Knowledge is not good or bad in itself. It is the use to which people put that knowledge, that is the danger behind this. Monsanto has over 11,000 "patents" on OUR food, herbs, medicines, etc. This is truly dangerous.

I don't think it's possible to create life of far beyond a virus level of complexity from scratch in next few dozen or even hundred years.

Blindfolded mutations, triggered by humans (ie, in essence "genetic engineering"), is happening now. And that can be dangerous, because "try and error" approach is unpredictable.
