  • Looks like Africa

  • Grande!!!! ;)

    Jah serviu de inspiração...

  • i wonder if any third world countries have discovered grunge yet

  • Respect every peculiarity of every culture, culture comes from the history, if I don't know the history I don't know how is developed a culture and I'm not able to judge it, I can just suppose something about it, from my stationary point of view and from my cultural prospectives. this is the cultural relativism

  • What's the name of the song playing at the end of this trailer? samba?

  • @us2dk i would also die to know the song at the end. ill have a good search around, if i find it, ill let you know :)

  • @us2dk hahaha! got it! Antonio Carlos Jocafi - Simbarere

    :D

  • Wow for some of the comments on here. I never comment but, hey, what the hell. Thought I'd give it a shot. I looked up Anderson Sá because he was in a book called Great Peacemakers I read for school. I thought he had one hell of an amazing story and wanted to hear what his music was like. This is a man who sends a message against violence and anger and here people are slinging back these cheap insults... It's just...really saddening.

  • quanta besteira mal explicada, que deve ser ignorada!!!!

  • lol afroreggae e' reggae proveniente de pessoal com origens africanas :x

  • Queria saber qoue é hoje o affroreggae. É uam ONG? tem filiais em outros locais? qual sua contabilidade? alguém sabe dizer? tem no site deles? seria importante saber, não?...

  • My cousin lived in Brazil for a few years and now lives in Boston. She misses Brazil.

  • In a previous response someone wrote that only 350,000 slaves were sent to Brazil. I admit that I don't live in Brazil but in every history book I have read, it was stated that Brazil received 35% to 40% of the slaves sent to the New World (more than the US). It has been estimated that Brazil received 3 million slaves. Changing the subject, I visited Brazil and in some ways I felt more welcomed there than I do living in the US. Maybe if I was in Brazil more than 10 days I'd feel different.

  • @userneedsname Brazil has the largest population of afro-descedentes outside of the entire continent of Africa. Brazil received millions more than the US ever did. It has a city in the NE, Salvador da Bahia, that has a population of 80% blacks.

  • @sista005 I am aware of the history. I have read in numerous articles that only about 6% of the population considers themselves black. Brazil didn't have the racial policy that the US had. In the US, even if one didn't look black because of racial mixing but was a descendent of someone black or African, they were considered black. Brazil didn't follow that policy. I recently went to Brazil and loved it. I'd like to revisit the country and see Salvador, too.

  • what's the song on 1:20 ???

  • can someone post this movie on youtube?

  • as the closing song called?

como a canção de encerramento chamado?

como se llama la cancion del final?

  • @marianovac

    His name is: SIMBALERÊ

  • Such a document I can only cool each try.

Sadly the Anderson Sat Partly as unknown is (especially in Europe and America). Although he has moved so much in his homeland.

Since long seen not as an interesting documentary, unfortunately so what remains in the background because of our market is flooded with Hollywood.

  • My point of view...

    buying drugs, earning money.

Money buy weapons or guns any....

    Weapons, make deaths...

And only talking about music can bring more good results???

  • @TheOjayo Shit happens everywhere. I bet Brazil is a very nice country. Never heard anything bad about it exept of the favelas. It's like as a tourist u dont step into compton or the worst parts of detroit to visit a museum or anything like that lol.

  • Brasil é o cú do cabrito!

  • whats the name of the song that starts playing at 1:15 ?

  • @jr973mack I want to know so bad also.

  • Brazil is just dream, one day Brazil gone Be The Best contry of the World,Brazil is De Beautfull country and i'm Poroud To be Braziliaan

  • Enquanto formos analfabetos em duas línguas é um pouco difícil ter algum orgulho...

  • BOSNIA ,,,,,,, povedite Revoluciju Brazilci ne budite picke...

  • It's about time some more positive imagery came out of Rio, it's not all bad

  • I watched this documentary in my African Diaspora class.......

  • Im Brazilian, and i have been in Rio many times...

now I am living in England, ive been here for 2 years..

anyway, i can tell you that brazil, and rio are the best place ever, in the whole world..

Not just for the beautyness.. but for the people as well.

Rio is one of the most dangerous cities of the world.. people die every minute.. even the cops kill innocent people... so is a fucking dangerous place.. the times i went there, i used to be warned and kept my eyes open!...

    I'm 17 by the way.

  • I live in the District of Columbia USA, I am pround to say I am Brazilian. I fear Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) Violence as well as in the U.S.

My parents always told me, "Tell me who you hang out with, and I will tell you who you are". Your actions will define how dagerous your geografic location is.

By the way I am 25 years old

  • This was an amazing documentary...it brings you to a world you might never even knew existed.....Those two men...Anderson and Junior...are REAL TRUE HEROES....If all people had their mind set we would truly be living in peaceful times...BRAVO TO THOSE BEAUTIFUL BRAZILLIAN MEN AND WOMEN WHO WORK HARD TO IMPROVE THE WORLD AROUND THEM AND MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE!!!!

  • I agree with you honey...I heard about that place some time ago, it's something unbelievable. How sad that there are that kind of places in the world...

  • this guy from the movie is relly good he can change a mind from lil kids who want tobe criminals and i'm 14 and i dream that some day i can do something for my country as that guys from afro reagge did

    (brazillian guy)

  • yeah the corruption is really the "fedding" of traffic

    (brazillian guy)

  • there are things like this happening all over the world we are all just products of our enviroments and we need to all unite to stop corruption not only on a major level but also on minor levels like are police world peace

  • this kind of movies doesnt show the reeality, it shows what the people want to see, if there isnt shots and deaths the movie isnt atractive for nobody, i went to rio in 2005, its a very beatutiful city, and a part of the tour was in the rosinha favela, we were a group of tourists and it doesent happen anything, sorry for my bad english. rio is not a jungle its a very good city like cities of USA for example, there are gangs in LA, NY etc. i dont know if my idea is clear

  • it's clear. they have those same types of movies about the type of neighborhood i grew up in here on the east coast of the U.S. i don't sweat it cuz i know how it really is.

  • im sorry but dont ever compare a U.S city to a latin america city especially rio

  • im sorry but i was tryin to put an example everybodie thinks that latin america its a jungle Rio is one of the most beautiful places ive ever been

  • we need everyone to think that latin america is a jungle i was raised in rio lost two friends coz of the violence and the only way to change that is if everyone knows whats going on down there.

  • there are nice parts nd bad parts in all big cities and your tour logically did not take you to any part of rio were u would be in any danger nd rio is much badda then any america city they are the ones who are hyped over

  • you can see the favelas from everywhere but you know to a guy from another city of south america that doesent mean a danger, maybe from someone from another place i dont know rio its a nice city to me

  • if only america could have corrupt police death squads... one day

  • What's the song at the end of this? Can I get it anywhere?

  • you wish you could, kaeseki.

  • I´m uploading Favela Rising part 1 right now, i will upload the whole doc.

  • This is the best documentary I have ever seen. Period. And I have seen many documentaries.

  • e bem violento

  • America is:

    North America.

South America And Canada included, along with USA.

We are the United States of America.

But we aren't the only country in North America.

  • im an american that has lived in rio de janeiro for a few years. This IS a problem there, i was robbed at gunpoint, seen people shot, you name it. Rio is full of great people but until the government starts getting serious about this cancer on society, nothing will change there. MANDA O BOPE EM TODOS OS MORROS!!!

  • só com a bope msm xD

  • Are you telling me that you have never been robbed at gunpoint in the USA? And what is this "cancer" you are talking about? Drugs? Weapons? The government itself is corrupt, just as every government in the world. The govt isn't concerned about helping the poor, the homeless and the underpriveleged...that make-believe facade only happens when there's an election. People like Anderson Sa and the people in these community are the ones who are really making a difference and should get funding.

  • no doubt some cities in US are more dangerous than Rio for sure.

  • no, no no no no no noooooooooo, no not at all

  • Brazil receive lots of strangers every year (what include people who scape from US promoted war - and please don't call US as America)...

and if we do movies and documentaries like Favela Rising is just cos we don't close our eyes to our problems.

Brazil is the 5th biggest world's country and this is only a very small (but worrying) part - and unhapply is the image we export...

So, please, get some information before say something about anything (or better, study more about your country)

    Hugs!

  • I too think that the word american is conceited to claim two entire continents

  • Legalize drugs!!

    End of war!!

  • and end of economy..

  • not that simple, you junkie!

  • Exactly...

  • I didnt' mean don't ask questions that's actualy something you should do, what i meant is don't comment on a country you know nothing about.

  • Man in sorry if u got dat wrong but here in USA we call them white b/c they all say that imigrants in USA are fukin black and they are the only whites. So I just said white by the inpulse

  • fuck you all muthafuckas brazil is one of the most beautiful country of the worl so stop talk shit yo fuckin amerikkAns -.-'

  • U americans dnt know shit bout my country so shut the fuk up before u say something ok...U guys I all fuked drug dillers that sell ur mom for drugs I know lot ppl that kill their parents here in USA to get money and buy drugs. U guys are jealous because U dnd have the opportunity to say IM a Brazlian...So white bitches shut the fuk upp and dats right turn around because u guys are nutinggg....so go to hell and suicide muther fukersss

  • white bitches r u inplying that to the whole white population motherfucker cause I aint from USA but from Moldova country poorer than brazil

  • porqe qe essas porra vem aki falaar mal do Brasil? tem qe mandar eles tudo explodirrr, veyy! tem racismo tod canto do mundo. Feliz do pais qe nao tiver. mas qe o u.s tem mais, isso tem!

u americans know nothing about favelas and then u wanna come here and talk shit. thats y i hate all of you. get to know about it first, then you can comment. Brazil is a beautiful country and i agree with weapt: youre all jealous because you dont have the pride to say you were BORN IN BRAZIL. i do!! haha

  • were watching this film in humanities it made me and my friend cry coz when the police came and started to beat up the chilldren it was really sad byt this is a really good film

  • we did this as well at woking high in england !!! so sad but very gd!!

  • DUDE fuck :::: What are you talking you don't know anything about my country !!! Because Brazil is not only favela and if I live around the world now is not because I jumped the border its because they need my dad in companies so see there is not only favelas and poor people. So u guys have fucking rednecks analyse ur country before start talking about Brazil.

  • Hey iameb44 i loved what you said about Brazil!!!

and i agree with you in every way!!

    what country are you from?

    thanks for the comment!!

  • i agree with one thing u said which is don't criticize other countries or judge them with having lived in them. Till then don't ask questions because your just being ignorant. I would never comment on brazil good or bad because i have never lived there and don't know what it's really like.

  • @iameb44 Well said!

  • @iameb44 This movie is not saying that Brazil is only favelas. The movie is about the movement Afro Reggae. What you said is ridiculous!

  • @iameb44 Agree

  • @iameb44 Why are you so afraid to realize that even though our country is filled with beautiful music and culture that the fundamentally underlooked and underserved communities like the favelas still exist and still have these troubles? May be embarrassing to think about in the context of the world (violence) but to overlook it and try to hide it out of pride is neglectful and fucked up.

  • americans trying to teach brazilians about their own country.. haha i always knew that americans hate brazilian..you americans are gealous because brasil its a more happy country and mutch more rich in culture than yours.. lol dont be gealous..brazil is very racist like every country.. but america its mutch more..

  • i totally agree with u i hate most things about the country i live in. Im first generation american both my parents are from ireland. I would much rather live in a country with so much culture like brazil than live in a materialistic commericialized country which lacks any culture at all like america.

  • leave

  • i feel ya. make some dough here its good for that though.

  • @tmcswe07

Yeah, America has no culture. You sound like a spoiled little turd. Ever heard of Rock n' roll? Or Hip Hop? or Jazz or Soul Food, or been to Savannah GA or NYC? or ridden a trolly in San Fran? Apparently not. You probably live in some awful suburb of some city you're ignorant to appreciate.

  • @weapt

Seu ingles me enoja, brazil and america sucks

  • @batatatheengineer vaite foder seu paneleiro

  • @weapt you said a bunch of stupid things....

  • @Laulau33 like what?

  • @weapt I am a African American woman and I totally agree.

  • @weapt jajaja, you're dumb. USA USA USA USA!! The greatest country in the world. The rest of the world can only wish to be like America.

  • @yungbizzlebaby thats the spirit!!!

  • @yungbizzlebaby Once you travel to other countries you'll see the truth :), they're each beautiful in different ways. Try living in another country and learning about other people, this one sided approach will get you no-where in life. Just my 2 cents

  • @anthonydukes2009 ummm, I have lived in several different countries (currently reside in Japan, have lived in Switzerland, Argentina, South Korea, and the United States), and I have traveled to many other countries on vacation (a total of five different continents). So just my two cents, but I've seen a lot and been to many places, all beautiful in their own ways. My point remains that the USA gets too much hate, as we are the least racist country and most diverse country in the world. USA!!

  • Does anyone know what the music from the trailer is??

  • most of you brazilians have never been to the US so why are you saying it's racism is worst like you know?

brazil is probably worst since it's 3rd world country & never had a civil rights movement or people to stand up for non-white peoples rights.

the US was colonized by people from england, brazil was colonized by the portuese who were just as racist as the english, spaniards or any other white people during that time.the english being more racist is a misconception.

  • well, i caN say that theres way more racism in U.S. People judge you from what u look like. ok im brazilian & white, but racism is not about skin color only, its about nacionality.

when american people go to brazil, people like do everything so they feel confortable. but when u came to america they dont treat u well unless u kno how to speak good english. thats what its all about.

    flw

    -Camille

  • Race in Brazil is categorized by skin color. About 80% or more of Brazilians have west African blood. More slaves were taken to Brazil than any other country in the western hemisphere. Alot of so-called white Brazilians have African ancestry but if you appear white, you're white. In going back and forth to Brazil, I saw alot of white looking Brazilians recognizing Africa as a part of their heritage. The U.S. is one of the few countries that have strict racial categories.

  • yeh se cvn knows what he talkin bout

  • Did you take your pills the day you wrote this bullcrap???

  • ha ha your retarded i actually know what i'm talkin about, i have lived in america and brazil, chicago cabrini green (not the nicest of areas) and rio

  • I have 13 years lived in each country, and I am quite comfortable saying that you know crap!

  • your argueing completely against what this video is stating, i see no white kids in the vid

  • Of course you don't. If you actually knew anything about Brazil you would know we are 53% white, 41% Mixed, and 6% strictly black. We had 350,000 Slaves brought to Brazil, against 22 Million European Immigrants (Mostly Italian, Portuguese, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish and Dutch.) , 2 Million Asian Immigrants and 2 Million Middle Eastern Immigrants.

  • im sayin the vid has no white in struggle not, there are no white kids in brazil, im sayin aint no white kids goin through struggle in the vid

  • Because this vid shows a particular part of the country where there's a high concentration of blacks. Brazil is a country of 190 million people and is larger than the continental US. If you think that one video about a particular area shows the whole situation of the country, then I must say you are a fool.

  • im brazilian and rio is not even the worst city in brazil..

  • Im white AND brazilian.

  • your white and gay!

  • u were prety accurate there...but seriously...who cares? people who make this kind of statistics are racist =/

  • What are you talking about??? Racist? These statistics are from the Census which reports what the people tell them. If one tells the census he/she is white when in fact he/she is black, this person doesn't qualify for racist, but for downright stupid.

  • statistics show that europeans whole culture is based on murdering rape and pillaging genocide mass murder, you should never have the audocity you talk about criminals..because its your nature!

  • You should never forget that the ones that killed the most people in the Americas were the Spanish and Portuguese, both of which have about 35% Moroccan (or moors) descendants in their population. And that makes you, a Moroccan, a hypocrite to be saying such bullshit....

  • moroccans were the captians of the ship to get you to the americas but it tooks year before you all went on your "typical" rampage, and you talk about who has aids...AIDS is man made by YOU to reduce the non-white worlds population, this is well known fact.

  • Did you forget to take your pills this morning or are you just that ignorant? Moroccans have nothing to do with the discovery or colonization of the Americas. You must work on your English reading comprehension skills... Where the hell did I talk about Aids? And apparently you also don't know the concept of the word fact. Maybe you think that fact and ludicrous conspiracy theories are the same thing.

  • you obviously have never read the writings of the early european seamen like christopher columbus (not his real name) and others when they say morrocans were the captains of the ship..guess what several people had went to the americas before that, columbus son talks about the mosque he saw in honduras for instance

  • You have got to be either restarted or just plain stupid or oh yeah, another brainwashed Muslim. There's no consensus of where Columbus was born exactly, but the only plausible places are Genoa, Italy, Spanish or Portuguese. This has got to be the biggest bullshit I've ever seen anyone write. You are the kind of excrement that makes stupid people around the world proud.

  • Your statistics on the racial demographics of Brazil is biased. Brazil has a racist colonial history of slavery like the US which stereotyped Black people as inferior. So naturally many Black Brazilians will identify as white or mixed. Brazil imported the highest number of African slaves of any of the colonial nations throughout the Americas and Caribbean. So go check your facts and stop downplaying the fact that Brazil has the largest Black population outside of continental Africa.

  • Do the math and figure it out for your self. As matter of fact in the South of Brazil (the second largest Population concentration, Blacks and mixed amount to 18% of the pop. only.)

  • the only reason it may seem like theres less racism is because in brazil most of the population is black so therefore theres less white to be racist in the first place, in brazil its more of a political racism and that what truly count coz nobody cares if someone jus shout something racist to someone across the street its mor about how racist the government is in brazil.

  • gain some knowledge first son...56% of brazilians are white thats more than half. I currently live in the U.S and theres WAY more racism. WAY more.

  • don't chat shit atleast 80% of brazilians have black in em and are considered so

  • 56% white 8%black(all black) 36% like most people in the favela.

  • Ignorant fuck..... bet you also believed Bush when he said there were WMD in Iraq, hum.....

  • Most of the population is not black.... have you ever been there?

  • and i why are u sayin u hope i brazilian??? the whites own most of the wealth in brazil, even though most of the population is black, there are way more blacks in brazil than in america because 86% of slaves were taken to brazil not america!......

  • that's true.... mongobobo is right! i'm brazilian and there is racism in Brazil, cuz it's all over the world but it cannot be compared to the racism in US...

  • LOLLOOLOLOLOLOL@ there not being racism in brazil is one of the most racist countries in the world similar to south africa, do you know how hard it is to get a job if you are black in brazil and in brazil black dont just mean you look black and have black skin it means half black half latin or half italian or indian or white anything that aint white in brazil it is very hard to get a job or get anywhere

  • man i hope ur brazilian cuz theres racism in brazil of course but its WAY less than u.s and WAAAAAAAAY less than south africa. i lived in both brazil and the u.s

  • nah dudes in america just make it seem like theres more racism than there is they dont realise how good they've got it now, coz even though the government in america is racist to A POINT, they still have a lotta good things that gives em the chance to get outta their situation say for example the inner city, they have the opportunity to get out through education, where as in brazil alotta areas don't recieve proper education and the government there can be very very racist...

  • brazil one of the most racist of the world? u crazy? LOL and you are american u say that bullshit?? america is 50x more racist than brazil

  • young j3 is right there is racism in brazil .

  • Rocinha is my home and you are corret there is very little oportunity to receve good educations if you live in the favela. The pejudise come from medium and rich class people who think everbody who is poor is bad..this is not true..

    rocinhajj(at)yahoo(dot)com(dot)br

  • Something that is certain in Brazil... I don't exactly what you are saying......My god I read same system

that is here ye the brazil the truth... blah

    I only know a bit

  • I never made this comment????

  • Pink Albino just because it is against the law does not mean it does not exit. You are pretty brave to call me an idiot over the internet.

  • i used 2 sleep 2 gunshots wnew i was little in brazil i lived in front of a park n everyday there was a war between the gangs thea now i live in the U.S.A

  • there is possible to get out of the ghetto isn't there? or not? please reply back i wud like to know

  • education is the way out

  • People from Favelas such as Rocinia have no way to get further education because most familys hardly make anything to even support themselves. I have been to Brasil and I have seen how it is. Its bad. Dont say things like this if you dont have the full picture please.

  • thankyou... and they are rascist in br rite?

  • No, Brazillians aren't racist. They are however very classist. In the North-East where the majority of people are of African decent you will see more 'black' people in the middle class.

  • People always criticize the U.S.A about the racism but at least they have accepted the problem. Brazil has not really accepted the problem so it hard for them to move forward. I am not saying the States is perfect or anything. I do hear they have affirmative action in the schools now. I don't know but Brazil is no paradise.

  • racism is agaisn;t the law in brazil idiot, fuck dumb petty criminals and that means corrupt police also as criminals

  • There isn't racism in Brazil like there is in the USA. It is more based on class. 80% of Brazillians have African blood Certainly in the more European south there is more discrimination based on color than anywhere else. When slavery ended in Brazil there was no segregation laws or institutional racist policies like the US had. At the same time, the power structure did nothing to help the former slaves either. Therefore, in Brazil black skin=poor, whereas for the US black skin=inferior.

  • yea there is racism in brazil,it might not be on the same as the US but it's there

i don't have to be from there to know this,i've read & talked to enough people to know this,

& yea i'm familiar with their laws against racism but i read there is not much done or much of a punishment when some is convicted of being racist,

brazil has white skinheads,i know this for a fact, so don't give me that "we're a utopian society" bullshit.

  • Man that song Simbarere is amazing! Why don't we see more videos like this? We only see one side Brasil.

  • Lot of racism in Brazil. It surprised me. I always thought that it was an accepting country.

  • Yeah it is...if you're rich...

  • you don;t know shit about brazil kid, don't comment on it like you know sup

  • no shit there is racism in brasil its all over the WORLD. and yea it is technically illegal in the constitution but obviously its bullshit

  • Waiting to come to Greece this really as it seems amazing documentary

  • i see this every day in TV NEWS... brazilian war... pobreza do inferno nessa porra de país....

  • where can i find the dvx for this?

  • *braza*

  • truly inspirational

  • I can't wait for this to come out! I think the website said it was coming out on video towards the end of August. Be on the lookout for it!

  • Its amazing

    but i've never seen it

can you just buy it somewhere of is it something that just appears once in a while on television? or a movie?

    can someone tell?

  • yes. Strongest documentary I've ever seen.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing this and meeting the directors and producers. This documentary was amazing.
