fuck that, totally lied in this vid. besides the fact they are showing scenes from crysis 1 with a cryengine3 label in the corner, but he said they achieved making a game that looks like crysis 1 on the consoles. There's a reason why crysis 1 wasnt on consoles, it's because it cannot handle it. The release of Crysis 2 proved that it cannot provide a crysis 1 experience on consoles, as the console versions looked much less than spectacular.

cryengine 3/crysis 2 is going to be soo shit for ps3 and xbox 360. pc gaming rules them all. ps3 and 360's hardware are way out of date. and so therefor crysis 2 will not have the same graphics as for the pc. becasue for the consoles it will be optimised which in other words its going to be lower quality than the pc's end of stotry ^^

Don't you want to show us a little bit of the process of programming, how staff works, etc.? How is working R&D, how they're finding new formulas to the new effect which then is implemented. I mean, it would be interesting to see the way from the birth of the idea (a new formula) to the general implmentation (written code or just algorithm)... :)

yes moving forward by software not hardware, i love it. we need cry engine 3 and so do developers so games that come out wont look like gears of war, cuz the unreal engine is used in A LOT of games.

Yeh, I think too many, we need some different engine for different feels, cause the unreal engine feel is a little bit too familiar nowdays. (AKA Bloom effects everywhere, very shiny, lots of post processing, a bit raw-feeling (not a bad thing)) I thought that the Cryengine 2 had a less hectic, more large-scale, cinematic feeling, which is what some games need.

CryEngine 3 is not a massive graphics step forward. Instead, it's a far more optimised CryEngine 2 basically. This means for example that multi-GPU solutions will perform better.

The major changes in the new engine are the better optimisation, and obviously support for the consoles.

@EviLPirateLorD I disagree with you because I not only think this already should have been included with Cryengine2 (well, not the conole-support; that developed over time and became more important for Crytek after Crysis' release) but also think that it is important that the engines should advance more and more to realistic image rendering. And one thing that stands in the way of this is the sometimes really unrealistic lighting in games.

I liked crysis, I played it on mid settings(the first time, like most ppl did probably) these guys seem pretty obsessed with graphx, In my opinion ppl should focus on gameplay(not saying crysis gameplay was bad), just sayin games like FEAR 2 and COD 4 run so much smoother and still look good on mainstream gpus (no open worlds tho).

They've done quite a bit of tweaking to the engine to improve the graphics. They have a new lighting technique and improved LOD.

When a single card can do 2560 by 1600 at more than very high (textures and stuff) settings at 60 fps. Maybe Fermi can do 1920 by 1200 at 60 fps on very high settings on a single card.

You have to admit though, that the CryEngine 3 does look very good on the PS3. I thought Metal Gear Solid 4 was good. Then I thought Killzone 2 was even better. Crysis 2 is clearly going to exceed both of them.

Games on DVDs require multiple discs to install for most games. Blu-ray can hold a lot more data. Think about that for games.

thats true. but i remember when i got HL2 on 5 CD's and my friend got the collectors edition that came with 1 DvD. the instal times were pretty much the same. i just had to switch out the CD's. Although for some it may be nice it really isn't a necessity.

Either way all i'm trying to say is a mid range or high end PC will always be better than consoles in most ways. A single GTX 480 or 5870 would annihilate a PS3 and 360 combined, couple that with a few gigs of ram and an awsome processor and there you go lol

You can compress files on pc it means that you can put 60 gb on 8 gb DVD ps3 use fluray and why is that much space on that disc because ps3 is weak and they need fast reading of data from disc ps3 doesn't have that much cpu space for that and it uses fluray to make space. And that is how crysis lost its soul in this cryshit thing that is ported to pc with no respect for veteran crysis players.I demand one thing from you crytek just stop making games for pc you fail.

Yep, he did; Sandbox editor for console, that just made this game for me. 3:37 is roughly where he starts talking about it, and from what it sounds like, they basically took up the UI of the Far Cry mapmaker, but with AI as well.

there you have it add in a hard drive and a case you'll have a computer that will run games as well as or better than the ps3. of course that mobo might need a bios flash but that has nothing to do with performance.

also add another gts 250 for 110 bucks, you got something that will run crysis very high at 30+ fps average. much better than the ps3

Basically what Crytek is saying is that Cryengine 2 didn't get a good response from other game developers. With CryEngine 3 (modified CE2 for consoles + PC), it is now possible for console devs to use it as well.
