@Ghostgirl777 Basically by running from every random battle. Boss battles don't give exp in this game. *claps* gotta say im impressed and believed the same thing djslurch(person below) said, so i must concede the point in this case and admit defeat. other than that i must say that i am surprised at the amount of time this must have taken, i mean coming up with a strategy to take down three very tough bosses.
Interestingly enough, it seems like Flare Star was designed to be dangerous no matter what level you are--that a level 1 party can survive it is just a side effect of that. For example, it'd do, what, almost 4000 damage to a level 99 party? That's pretty huge for FF9.
I only have one question. How were you able to powerup Freya's Dragon Crest without levelling up? I know you have to kill 100 dragons to get it to do 9999 damage, so how did you manage to NOT level while doing that?
@deadlykidCs I fought against the Yan enemies and got my whole party infected with the virus status. this prevents them from gaining exp, and with my whole party with this, i could fight as many battles I wanted. :)
@DragosTheGod Flare star deals damage based on the level of the target it hits. It deals damage = 35 x target's level. So since all my characters are level 1, it will always do only 35 damage.
before start a battle.. show them your status.. show them your str. etc is below 50 something... A ONLY LVL 1 STATS... Nice gameplay... im sure you play this for so many years..
@astigmareal i know i should have done that, but this video wasn't originally made for youtube, I just recorded it for my own, so I could look back and remember when I did it on lvl 1. And when i was gonna upload it here, i didn't care to re-do it, because I didn't really upload it to prove anything, I just thought maybe other people wanted to see it.
im sure this is true! he only use a special skill,magic.. he doesnt use a phisical attack.. his right bosses give only AP.. and for the blue magic. after quina ate.. zidane flee. ryt? its because of zidane has a flee skill.. :)
@KisanaKun First of all, thanks for being so mature and serious as to call me an idiot. Did you even watch the video? It's right there. What do you not get? "kuja use MEGA ATOMNIUM", what the hell is that? are you talking about flare star? That deals damage equal to 35 x target's level.
Anyhow, I don't really care if you believe this or not. It doesn't matter to me, I am tired of defending myself against ignorant fools like yourselves. You can't even see whats right before your eyes.
@KisanaKun I didn't understand much of what you said, since I don't speak french, but I understand the word Fake. And I can tell you right now this is not fake. And I will gladly answer any questions you have regarding that, but you need to do it in a language I understand :P
As far as I recall, you need alot of AP, and the total AP you get from the bosses leading up to Kuja/ Necron / Ozma, totals up to, not enough surely... I know it isn't because I only had the Auto-Life ability at Ark, and even then, I had to completely boost by fighting Grand Dragons and doing the Nymph trick
@Uncharted2fan8D That is possible by fighting random battles and using petrify/stop on all the enemies. This ends the battle, and gives you no exp, BUT you get AP.

@Shnumenstein Because the damage of Flare Star is based on the target's level. The formula goes: 35 x target's level = damage. Since my characters are all level 1, the math is: 35 x1 = 35.

the fact that if you lost to necron you'd have to fight kuja all over again pissed me right off and you did it with lvl 1s. i must applaud you on your GRANDE CAJONES
Last bosses of a game should take a party that is 99 with full epics/legendary gear to even come close to beating. I think it's pretty lame they make bosses so damn gay in the later Final Fantasies you can beat them gimp groups.
@drakiyth Exploiting terrible design flaws? Someone is narrow-minded. This isn't a design flaw, it's someone who worked hard on strategies to fight a boss at an extreme disadvantage. There are no "flaws" if the game made armor that absorbs/guards against certain attacks, or provided players with abilities to heal themselves after being attacked. This guy did something most people wouldn't think of, and the fact that he DID do it, shows not a flaw, but a versatile and fun game.
@RedHotSeth Well said! How the hell is it a design flaw anyway? That person knows not what they are talking about. Square Enix has always made alternative methods to completing their games.
@drakiyth The Final Bosses are made easy so that players don't have to grind for ages to finish the storyline. If you want something that requires a massive effort to defeat, try the optional bosses.
Something I don't understand... How did you get Freya's Dragon's Crest do 9999 damage? If you kill a dragon you receive EXP, so if you kill 100 dragons your level will be much higher then level one.
im i the first one to discover a subliminal message about ff9? its alot more clear in dissidia but if u look at the patturn of the floor in this battle then u can see a pentagron ( dont know how to spell it lol) but its a satanic symbol 0.o
well, perhaps, but like i said b4, it is ALOT more clear in dissidia, if u own the game, ply on that stage and forfeit the match, look at the floor surroundin ur character and you'll see it clear as day man
Well, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, and haven't bothered reading my previous comments. Kuja hits only 50 with Flare Star because the damage his Flare Star deals is based on the level of the target it hits. The formula for that spell is 50 x target's level, so since my characters are all level 1...well, you do the math.
No programs or cheats used. How I did it? Well, to be short; I ran from all the random battles. That helps avoid exp. Boss battles don't give any exp anyway, so.
Also check out Invincible Garland's vids about it its not gameshark, I have done both a level 1 game and a excalibur 2 perfect, the only hard part is doing it in time, and luck
I did this too. It's fun and easy besides the Iifa Tree and the Alexandria rescue, which are hell.
You might want to try out an Excalibur II Perfect Game, getting all missable items and the sword plus perfect stats. Check out videos by 1whoistornapart, letao12, and rlouisw
Nice job. 1 question: Did you give other people not in the current party the EXP in pandemonium? I plan on doing a similar challenge soon so i was just wondering.
That's right. There is a point in the game there where gaining exp is unavoidable. So I had to have some of my characters gain exp, and then of course never use them again (to not spoil the level 1-game)
wait you say there is a part in the game where gaining exp is unavoidable? what part would that be and if that is so, I wouldn't count it as a true level 1 game, cause it forces you to gain exp.
First of all, yes, there are three battles in Pandemonium where you can not avoid gaining exp. In these 3 battles I had 3 different characters take the hit (Steiner, Garnet and Amarant). After this point, I never used them again. Some would, as you, because of this not count it as a true level 1 game, but in that case a true level 1 game is not possible in Final Fantasy IX, as there is no way to get past these battles, unless you use gameshark. this is as close to a clean level 1 game as it gets
No, not all of them. As far as I can remember, only Flare Star deals damage based on level. But because of my equipment and abilites, I am able to withstand the other attacks pretty well too.
if you visit gamefaqs and find the level one ozma guide, everything you need to know is there. that's what helped me. This is much more difficult without it, and kudos to the person who discovered this and calculated it all :P
which skill's damage has to refer to some side quest, like dragon crest need to kill more dragon, theivery need to steal more, frog drop need to catch more frog, any others?
Hehe, well I'm getting pretty used to it. :) It's no big deal really, the world is full of people who act like they know everything about something without even being close to having a clue to what they're talking about. ;)
Of course they do. Flare star deals damage based on the level of the target it hits. The formula is 35 x level, so since I am all level 1, I have nothing to fear from it. If your characters are level 90, flare star deals exactly 3150 damage on each of them.
This must be fake. You just begun the battle with high lvl but low hp/mp.
Dragon's crast of Frejia work by the number of dragons killed during the game. If Kuja is damaged 9999hp, it mean you killed a lot of dragons. So where is the exp of those dragons?
Watch my other video where I prove that I am level 1 (even though it is loud and clear in this vid as well if you know what to look for).
Dragon's crest is boosted by killing dragons, that is absolutely correct. But I killed those dragons while my entire party was in virus status. Virus prevents them from gaining any exp.
I think the comments on here are the saddest bunch of them all. :/
It seems that many, MANY people have NO IDEA that you can do level 1 challenges in Final Fantasy games (or low level since some Final Fantasy like Final Fantasy VIII begins at level 7). I cannot even begin to explain how the mechanics work.
It's ridiculous how people accuse you since this is 100% possible. It just requires time and dedication, and lots of alternative ways to defeat enemies.
Thank you :) Yeah, I think we really just gotta live with the fact that there are so many ignorant people out there who have no idea what they are talking about.
Fortunately, there are many people who know this is possible as well, and also many people who discover this possibility for the first time through videos like this. :)
Haha, well, how I get through them without going insane is probably hard to answer. Patience is the keyword, I would say. It takes alot of attempts and hard work. :P
Why wont people just stop telling that they're goddamn best at Final Fantasy games and can pwn superbosses with one shots and so on... Instead just concentrate on the storyline -_-
Well excuse me for already finishing the storyline and looking for a greater challenge. I haven't told anyone I'm best at anything, but thanks for pointing it out. I'm really sorry I can "pwn superbosses with one shots" and you can't.
I'm trying for lvl 1 party challenge too, after finishing the best possible stat challenge. Anyway, what is your actual playtime for you to finish this lvl 1 challenge? Not the game time, but instead YOUR playtime, including your death.
Well, game time is at 60 hours, but MY playtime is alot more. It's naturally impossible for me to say, I haven't written any journal on all my restarts and such.
Strange how you can say that and pretend you know that, when it's not true at all. Check out my other video where I do this fight again and show my stats, my stats are not maxed out, nor is my speed. But I am good at knowing WHEN to put in my commands to get the best of them.
lol i know u fixed the game otherwise u can't have all those skills <.<" because u have that much skills u can only get ap from the bosses or random beasts that asked for a saphire, diamond etc. so or u had very much random beasts or u fixed the game...
Funny how many people here claim to know that I cheat and fix games and stuff, when none of you have ANY idea what you're talking about.
I can get ap from random battles by petrifying the enemy. This prevents me from gaining experience, but gives me ap and lets me win the battle. Try it yourself, and see that it's true.
Kirby, your an idiot. If you don't even know how a level 1 game works, then don't post. There are several ways to get AP from an enemy and not get experience. Jesus.
Long story short: I run from all the random battles in the game. Boss battles do not give exp in FF IX. And then there are some non-optional battles that do give exp, where I have to avoid gaining exp by petrifying or stopping the enemies.
You guys really shouldn't be fighting about this, it's just a game. Besides, almost every game out there has glitches, and most of the Final fantasy series has some major ones. Plus, what does it matter if it isn't theirs? It still shows that it can be done, and is not impossible. Isn't that enough?
I can see your point with that, but honestly, one of you just needs to stop and accept that fact that the other is going to be stubborn and is not going to give up. I'm sorry.
There are several RPG's out there that actually enable you to find some way to the final boss without leveling [Star Ocean 3 comes to mind, for those of you that bothered to get the trophy for this, though there are others as well].
I didn't think about this with Final Fantasy IX though. Nice work!
I do have a question though:
How do you survive the Flare Star? I haven't played this since it first came out, so I've forgotten most of the game's mechanics.
Actually, I just rewatched the video. Does Flare Star only deal a fixed percentage of the max HP? Or maybe there's something else that's escaping my memory at the moment.
Oh my god... how do you even make it to this point without moving past level 1?
And...hehe...I can see Kuja's tail...

Last bosses of a game should take a party that is 99 with full epics/legendary gear to even come close to beating. I think it's pretty lame they make bosses so damn gay in the later Final Fantasies you can beat them gimp groups.
drakiyth 1 year ago
Meh, this is simply exploiting terrible design flaws.
drakiyth 1 year ago
@drakiyth Exploiting terrible design flaws? Someone is narrow-minded. This isn't a design flaw, it's someone who worked hard on strategies to fight a boss at an extreme disadvantage. There are no "flaws" if the game made armor that absorbs/guards against certain attacks, or provided players with abilities to heal themselves after being attacked. This guy did something most people wouldn't think of, and the fact that he DID do it, shows not a flaw, but a versatile and fun game.
RedHotSeth 1 year ago 28
@RedHotSeth Well said!
bloodguiser 4 months ago
@RedHotSeth Well said! How the hell is it a design flaw anyway? That person knows not what they are talking about. Square Enix has always made alternative methods to completing their games.
bloodguiser 4 months ago
@drakiyth It's not design flaws, it's a challenge.
Badfish93 1 year ago
@drakiyth The Final Bosses are made easy so that players don't have to grind for ages to finish the storyline. If you want something that requires a massive effort to defeat, try the optional bosses.

Well you are absolutely right ;)
Nevnarion 2 years ago
Something I don't understand... How did you get Freya's Dragon's Crest do 9999 damage? If you kill a dragon you receive EXP, so if you kill 100 dragons your level will be much higher then level one.
LittleMichaelz 2 years ago
im i the first one to discover a subliminal message about ff9? its alot more clear in dissidia but if u look at the patturn of the floor in this battle then u can see a pentagron ( dont know how to spell it lol) but its a satanic symbol 0.o
MrGoughers101 2 years ago
can't really say I see the pentagram here, and even if it is...the pentagram is only satanic if it's turned upside down.
The pentagram has many meanings really, can mean dark and black magic, or it can have a healing purpose. so..
Nevnarion 2 years ago
well, perhaps, but like i said b4, it is ALOT more clear in dissidia, if u own the game, ply on that stage and forfeit the match, look at the floor surroundin ur character and you'll see it clear as day man
MrGoughers101 2 years ago
and btw no way kuja will hit 50s on u... lamo...
annabananalol219 2 years ago
Well, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, and haven't bothered reading my previous comments. Kuja hits only 50 with Flare Star because the damage his Flare Star deals is based on the level of the target it hits. The formula for that spell is 50 x target's level, so since my characters are all level 1...well, you do the math.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
umm w8 if u dont lvl up how can u use the summon and the stronger magic...
annabananalol219 2 years ago
How? Ehm, maybe you could tell my why I could NOT use them? Stronger magic only requires MP, not high level or anything. As you can see
Nevnarion 2 years ago
How you can did it? You must used some program to not XP gained
villdius5 2 years ago
No programs or cheats used. How I did it? Well, to be short; I ran from all the random battles. That helps avoid exp. Boss battles don't give any exp anyway, so.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
poor team.
Vivi, steiner, dagger and zidane !!!
THE BEST
cantieri 2 years ago
I agree, that is my favorite team as well.
BUT:
Does Vivi have an attack that deals 9999 damage, even when he's level 1?
Does Dagger? Or Steiner?
This is a level 1 game.

how do u gain ap but no exp :S
its probs an obvious answer but i havnt played the game in a lobg time :L

rhinoboys10 2 years ago
Nice job. 1 question: Did you give other people not in the current party the EXP in pandemonium? I plan on doing a similar challenge soon so i was just wondering.
Thanks.
VGameplaythroughs 2 years ago
That's right. There is a point in the game there where gaining exp is unavoidable. So I had to have some of my characters gain exp, and then of course never use them again (to not spoil the level 1-game)
Nevnarion 2 years ago
wait you say there is a part in the game where gaining exp is unavoidable? what part would that be and if that is so, I wouldn't count it as a true level 1 game, cause it forces you to gain exp.
Orochimarusama21 1 year ago
First of all, yes, there are three battles in Pandemonium where you can not avoid gaining exp. In these 3 battles I had 3 different characters take the hit (Steiner, Garnet and Amarant). After this point, I never used them again. Some would, as you, because of this not count it as a true level 1 game, but in that case a true level 1 game is not possible in Final Fantasy IX, as there is no way to get past these battles, unless you use gameshark. this is as close to a clean level 1 game as it gets
Nevnarion 1 year ago
what would those battles be exactly?
Orochimarusama21 1 year ago
Amdusias, Abadon and Shell Dragon
Nevnarion 1 year ago
how time consuming was it to max out thievery and crest?
lendial 2 years ago
Crest didn't take that long, thievery is another story. As you can see, I didn't even bother maxing thievery out to 9999. it got way too boring. ;)

well done your good player to defeat him at lvl 1
btw is all trance kujas damage determined by your lvl
kao123456654 2 years ago
Thank you :)
No, not all of them. As far as I can remember, only Flare Star deals damage based on level. But because of my equipment and abilites, I am able to withstand the other attacks pretty well too.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
kk just wonderin cuz im gonna try and do it at lvl 1 so im jus tryin to get as much information as possible to try and make it easier

I tried this a little while ago, lost my will, though. I guess I'm not patient enough :O wish I was, though, haha. Grats on this, by the way.
However, I did end up doing the low level "hard ff7"
TehPwnage1337h4x0rz 2 years ago
WTF lol, I know about level 1 challenges and stuff, but you just took 35 damage from flare star... even my level 90s take 1000-2000.
armageddal 2 years ago
Of course they do. Flare star deals damage based on the level of the target it hits. The formula is 35 x level, so since I am all level 1, I have nothing to fear from it. If your characters are level 90, flare star deals exactly 3150 damage on each of them.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
This must be fake. You just begun the battle with high lvl but low hp/mp.
Dragon's crast of Frejia work by the number of dragons killed during the game. If Kuja is damaged 9999hp, it mean you killed a lot of dragons. So where is the exp of those dragons?
beck0 2 years ago
Watch my other video where I prove that I am level 1 (even though it is loud and clear in this vid as well if you know what to look for).
Dragon's crest is boosted by killing dragons, that is absolutely correct. But I killed those dragons while my entire party was in virus status. Virus prevents them from gaining any exp.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
Mm... you're right! I didn't tought about virus.
You convinced me now. So... nice job!

BTW, Kudos for the video. :D
AncientWhisper 2 years ago 8
Thank you :) Yeah, I think we really just gotta live with the fact that there are so many ignorant people out there who have no idea what they are talking about.
Fortunately, there are many people who know this is possible as well, and also many people who discover this possibility for the first time through videos like this. :)
Nevnarion 2 years ago
uhhhh... okay...
I got some few questions...
please answer them...
1. how do you gain AP w/out EXP?
2. isn't that hard that you have insufficient MP? like quina's mighty guard...
3.how did you got past those bosses with AoE skills? like when you battled kuja in terra... (men.. I hate that star skill thingy!)
4.where did you play that? PC or PS1?

oh... renew question #3!
I mean the skills with aerial slash...

Why wont people just stop telling that they're goddamn best at Final Fantasy games and can pwn superbosses with one shots and so on... Instead just concentrate on the storyline -_-
TheJorus 2 years ago
Well excuse me for already finishing the storyline and looking for a greater challenge. I haven't told anyone I'm best at anything, but thanks for pointing it out. I'm really sorry I can "pwn superbosses with one shots" and you can't.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
Well here I'm pointing out how it is your own fault people accuse you for cheating.
TheJorus 2 years ago
And why is that?
Nevnarion 2 years ago
I'm trying for lvl 1 party challenge too, after finishing the best possible stat challenge. Anyway, what is your actual playtime for you to finish this lvl 1 challenge? Not the game time, but instead YOUR playtime, including your death.
omegahub 2 years ago
Well, game time is at 60 hours, but MY playtime is alot more. It's naturally impossible for me to say, I haven't written any journal on all my restarts and such.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
wow, strange how your speed is max, as are the rest of your stats LMAO, obvious.
heffy187 2 years ago
Strange how you can say that and pretend you know that, when it's not true at all. Check out my other video where I do this fight again and show my stats, my stats are not maxed out, nor is my speed. But I am good at knowing WHEN to put in my commands to get the best of them.

Nevnarion 2 years ago
lol i know u fixed the game otherwise u can't have all those skills <.<" because u have that much skills u can only get ap from the bosses or random beasts that asked for a saphire, diamond etc. so or u had very much random beasts or u fixed the game...
Kirby662 2 years ago
Funny how many people here claim to know that I cheat and fix games and stuff, when none of you have ANY idea what you're talking about.
I can get ap from random battles by petrifying the enemy. This prevents me from gaining experience, but gives me ap and lets me win the battle. Try it yourself, and see that it's true.
Nevnarion 2 years ago
Kirby, your an idiot. If you don't even know how a level 1 game works, then don't post. There are several ways to get AP from an enemy and not get experience. Jesus.

im curious as to how you get this far without leveling up? im not accusing you of anything i just dont know how that works
crazyimprovgod 2 years ago
Long story short: I run from all the random battles in the game. Boss battles do not give exp in FF IX. And then there are some non-optional battles that do give exp, where I have to avoid gaining exp by petrifying or stopping the enemies.

You guys really shouldn't be fighting about this, it's just a game. Besides, almost every game out there has glitches, and most of the Final fantasy series has some major ones. Plus, what does it matter if it isn't theirs? It still shows that it can be done, and is not impossible. Isn't that enough?
koolgrl1016 2 years ago
I know, it's a stupid thing to fight about, but I really can't just sit by and listen to someone accusing me for stealing and cheating
Nevnarion 2 years ago
I can see your point with that, but honestly, one of you just needs to stop and accept that fact that the other is going to be stubborn and is not going to give up. I'm sorry.

Tymaca321 2 years ago
Gee, someone's jealous of Nevnarion.
Darscus 2 years ago
Actually, I just rewatched the video. Does Flare Star only deal a fixed percentage of the max HP? Or maybe there's something else that's escaping my memory at the moment.
Darscus 2 years ago
That is correct, the damage is based on the target's level. The formula is 35 x target level, so in my case 35 x1 = 35. :)
Nevnarion 2 years ago
