This right here is why Nilsson was the greatest Turandot ever. Others could somehow scream their ways through the first aria, even the riddle scene, but this is the moment of truth. Filling out those endless, murderously high-lying lines (and not in the operetta tempi which so many Turandot pretenders need to take) effortlessly dominating a chorus of 80 to 100 people and an enormous orchestra playing at rock-concert decibels - only Nilsson (and after her Dimitrova) could that. No discussion.
