I love this album - returning to it is beyond words. I have on vinyl but have not played for 5 years at least. - I used to listen to this as a teen with the doors closed and volume up - i grew to love it over the time, and hailed it as one of his best. It still works on a number of levels as a real iconis album with fretless bass and extraordinary atmospheres. Numan sings strangely and the lyrics are quite dark overall. Thank as always!
Great album such a change of direction very brave from a man who was and still is years ahead of the pack. all the musicians on garys albums are top quality.

Pretty timeless don't you think? I was only one year old when it came out back in 1981. Discovered the album along with Numan 20 years later. Still sounded fresh.
I am not young, and I have owned/still own many many many albums. If I was forced to pick just one to own for the rest of my life, it would be this one. Gary Numan's "Dance" is brilliant beyond words.
have you ever heard of the group 'Dali's Car? It is a mix of Peter Murphy and Mick Karn and it is amazing but it doesn't touch this stuff unfortunately NOT MUCH EVER RECORDED DOES!!
When I bought the album, the headphones went on and this song went right into my head. It was a day before I heard the rest of it, played this song over and over. Still amazes me.
One of my all time favorite Albums. This is my favorite song on the album. The Fretless Bass sounds so nice/hypnotic. Very well done. This song is just so great!
The fretless bass reminds you of a big fluid rubber band snaking its way through the mix and curling its little tail on high note harmony swoops just below or above the higher synth lines.
As a young Numanoid, this was my least favourite album, but in retrospect I think its one of his best. Incidentlay his face was black and blue for the photo-shoot for this LP (The boyfriend of a girl he'd been seeing attacked him just before the shoot). You can still see it, even under the heavy make-up, if you have the LP.
And btw

Excellent - Excellent Bass. God, to get this sultry/suductive sound out of a bass is amazing.

I bought this album when it first came out. I'll have to dig it up from my parents house to see if I can see the brusies on his face.
