@karlkani231107 I am exactly the same plus i have anxiety panic disorder.I just got a job where I am gonna have to fly every six months for training.I dunno if I can do it.
@trendy76 what you can do is, take medication with you for in case you panic. maybe just knowing that you have something with you that can help, will maybe calm you down already.
I had a horrible fear of flying and what I suggest for first time flyers is to watch videos like this. Get familiar with what the plane does at take off and landing and videos on turbulence. My first flight I walked on the plane scared, but like I owned it. I sat down in my seat and just let it happen. The take-off does feel a bit... odd, but it's not hard. Flying is much like a bus ride. Just keep your mind on something else. Landing can be shaky, but you will be amazed at how good pilots are.
Ahhh United Flight 808 Heavy contact Chicago Center Roger 110 -20 good day. Climb and maintain level 23 thousand. Climbing and mainting level 23 thousand, ahh United Flight 808.
take offs and landings are quite safe. you are monitored by several radar systems and back ups. landing is even safer with hardly any fuel onboard. turbulence is not as issue as the wings can flex 24ft. turbulence has never brought down an airliner in history. if it was SO bad, do you think air stewards think 'ohh am i going to die today ?" they dont. its just a job and its just transport. simple as, the actual danger is the drive to the airport.
Why they dont upgrade the plane emergency protection just like car, once it crash on land it will be like fuel bomb. Add some anti-flame armor, emergency parachute, shock airbag for land crash, neutralizing agent spray for fuel...
I have a fascination in Planes. I know how safe they are. Only problem is; I know many possible hazards. No, a wing or an engine couldn't simply just rip off, but the auto-pilot could mess up making the plane spiral into the ocean...
There's that bit in "Airport" when the roof starts caving in after that guy detonates a bomb at the back. that freaked me out big time for a while!!!!
My daughers bought me a flight similator, Cause I've been wonting one for a long time.. I couldn't beleive how much it made me feel better bout flying. Still havint gotten on a plane, but I'm closer to it. In fact keep having dreams about getting on a plane. Uuugggg.... Need drugs hard core.
I've only flown on 6 airplanes in my life....and unfortunately one was plagued by heavy turbulence...and since that time I've developed a fear of flying. Now I have to get on a plane and fly 8 hours across the pond to Europe. God, I hope I find some peace of mind before my flight. The videos on youtube have helped a little, so am trying to be optimistic.
@osallent Same deal with me, had a really bad turbulence experience on a trip to napels italy... I now how a tremendous fear of flying, I wanna go to Rome this year in about 2 months... but I'm not sure If I can go by plane I think I might just have to do a 10 hour train ride.
It's not so much the mid-flight that's perfectly fine with me hell it's even beautiful unless there's turbulence of course but it's the take off and landing that make me really nervous.
@yakomuto never in history has turbulence brought down a jet liner. it isnt physically possible. the wings can flex 24ft at the tips. it simply will not happen. belt up, and let the bumping rock you to sleep. once you get used to flying, you actually look forward to the trips.
@GinnyPiggyNes it's o.k! Flying in the night's alot betr than fog, you have low visibility and nothin helps much, but you have lights (on the aircraft) at night and you can see everything ahead of you.
the only thing im scared of i flying at night. i dont know why, but i just do. im also scared of the take off during the night. im going on a plane at 4 in the morning tommorow and obviously its gonna be dark so i'll be really freaked out
@GinnyPiggyNes I had the came concern, but when I got on the plane I spoke with the pilot (try it, they will talk to you) he assured me that everything is much more visible for them at night and he preferred it.
@cabgt Yes airplanes can comfortably glide but for a limited amount of time because of its weight. However, pilots can dump fuel(let go of some of the fuel on board) to ensure safety maneuvering of the aircraft. Search for the documentary on the air accident called "The Gimli Glider"--***No one died in that accident.
Goddammit... I hate flying. I'm thinking about staying home while my family goes to Italy next month... 10 mothafucking hours from new york to italy... fuckk that stupid cunt that invented flying.
@oblivion292 Without the invention of flight this world would be backwards, you can say goodbye to all the technology you have because without flight we wouldnt have TVs cell phones less business war lower ecomony so many more things.... Just go to Italy flying is fun.
@g18k77 I ultimately ended up going anyway though. But just a note. A fear of flying is a completely common thing. I wasn't the only one freaking out when the air bus I was taking hit a huge air pocket coming home. The whole plane just jumped and everyone looked as nervous as I did. I find that a couple of drinks before you get on the plane helps. But.. in the end.. if your meant to go.. then its just your time.. just like that Air France incident. I guess we all end up in the same place anyway
hey there.are you a pilot..can you give me the reasons to not be afraid of when we take off...and land ! thanks...I am only 12 and first flight and I really dont want to go..I am soscared i think I may cry :(
im afraid of the whole turbulance thing.....do you knoe how i can get over that fear? i know people say to think like your riding a bus..but that doesn't help me at all....
Hypnosis technique: The fear of flying comes from mentally seeing yourself crash over and over again as you think about flying. Start seeing yourself relaxed in the plane, the turbulence as fun, and arriving safely at your destination. Do that over and over and over again and you should feel fine next time you fly. If you catch yourself thinking of crashing, just switch your thoughts over to seeing yourself as being fine. The more times you do this, the more confident of a flyer you will be.
great video! thanks x this has nothing to do with this but when u had the view and you could see the london eye, i am fine with being that high, but when im actually in the london eye and being at the top, im scared lol x just wondered if anyone else felt the same x
If the engine stops the plane will still be fying because of the speed. It have happens a couple of times in history and in both times the plane managed to land no people were hurt or killed.
Scariest flight I was ever on was a night time flight - NY to Miami as they began the decent we saw the city of Miami and then it disappeared as we got over the Atlantic. The pilot pointed the nose down and it felt like he was gunning it for the water. You couldn't see the dam water because it was so dark. None of the plane's exterior lights were on, no boats in the water to judge our position. The passenger behind me violently shut the shade to his window. I think he was scared too! Freaky! LoL
im a student pilot and I fly in a small prop airplane, i went flying and the winds were at 18-25 mph and that was a really hard time to keep the airplane in control BUT WE DIDN'T FALL OUT OF THE SKY. FLYING IS A COMPLETELY NEUTRAL THING BIRDS FLY ALSO. i was scared of turbulence before but it inst that bad now. MY ADVICE IS TO KEEP CALM AND THE PILOTS NOW WHAT THEY R DOING THEY WONT LET THE PLANE FALL OUT OF THE SKY.
there are 3 danger points with an airliner. the order of danger is take off, cruise and landing. many know take off as a danger point, but many dismiss the cruise as the safest part of the flight. it is not. this is when the outer surfaces are under the most pressure. most airliners are lost at cruise speed and altitude. recently the french airbus in 2009. at altitude seals are prone to fail. there has been no recovery ever of this over 22,000 feet. 56 airliners have been lost at cruise alt.
These things go down, there too big, what if the pilot has a heart attack and dies? whose gonna fly the plane?what if theres not enough gas in the gas tank and your 10 miles up?
@1955porsche lol know this is like 2 months old, but got to say it anyway...
1* if they were too big, they couldnt take off.. 2* if the pilot dies, the co-pilot takes over 3* if there is not enough gas in the tank, they would glide smooth down to a close runway... some airliners actually shut off the engines in mid air, to save some gas. (glides to runway, and turn them on again on approach) that comment was a joke right? hah
its not the fear of flying i'm concerned with , its the fear of crashing into the middle of the atlantic like a 100 ton rock and being vaporized, or an engine falling off and the aircraft cartwheelling 6 miles into the earth below, or the wing snapping off and spiralling into the middle of nowhere,
Emotive talk is one way to maintain a fear of flying. Where is the evidence for what you say? When and why do aircraft cartwheel? None of what you say makes sense to me as an Airline Pilot.
many planes have crashedi nto the sea.But i think he could mean like with all the terrorism stuff u could get some camikaze pilot lol.I`m shit scared of flying, expect for the dentist and my dog and mum dying flying in a plane is my biggest fear.
just like 1955porsche it`s the accidents and stuff that could happen that really scare me.
@Defalto Lol flying is fun i love to fly been on a plane 59 times and its about to be 61 this month. The only fear of flight i have is my mom yelling, screaming and mainly crying in the plane....
@captainkeith1 Hi, im very serious when i say im going to university next year to get my ppl, then hopefully my cpl, i was just wondering is it a good career choice to become an airline pilot. im doing it for the love of flying, not the money.
@1955porsche@1955porsche if a plane crashed into the middle of the atlantic it wouldnt be vaporized but would likely float then sink slowly. if an engine fell off, the only people who would be affected would be the people the engine lands on or near, the plane would continue to glide and be accelerated forward by the other 3 engines. a plane can maintain lift with just 1 engine.
i was afraid of flying for years, i mean absolutely terrified. but once i did a little research..
@h0rangi i felt better about the whole thing. learn about the physics of aviation and the structure of aircrafts, and all about the precautions taken to make absolute certain that there's nothing wrong with your plane and it is in perfect working order.
do you know the chances of a plane going down? what's it? something like 1/52,000,000
much more chance of being struck by lightning at something like 1/2,000,000
are you gonna get struck by lighting? i don't think so.
@h0rangi ah, and P.S. I was only afraid of flying before I actually tried flying. I worried about my first flight for months, sleepless nights and everything.
when i got on the plane I was as calm as a daisy, absolutely fine. when it accelerated to take off i was excited and when it took off it was so cool. actually one of the best experiences of my life.
@1955porsche That's not going to happen. First of all, an aircraft can't go fast enough to the point where it will vaporize. Secondly, an engine has never fallen off before, if it does, it wouldn't cartwheel you'd just have to go back to the airport without an engine. Lastly, again, the wing has never fallen off an aircraft and if it did you would spiral but again this won't happen, there is so many backups to hold down the wings.
@1955porsche well first off why would the plane just crash into the ocean?? if ur at 34,000 feet(about 6-7 miles high) planes are meant to fly, they arent just suspended by unknown forces. second, if an engine does fall off, you got 1 more, which most planes can still fly with, again planes are meant to fly they can glide to the airport with no engine power. third, srsly?? go look at how planes are put together, the wing is NOT going anywhere, they make sure of it!!
@1955porsche You should be more afraid of a drunk driver running off the road and hitting you while you are casually walking down the side walk and pulverizing you. That scenario is much more likely, and under someone else's will.
I'm not afraid of heights alot but when im in a hottel and im in the 20th or 21th floor and i stand next to the window i have this Headache but its ok i can get over it
but i need a help with the airplanes phobia please:(!!
ihave a phobia of airplanes when my family decided to travel at times i refuse to travel with them because of my fear of boarding a plane ;(;(;(;( during the flying i always have this feeling that the plane will crash or there is somethin' bad gonna happen ;(;(
Reading some of these posts really makes me want to help people overcome the fear of flying. As far back as I can remember I have never been scared on an airplane and ive flown countless times in all types of planes, from small Cessnas to the largest being a 747.
Flying makes me feel incredible, the best is when the airplane just lifts off, you feel so free all of a sudden, then you look down from 40,000 feet and all your problems are so far away
You will probably only get this feeling if you're seated behind the wings (the pivot point) of the airplane. In order for the plane to gain altitude, the back section of the plane must naturally be lower than the forward section, so you will "fall" relative to the front.
Planes generally do not just fall. Wither the engines must come to a complete stop (jet-planes can gain altitude with only one engine active) or the plane will have to go into a stall, which is practically impossible today.
God i remember the frist time i went into holding, man it was freeky, the plane (a MD-83) just felt like it stopped in mid air lol the only time ive ever been scared on a flight, ps i LOVE flying
This reminds me when we're about to land in Lisbon and I look out the window and it looks like the plane is slanting drastically or falling to one side. Do you know what I mean? =o
Sure every approach is different, but this is not the 'approach' this is the holding procedure in most ICAO procedures. At least I hope it was having flown them commercially for nearly 30 years!
i think i am more afraid of turbulance than anything else. i went on a trip to new york and we hit Clear Air Turbulance and it was very very scary. since then i am very nervous.
You're a freak, you know that? lol Turbulence isn't fun, it's nothing to be scared of, but it's certainly not fun. I went to Mexico once and the turbulence scared the bejesus out of me. I want my flights to be as smooth as possible, thank you very much.
Thank you very much.I am fortunate in that my audience, that is to say fearful flyers, are normally pleased to be given free support, and are very generous in overlooking my weaknesses in proof reading. However I am sorry that I offended you.
My love of the Bard prompts me to suggest; "One BE or not to BE, that is the problem"
Wow, this video reminds me of all my plane flight experiences.

1955porsche 1 year ago 34
Emotive talk is one way to maintain a fear of flying. Where is the evidence for what you say? When and why do aircraft cartwheel? None of what you say makes sense to me as an Airline Pilot.

@captainkeith1
many planes have crashedi nto the sea.But i think he could mean like with all the terrorism stuff u could get some camikaze pilot lol.I`m shit scared of flying, expect for the dentist and my dog and mum dying flying in a plane is my biggest fear.
just like 1955porsche it`s the accidents and stuff that could happen that really scare me.

@CaptainStriker The average american kid has more chance of becoming the president than perishing in a plane crash

@captainkeith1 I love you for this response. Peoples' imaginations run wild, including my own. I have a fear of flying and hope to conquer it.
Defalto 1 year ago
@Defalto Lol flying is fun i love to fly been on a plane 59 times and its about to be 61 this month. The only fear of flight i have is my mom yelling, screaming and mainly crying in the plane....

@captainkeith1 Hi, im very serious when i say im going to university next year to get my ppl, then hopefully my cpl, i was just wondering is it a good career choice to become an airline pilot. im doing it for the love of flying, not the money.
TheWhiteOwl23 1 year ago
@TheWhiteOwl23 Very good choice in my opinion Keith
captainkeith1 10 months ago
@captainkeith1 surely the idea of a wing snapping off and the plane spiralling makes sense?
Arsenal252 11 months ago
@Arsenal252 Why does it? when did it last happen?
captainkeith1 10 months ago
@1955porsche @1955porsche if a plane crashed into the middle of the atlantic it wouldnt be vaporized but would likely float then sink slowly. if an engine fell off, the only people who would be affected would be the people the engine lands on or near, the plane would continue to glide and be accelerated forward by the other 3 engines. a plane can maintain lift with just 1 engine.
i was afraid of flying for years, i mean absolutely terrified. but once i did a little research..
h0rangi 1 year ago
@h0rangi i felt better about the whole thing. learn about the physics of aviation and the structure of aircrafts, and all about the precautions taken to make absolute certain that there's nothing wrong with your plane and it is in perfect working order.
do you know the chances of a plane going down? what's it? something like 1/52,000,000
much more chance of being struck by lightning at something like 1/2,000,000
are you gonna get struck by lighting? i don't think so.
so stop worrying
h0rangi 1 year ago
@h0rangi ah, and P.S. I was only afraid of flying before I actually tried flying. I worried about my first flight for months, sleepless nights and everything.
when i got on the plane I was as calm as a daisy, absolutely fine. when it accelerated to take off i was excited and when it took off it was so cool. actually one of the best experiences of my life.
i love flying! :)
hope this helps your anxieties
h0rangi 1 year ago
@1955porsche That's not going to happen. First of all, an aircraft can't go fast enough to the point where it will vaporize. Secondly, an engine has never fallen off before, if it does, it wouldn't cartwheel you'd just have to go back to the airport without an engine. Lastly, again, the wing has never fallen off an aircraft and if it did you would spiral but again this won't happen, there is so many backups to hold down the wings.
plane63 1 year ago
@1955porsche well first off why would the plane just crash into the ocean?? if ur at 34,000 feet(about 6-7 miles high) planes are meant to fly, they arent just suspended by unknown forces. second, if an engine does fall off, you got 1 more, which most planes can still fly with, again planes are meant to fly they can glide to the airport with no engine power. third, srsly?? go look at how planes are put together, the wing is NOT going anywhere, they make sure of it!!
8justin88 10 months ago
@1955porsche You should be more afraid of a drunk driver running off the road and hitting you while you are casually walking down the side walk and pulverizing you. That scenario is much more likely, and under someone else's will.

I'm not afraid of heights alot but when im in a hottel and im in the 20th or 21th floor and i stand next to the window i have this Headache but its ok i can get over it

ihave a phobia of airplanes when my family decided to travel at times i refuse to travel with them because of my fear of boarding a plane ;(;(;(;( during the flying i always have this feeling that the plane will crash or there is somethin' bad gonna happen ;(;(
i NEED a Help please!!!!

Reading some of these posts really makes me want to help people overcome the fear of flying. As far back as I can remember I have never been scared on an airplane and ive flown countless times in all types of planes, from small Cessnas to the largest being a 747.
Flying makes me feel incredible, the best is when the airplane just lifts off, you feel so free all of a sudden, then you look down from 40,000 feet and all your problems are so far away

just sit back in the seat and be calm as you can be. flying ain't that bad i went out to las vegas on a plane
georgepal2002 2 years ago
when taking off it feels like the plane is falling how can i overcome this ?
JAH9495 2 years ago 2
You will probably only get this feeling if you're seated behind the wings (the pivot point) of the airplane. In order for the plane to gain altitude, the back section of the plane must naturally be lower than the forward section, so you will "fall" relative to the front.
Planes generally do not just fall. Wither the engines must come to a complete stop (jet-planes can gain altitude with only one engine active) or the plane will have to go into a stall, which is practically impossible today.

Oh and it's also against airline rules to videotape during descent and landing ;)

why ?
GGGunitNextLevel 2 years ago
Does it matter?
111olbap 2 years ago
Yeah I'm curious xD
GGGunitNextLevel 2 years ago
Well, basically the idea is that they don't want you distracted during the 'potentially dangerous' parts of flight.
111olbap 2 years ago
i wonder why when it doesnt bother the radio communications from the pilot to the control....
futurepilot2394 2 years ago
Um... Holding patterns are not 'exactly one minute'. They are to a pre-designated point and back at the airspeed indicated by ATC.
Please don't make things up.
111olbap 2 years ago
I've been flying for 50 years I don't make things up.
ATC do not determine holding speeds...it's a function of aircraft weight. I've been a training pilot since I was 21.

@captainkeith1 Well said dont no anything bout flying but im sure u wouldnt make things up bout serious subject.

you are more likely to die from a car crash on the way to the airport than flying on a plane.

LMAO at the people asking if this is London. Can't you people recognize London Bridge when you see it???

That's tower bridge. If I wanted to see London Bridge, I'd have to go to Arizona.

At least I hope it was having flown them commercially for nearly 30 years!
flyingwithoutfear1 3 years ago
every approach to an airport is different. its not like its going to turn 180 degrees for 1 minute then turn back every time

i think i am more afraid of turbulance than anything else. i went on a trip to new york and we hit Clear Air Turbulance and it was very very scary. since then i am very nervous.
dollywasher 3 years ago
yeah! i love turbulence so much cuz it is so fun! I never scared to be on this airplane..:)
so is that in england or something??

Yes, that's London that you see.

Is it just me but turbulence is fun...every time I fly I hope we get plenty of turbulence. lol

the same here:-)

You're a freak, you know that? lol Turbulence isn't fun, it's nothing to be scared of, but it's certainly not fun. I went to Mexico once and the turbulence scared the bejesus out of me. I want my flights to be as smooth as possible, thank you very much.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I don't understand how people create something permanent for others to see and don't go over their grammar and spelling;
"steers" not "steer"
and "perhaps there will BE interesting views"...you left out the BE
Tressiensia 4 years ago
Check you're English, (eg) He Steers it. I Steer it, Atc Steer It
speedbird007 4 years ago
The grammatic form of ATC in this case is singular, therefore requires steers.
