MCRDSD, Marine Corps Recruit Depo and saw one of the air shows at MCAS in the early 2000s. Just to clarify ,MCAS stands for Marine Corps Air station not Naval air station.

Its called a "Sneak Pass" in reference to "That was the one that was it". Both the Angels and the Thunderbirds do it. Only the Thunderbirds are louder by quite a margin. 155dB for the F-16 in full A/B vs about 148dB for the F/A-18 in full A/B. And since decibels aren't linear that equates to a large difference in percieved sound.

Nice. The Air Show in Indiana got cancelled that day because it was raining, and clouds were to low. It would have been my first. And im 14. I love planes so much. I wanted to be in the Air Force for a while but not anymore. Have you ever been to the National Air Force Museam in Ohio?
