@luyla1 The short answer is that predators keep other animal populations under control. If out of control, they might eat too many plants and throw nature off balance. So where we might not always like predators killing other animals, they do perform a service.
@luyla1 what we benefit is not losing these rare beautiful species of animals forever. we humans have far out outgrown these animals that we share the planet with and it's our responsibility to protect them now.
wow I had never heard of these before. Only saw this video because it showed up as related to something else I was looking it. It does look kind of like a cross between a cat and a wolverine.
and those people deseeve to get tortured for trapping and killing them >:( fucking selfish peaces of shit! they can kill the chicken, ut the fossas can't?! i hope a fossa kills and eats some of those people!
btw, the people that are chopping down trees in their terroy deserve to die for doing that! there's only 2500 of these animals left, so fossa's lifes are worth more then the people on that island.
These neat rare species disappear BECAUSE we are just More & More Numerous (Shamefully...); occupying More & More their Natural-Land, destroying it More & More for farming..., killing it More & More when it has Nothing Left BUT our Farm Stuffs to hunt for...
The ONLY Good-Solution = Human Population-Control !!! (in those Areas where Natural Habitats/Lands are being More & More occupied, destroyed or farmed... (for a Not-Higher Human average intelligence... :S)
I'm interested with this animal. I just saw it being broadcasted on Japan's national TV. The program was entitled Wild Life, a documentary about Madagascar. They featured lots of animal species that lives within the island.
thanks for watching. would love to visit all these places someday. And i thought i would never brake into that top 200 animal market in Algeria. yiippee!!
VERY interesting predator, one of amazing examples of convergent evolution in which genetically distant creatures become remarkably similar in shapes and functions. This creature , like clouded leopards, seems to possess powerful, stocky forearms for its size but may be with a bit longer muzzle(related to the number of teeth) and back than cats of the same size. I believe that arcaic feline species such as Proailurus might have looked exactly like this fossa.
@ballin7077 Thanks. They are in Disney's movie MADAGASCAR which they play the "evil" animals that want to get the lemurs, just like the Lion KIng movie where the Hyenas are the bad guys. We all know in nature the only true "bad guy" are humans and we need to do what we can to keep this planet as balanced and healthy as possible so we and others can enjoy it and its wildlife for centuries to come.
@briczar22 Actually MADAGASCAR was a Dreamworks Animation film, but I think some of the same artists had worked on the film. That's one thing about Hollywood that tends to irritate me, they tend to "demonize" predation ( plus in this film they have "unanthropomorphic" fish; in any films & TV shows I might get to make EVERYTHING will be sentient... whether it shows or not! O_o & I'll try to avoid "demonizing" predation) . & yeah, humans are pretty messed up... trust me, I know this! I AM one!
@VollendJatara9Jenny... ah yes, Dreamworks, since I was in Orlando at the parks (Epcot, Magic Kingdom, and Hollywood studios) just last week, Disney is still in my mind controlling my every thought :)
@VollendJatara9Jenny I wish the fossas had killed that king and his yes man. People did the same to wolves and other predators without realize they are the demons.
FO-SSA. HY-HENA. Sorry, giggled at the pronunciations but great footage to watch, either way.

is that a feline?
44paolo 8 months ago
@44paolo Looks like a feline but is not a feline nor canine and nor hyena.
Is a mongoose in the viverridae family.
Such as Civets, Linsang, Mongoose etc.
Their scientific name is cryptoprocta ferox.
They had a larger cousin known as the giant fossa "Cryptoprocta Spelea"
They are known to be a fearsome predator, extremely agile.
Luke Dollar study them.
They are neither nocturnal nor diurnal.
They are cathemeral means both active at night and at daytime.
They live upto 20 years in captivity.
