Then do something: help organize secular homeless shelters, soup kitchens, food drives, clothing drives and when science / secularism takes on those roles you will see less and less of hard-nosed believers. I don't like the "higher ground" issue at all, but religion in the US is a majority and atheism has a LONG way to grow and tearing apart religion is not the way to do it.

Here in the United States, christianity is dying, rapidly, with annual growth at about 3%, while conversely, Reality/Atheism, is growing at over 135% annually. America was 66% christians just 10 years ago, and Atheism was at 6%, but now, christianity is at 60% and Atheism/Reality is at 22%. In just 10 more years, christianity will be the minority. Be Well!

There are a variety of sources, one is bill "The Idiot" o'reilly of fox Comedy news, who reported that Atheism, at the time, four years ago, was growing at 105%, and christianity at 5%, a great thing for Our Country and Our Planet. Some other stastics, from the Census Bureau, 95% of Pedophiles are religious, with 83.5% being chirstians, white male christians. No surprise there. I find it very interesting that non-believers tend to all be on the same page with each other about the way things are and what is right and wrong. But people who call themselves "Christians" all fight amongst themselves and don't stand together at all. If Heaven and Hell are real, and God and Satan are true, don't you think that the enemy (Satan) would do everything in his power to unify those that oppose the truth and tear apart those seeking the truth? @Moonawrathic I can see your point, but in my belief, Satan is barred from interacting with humans and can only do so with God's approval (see the book of Job on that). Now you may say that Satan had discussions with Jesus, but that's not a qualifier because Jesus is God. I think people give Satan too much credit: if anything, to meed him would be astonishing and many of us believe he/it is beautiful, but only on the outside... Also, too: Satan lost his battle when Jesus ascended.

Lewis noted the teachings of Jesus as a whole are the ramblings of a madman, if you do not assume him to be divine. There is not a single shred of evidence to support that claim, which makes Christianity a delusion. Oh, and as for Mother Theresa, inform yourself with the book on her by Christopher Hitchens.

@paolung Okay, so this "book" needs to be understood both by very ancient man-- which did not use books but oratory sermons to preach the Word of God-- and people in 2011 of which many think the Bible was written in English. The Bible is timeless: if it weren't, we would not be debating it today... A major problem I have with atheists and anti-theists (Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, and Christopher Hitchens) is their requirement that God do their bidding. He does not live up to their standards.

Saying the Bible is timeless is irrelevant- it means nothing. The Tao Te Ching is timeless. Iliad is timeless. So what? That adds nothing to their truth-value or validity. Timeless does not mean valid.

They question God's judgement in killing to further His cause. Well, think about it: he was angry enough to kill all but a few in Sodom and Gomorrah and the flood. This was God intervening in human events to carve a path of salvation for mankind through His son, Jesus Christ. I do not expect you to believe this because I respect your view.

@aggienostic Again, the evolution that has occurred in morality is not due to religious revelation but rather secular values taking hold. Women's suffrage, racism, slavery, etc weren't scorned by society because of religious reasons- indeed, (Abrahamic) religion was often used to support such evils (and rightly so because it is the product of ancient barbaric desert goat-herders living in tents). Yes, I question the judgement of any "god" who needs the worship of his creations to feel secure!

" Yes, and the causes of such were thought to be things like demonic possession or "sins of the fathers" or curses from supernatural sources. A lot of people suffered tremendously back in those days (not to take away from suffering today). God could have stopped a lot of suffering even with the germ theory of disease or antiseptic methods, but he ostensibly chose to be "jealous" instead.
