Thanks to the decision of Noor Jehan to sing also in Indian Cinema I got to know her wonderful voice at early age. To me it does not matter if she sings for India or Pakistan. Yes she is from Pakistan and she has also build a career in India. Now she is singing a song for the Country India. Eventhough it was for a Movie.. We must not forget that Every desh in this world does not belong to us humankind.

Khwaja sahab baat ye hay kay listeners ab bhi Pak aur India mein bahut hain jo "kaan-ras" hain lekin policies to Govts. banati hain. Public pehlay bhi artists ki qadar karti thi lekin dono taraf kay siyasatdan "pehlay Kashmir..phir relations" ka naara lagatay thay ..apni siyasat chamkanay ko. so qasoor aapka ya mera ya public ka nahi hay, hum khaarja policy nahi banatay.

Rahi baat marketing ki to aap pirated 2000 cd bhi lay letay to Lata ko to aik paisa royalty nahi milni thi :)

You are right but the point I was making when I said "hazaron Pakistani ganay lyrics aur dhun samait xerox kiye ja chuke hain" ( Iam sure Dr Sahib can provide a whole catalogue of these) Pakistani Film music is heard in India particularly by the professionals in the business so the acknowledgement needs to come from the professionals too are willing take the work but not give credit by acknowledging.

Yeah.. Naseem Begum and Mala both had shrill, shreik or cheekh at high-pitch yet they sung some beautiful songs which are my favourite as well.

I am sorry it was not my intention to upset anyone it does upset me to see that some artists do not get the due recognition from the artists across the border and I was only responding to the noble thoughts expressed by Dr. Bokhari. I think Muna Dey was alive. Our affection for Lata, Mukesh, Rafi , Talat, Saigol Shamshad and all remains the same. Would it not be nicer if Salim Raza, Nasim Begum and Rushdi, all dead were also acknowledged? Would it not further the message of Dr Sahib? Nevermind!

It could be, in my humble opinion, that India had a major headstart in the entertainment field, and was already a major force in the arts before Pakistan came into being. There being a negative attitude towards music, film industry etc., Pakistanis had to struggle (and still do) in this field, to have a strong presence. Just a small offering to explain our lack of recognition. I am not taking sides.

In Lata's Shardhanjli she paid tribute most singers of the past but never included a single song of Noor Jehan or Mehdi Hasan or any other Pakistani singer particularly post independence songs. Aisa bhi nahi hai ke hamaray phoolon ki khushboo Hindustan tak kabhi pohaunchti nahi kiyun ke aap jantay hongay hazaron Pakistani ganay lyrics aur dhun samait xerox kiye ja chuke hain. Sawal ye hai keh agar ye art ki baat hai to khuli tarah se Pakistani fankaron to acknowledge kiyun nahi kiya jata.

Kya Lata nay hazaron dafa Mehdi Hassan aur Noor Jehan ki azmat ka aaitraf nahi kiya apnay interviews mein.. 23-12-2000 ko Noor Jehan ki death hui aur aik live show chal raha tha Zee TV par jis mein Lata ko bulwaya gaya tha kisi aur artist ko award denay. She didnt say anything about award or the artist but straight-away talked about Noor Jehan;s death as her personal loss cuz she was her ideal since childhood

1- aik to ye kay Sharadhanjali Album mein sab geet Lata ki choice kay nahi thay cuz basically album manufacturer company mulk ki marketing feasibility ko zehn mein rakh kar song selection karti hay..

2- mere nazdeek, lafzon mein aap kay paas bahut wide field hota hay kisi ko tribute paish karnay ka rather than just singing 2 or 3 of his/her songs. Many a times indian tv showed us Lata's room where she was having Cds of Mehdi Hassan ghazals she likes when time.

Absolutely agree with you Dr Sahib nothing wrong with Noor Jehan singing " Ye Desh hamara..... Indeed it was ours too as you point out. But quite honestly I dont see the genorisity of praise and a genuine affection Pakistanis show towards the Indian artists is not reciprocated by our Indian counterparts particulasrly the the Indian artists. Zabani jama khurch bohat hota "ke Mehdi Hasan ke gale se bhagwan bolta hai aur" " Noor Jehan bohat bari singer hain " and so on but substance nothing.

I agree with you that geographically United India is impossible. For some Pakistanis, it is not just religious issue, but cultural and racial as well. Balochistan and NWFP dont share much in common with India and Indians.. racially those people are INDO-IRANIANS and are part of what you call greater IRAN (Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Kurdistan, and Western Pakistan)..

Greater or United India India includes Bangladesh, present day India and eastern parts of Pakistan (Punjab and Sindh). Only because British were able to conquer some parts of Afghanistan and Iran and merge it into British India, doesnt mean they were always part of India.

Addition to my earlier response: Emperors Akbar and Zafar, poet Iqbal, and singer Noor Jehan used Hindustan in that secular, geographic sense. As for good music lovers, indeed for all art lovers, there are no sectarian boundaries. Jast as Lataji, Rafiji, Talatji , Mukeshji and a host of other singers "belong" not just to Indians but to Pakistanis and others as well, Mehdi Hassan, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Akhlaq Ahmed and other Pakistani singers "belong" to Indians in equal measure. Bless them .

Pakistan and India can enrich each other in multitudinous ways thorough peaceful coexistence as between, say, the U.S. and Canada. BTW, Hindustan originally meant the land around and beyond the Sindhu river.Ancient Persians rendered that sound into Hindu.
