I loved KDE until 4 came out. The best words to describe it are "missed potential". I installed it on my Ubuntu 9.04 to have a look since this current version is suppose to be ready to roll, but the interface is so unpolished in certain places(namely kicker), and the groady widget desktop is just gross. I'm pure gnome now on my Linux machine. It ain't as pretty but at least it's usable. If I wanted style over substance I'd use OS X.
KDE sucks, I would rather use GNUstep with Windowmaker. (there's a lot of potential in that, it could evolve into running mac apps on linux, but we'll need developers to work on that)
I used Gnome for a while than tried Kubuntu, and I didn't like KDE's look and feel, and my wireless driver would load in Kubuntu for some reason. (loads in Ubuntu) So I'm stuck on gnome
I love Kubuntu 9.04, I put it on my laptop. IMO it has better power management than Gnome (at least for laptops).

KDE is nice, but every fucking program starts with a K
and is quite confusing when you switch from a gnome desktop.

Indeed, it pisses me off how everything starts with K >.> I much prefer Awesome really, but if I had to choose a DE, Gnome is #1 in my book.

QT4 is much better than GTK. lol. GTK was made for portability and QT is more portable.
