  • This is boring shit! I love(d) Hawkwind but this sucks!!!!

  • kiddis shut up

  • Not quite the same without Stacia's "up front" performance !

  • @allcik - I agree, Rons vocals are terrible.

  • I have the 2 CD set that is basically the soundtrack of this vid; It sounds WAY better than this crappy Youtube vid. I originally bought this on VHS, and had to return it because it was defective. Took years to find it again, this time on DVD. The sound quality is much better than what you see here.

  • I really miss the electronic intro.Beside this fact, this version is good, not the better than the 72 version, but still good.

  • All the die hards may thing think it Dave Brock whos Hawkwind. And he is. He took them all these years through thick and thin. But is still the Bob Calvert years that give me the fondest momemts. You cant beat Bob. He was the best.

  • @NuitLux I fully agree - the real Hawkwind at Liverpool.

  • this is awful, sorry hawkwind but this is what i would expect from a shit band

  • it's not even me!!

  • I saw Hawkwind in the late 70s somewhere in Chelmsford - no Lemmy then

  • @mascha47 Lemmy was 71-75 if I remember correctly

  • This is NOT Lemmy..

  • @CountRaven1959 lemmy was fired from Hawkwind in 75, he then formed Motörhead, he's no longer assiociated with Hawkwind

  • @BigDaveNeg : I know that......

  • @supercarXXX Hawkwind started in 1970, I'm pretty sure the first Ramones rehersal was 1975.

  • i loved Hawkwind, seeing this tribute band is deeply saddening. the schism leaves us all dissatisfied. Like Mark Smith says, if its me and your granny on bongoes, its the fall. Ron Trees Calvert impression makes you wonder if he has a personallity of his own

  • I'm right with you on this, skree. I loved 'em too in the Space Ritual days. That was the magic line-up. This is just an embarrassment.

  • I've got a washing machine too, whats so special about that? btw the guitar on this vid is way too weedy and limp...turn it up man!

  • it's not lemmy....it's not right

  • yeah yer right ...and Simon King was my fav drummer even though Terry was brilliant....

  • I've been roped into going to see them in Glasgow in Dec and am dreading it - hoping the Crazy World of Arthur Brown will make up for having to sit thru Hawkwind lol!

I have to admit that this is one of their better songs tho

  • the slower 72 version was MUCH better than this...

  • @shotdonkey I actually prefer this version- it's more manic and high-octane, which is what the song feels like it needs

  • @shotdonkey Really? I kind of prefer this version- it's got a crazier, raved-up feel to it that seems to fit

  • what is this i don't even

  • I can remember playing this on a pub juke box while playing pool way, way back in the early 1980s.

I cant say my opiopn of it has change that much.

Still s it brings back some happy memories I dont mind listening to it every now and then. But prefer there other music.

    Thanks for sharing

  • this nothing to when they play shot down in the night live

  • Sorry, this is crap, I had a lot of respect for them but if this is what they have come to then come on guys get on the pipe & slippers cos' Hawkwind this is not! more like Budgiefart!

  • Don't have a freak out! This is from ages ago... They are back to their best again now...I,m going to see them next week..(9 May) i'll let you know what it was like...

  • this is crap

  • i think its gold

  • LEMMY is the MAN.

This baby voice is.... out of the point...... :(

  • WTF"!"!!!!!!

They should have lemmy as guest on this one, the voice there just sucks.

Well, i wouldn't trade this for mötorhead, but it would have been great if they had Lemmy for this song live

  • just not the original and not as good- sorry.

  • brilliant love it

  • Written by the captain: Robert Calvert

  • I saw Hawkwind play at Essex University in the very early 70's. The supporting group was Nazareth. Oh what a night. I still have the poster somewhere.

  • Comment removed

  • That chord progression is pretty similar to "Lets do the timewarp" from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Similar, but different. I was like "WTF??" at the start.

  • Good catch.

  • first record i ever got still sends shivers down my spine, even at 50!!!!

  • Hi there criptyk, you young pup!

First saw them at an all-nighter in the Eldorado Wrestling/Dance Hall (you're ahead of me there) in Leith, Edinburgh - maybe 1971? and I'm giving you a few years, mate.

Some of their stuff is absolute shite, but other stuff is frankly timeless and still sounds brand new.

    W a y a h e a d o f t h e i r t i m e.

  • i was born in the wrong yr m8,man love hawkwind uraih heap zep lol, mind you just love good music&grew up with dads partys hahaha the lps&bongs out were good safe times & good memorys for me,,blows your mind hawkwind they were ahead of there time a

  • Just found the sleeve notes from doremi fasol latido which has some memorabilia in there.

From an old ticket, the concert was 1972, the all nighter was "9pm to 2am" - but I'm sure there were about 4 or 5 acts and that I bounced in to work straight from the concert - and the tickets were 50p! That's bloody dear, I think I was on £10 a week then as an apprentice.

They were obviously getting more famous as time went on - tickets in July were 60p!!

  • seeing the hawks live aint just another concert - it's an "experience" - one that will live with you forever

  • in het hollands:deze jongens waren samen met andere collega's hun tijd ver vooruit... lekker nr singltje heb ik nog steeds

  • Very nice clip and great music.

As good as the original clip.Great performance.

  • Hey Hawks xx

  • terrific stuff!!!!!!ii wished I had been there. still really amazing show visually and musically. thank you for this fantastic show.

  • im a great fan from the 70s but this is shit bring back calvert- yes i know we carnt. seen them in the 90s its just not the same.

  • First time I have seen/heard this version and it ROCKS - this comes from someone who has followed the Hawks for 37 years - so for all you jonny-come-latelys - listen to the voice of experience!

  • christ i took acid 2 dis yrs ago

  • hey my uncle used to be in hawkwind so dont say they suck plz even though hes not in hawkwind now but ....?

  • Who's your uncle then? A lot of people have been in Hawkwind!!

  • a not so stunning performance is you suffer from seizures

  • Hawkwind needs Lemmy. They have sucked for years.

  • yeah they do and lemmy is awful in motorhead! lets start a campaign...bring back lemmy!!!!!

  • fuck that, lemmy rules in motorhead, he is motorhead!!

  • Not their best ever version, they probably had an off night here. I bet they get sick of playing it!!

  • Fucking shite!...done by a tuneless cover band....if you could call them that!

  • This is a fucking joke.

They are legends but this sounds like a cheap cover by some shitty Seattle kiddy punk band.

    Hawkwind?......Fuck off.

  • Sounds alright. Search Silver Machine live in studio 22 Sydney 2000. You might prefer that version.

  • ni sombra a la version del 72

  • brilliant sound, i'm too young to remember when this first come out but since i first heard it on TOTP 2 i thought to myself, man that's fucking amazing!! i love lemmy and all his music after this with motorhead, he rocks!! this song is all to do about a silver bicycle with a ringing bell, wtf! lol, great posting ty!! :-)

  • okay, but CHROME is much better. Helios Creed rules!

  • Chrome is awesome but I wouldn't say they're much better than Hawkwind

  • lol!... there not Hawkwind rawks!

  • listened to this on a crap battery operated teeny radio in 1972. i was 14. loved it then. love it now. saw them in 1975. awesome. will always be the essence of my chidhood. always.

  • sure elcunto, btw, killer name. lmao when i saw it

  • holy shit this is the best space rock band i ever heard. Pure LSE . Aguante LEMMY

  • nah thats not hugh lloyd langton ..so true apex bozo..

  • hawkwind rule.end of.

  • yeah deffo!

  • Awesome! To think my mother used to trip out on Hawkwind. :XD

  • Hawkwind...pure genius. Who would have thought a song by Bob Calvert about his bike would give us this!!!!

Remember also Motorhead was a Hawkwind song...brilliantly played at the last Astoria gig in tribute to the band of the same name

  • I used to drink with 'Kenny the bassist' from the 80s line up. He had a mullet hair do but a great guy.

  • made the mistake of giving lemmy a bass guitar?

    fuck you

lemmy is amazing and the music of motorhead is pure class if you actually listen to it

    hawkwind rock aswell

    =]

    Luke

  • this isn't actually hawkwind anyways.

  • THis is HAWKWIND alien tour i think you'll find Mid 90's

  • you have not got a clue wot you are talking about did you follow hawkwind and motorhead

i did before you ask so theres your answer trueglowgirl x

  • cool

  • Hard to believe that Motorhead was spawned out of this bunch.

  • PliskinLee: Was there ever a definitive Hawkwind line up? I think who ever turned up on the night with an instrument got to play in the band. I saw them at Hammersmith Odeon in 1977 when they were doing their Quark, Strangeness and Charm tour/album.

  • i think there were one or 2, yeah.

cool you saw that tour; brilliant album.

  • hawkwind are awesome

  • was this at brixton allnighter???

  • Who was the sexy chic in the freaky outfits??

  • Hey man that is cool Lemmy after the henge at the Tor

    Hawkwind owe me...........

  • Lets do the time warp again

  • hakwind were evil witches may they burn in hell

  • Well I totally agree with you dude, because my cock has also dropped off. But unlike you I can get medical help.

  • I miss Stacia.....

  • YOU ROCK RON!!

  • that guy sux. where's lemmy god damnit

  • yup, Lemmy sang it - there's a better video than this on here.

  • hawks

  • pmsl sid visiuos does roadwawks

  • Weak performance?!?!1 This fucking rocks.

  • That sucks without Lemmy. It's a parody of the original.

  • Fuck me what wazzz that.Don't tell me this is what Hawkwind have came down to. !!!!!!.

  • I've always liked this song but it's just not the same without Lemmy singing it. Still good, though.

  • lemmy never sang street machine bob calvert did lemmy wrote and sang the original song motorhead while still with hawkwind and when they split it was agreed that motorhead was lemmy's hence his name

  • Yes, Lemmy did in fact sing 'Silver Machine'.

I quote Mr. Kilmister himself from his autobiography, "White Line Fever."

" 'Silver Machine', our only hit. That was really my only time singing lead, except for "The Watcher', 'Lost Johnny', and 'Motorhead'".

Calvert and Brock wrote it and Bob Calvert sang it live but Lemmy did lead vocals in the studio and that was their hit in 1972.

  • how good are you?A true hawkwind buff too.ok tell me the very first album calvert and brock did.

  • around the time, after IIRC they recorded another version - not the single with Lemmy or the 10th anniversary. Brock sings, plays guitar & overdubs a solo to stand-in for Simon's violin solo. Lemmy is on & Powell, one of the 2 drummers they had then (they added Powell w/ Simon King, who drums solo on the original S.M.) played drums. i think there are some that argue Paul Rudolph played bass, but Lemmy, Nik & Powell were all purged simultaneously. i actually heard this version 1st, in '86!

  • Ron Tree never really did it for me, he wanted to be calvert but was more like Nik Turner

  • This really is a total diservice to a classic song.

    Crap sorry Dave a shambles!

    Cheers Rev TT & COCO

  • I agree. I love Hawkwind, but this is a pretty weak performance...
