@patryksky I'm sure that's possible and I'm in no way moving towards a carnivorous diet. I eat plenty of plant foods. I would not trust studies on mice for something that is so clearly not what they're designed to eat.

This reminds me of last night's dinner... I ended up having a nice Ribeye - not near the size you had (I have to feed 5 in my house - Five 20oz steaks would mean my son would have to withdraw from university, LOL).
I did mine up on the grill - Quick sear for one minute on both sides than low-and slow on indirect heat until done to a medium level. (I never did like mine rare.)
I also added about 5 cups of Caesar salad (made w/various leafy greens, no croutons) to get the rest of my calories.
@SecretsOfLongevity Caesar salad is my favorite thing to combo with steak. I use not just romaine, but add in lots of various leafy greens.
I found a really nice organic dressing I use, and add some nice nitrate/nitrite-free naturally-cured bacon I get from a local butcher that uses free-range pork, and some freshly-grated parmesan and MMM....
My steak was around 10 oz ... but with 5 cups of salad, was more than enough calories for me. And Y U M .

@adkpinecone Hey estrogen-dominant wanker, listen to the bloody video and the words coming out of my mouth because you clearly missed the bit where I acknowledge the type of cooking I'm using is not the absolute best. Not to mention you are unable to follow a diet for more than a month or two without doing a full 180.
@SecretsOfLongevity I wonder if adkpinecone is aware neither HCA's nor PAH's are actually proven toxic in humans.
Yes, they cause issue with rats - but we all know many things are toxic to rats but NOT to humans.
Lets be honest, billions of people cooking meat, 34 years now we've known of HCA's and looked for links to cancer in humans - none found... There is no evidence of danger to humans.
Also, high-fat/high-water cuts of beef (porterhouse, ribeye, etc.) has fewer HCA's than lean meats...
Also, I personally prefer/absorb/digest better well cooked meat. Since I was 3 years old I'd always ask my parents to cook it longer. We are cooktivores, and I personally believe our digestive system shrunk to accommodate cooked animal flesh and cooked vegetable matter.
did you notice any big muscle mass gains since you went back to meat? also where are the carbs with that steak? i think potatoes should go well, maybe quinoa?
@flex4life I don't eat many carbs. I have not made "huge" gains because I am not bodybuilding anymore. Exercise is the #1 thing that will make you gain weight if you have the diet to back it up, but diet alone will not put on muscle. I do bodyweight training and have maintained my weight and muscle strength and size since stopping my bodybuilding regime from almost a year ago.
@SecretsOfLongevity What about BOILING the beef? I`m concerrn not about vitamin loss or whatever during frying. Boiled meats just digest better to me than fryied.
Hey Zak, thanks for the video. I would like to know what kind of frying pan you use. Is it cast iron ? I'm thinking of buying a new skillet to replace may teflon pan (which is just slow poison imho). What kind of skillet would you suggest : cast iron, iron, stainless steel ?
Is it a serious problem that i've consumed 2 packs since i know the product is quite potent. Also, i'm gonna be 21 in about 2 months, so could i start back up on it in a few months or should i just back off this supplement until i'm much older. Thank you
I just finished reading your article about pine pollen. I've used about 2 bottles of the powder in the past 6 months or so and read that you wrote someone my age (i'm 20) shouldn't take it as it will mess with my hormones. I read that and i got really worried.(cont)
@frnknsns Wtf, are you serious? What other animal drives in cars? What other animal uses flush toilets? What other animal is self aware to the extent that humans are? Daily flossing has been shown to add 5-10 years onto your life expectancy, don't get caught in the "we must do everything that we think is natural" mindset. Most hunter gatherer groups had oral practices that included brushing and scraping the teeth with twigs as well as using fiber similar to how we use floss.
@SecretsOfLongevity The auto industry has destroyed much of this planet...water treatment facilities can't keep up with the demand and raw sewage is regularly discharged into U.S. rivers ( composting toilets are environmentally friendly )...our self awareness has gone backwards for quite some time now...when you eat death, it decays between your teeth - when you eat life, it cleanses between your teeth...no disrespect but "a study" can be found that says whatever you want.
@ZakMartinKilgour I expect I will give you a video response sometime but it seems a bit cowardly for you to change the venue like this...any discussion started on this channel should stay on this channel...of the products/info you sell, what is the item with the highest profit margin ?
@frnknsns You can fuck off if you're going to resort to ad hominem attacks. If I respond to you in video it's to save time. If you make a video response to THIS video on my secrets of longevity channel you'll get a video response from this channel.
@ZakMartinKilgour I don't take any pleasure in seeing your lose your cool like this...I understand it's the meat that fuels your harmful aggression...my highest hope is for you to see improvement in all your relationships...let peace be upon the peaceful
@frnknsns I'm not losing my cool I'm calling you out on your bull shit and giving you a chance to treat me with respect. I am ALWAYS up for calm cool and collected debate, but the moment you bring personal attacks into it we're no longer having a respectful discussion. You're deluded if you think meat is causing me to not take BS on my channel. It's a choice to not let other people disrespect you.
@SecretsOfLongevity for you to claim I have made any kind of attack you must be projecting your own negative motive upon something I have said...again, this reveals an aggression on your part...aggression prompted by fear - fear as a byproduct of the killing you are party to...as you give yourself a few months of being meat-free you'll recognize the difference in yourself...again, no disrespect
@SecretsOfLongevity because I draw attention to what may ( or may not ) have been cowardice on your part doesn't mean I wish you any ill will...at least you haven't deleted me altogether...I'm sure we can stay friends...I spent 48 years consuming animal products and am now in the process of repairing the damage...it's encouraging to see guys like you that at least care about health...rock on ! ( have you stopped by my channel ? )
@frnknsns "because I draw attention to what may ( or may not ) have been cowardice on your part doesn't mean I wish you any ill will"
Regardless that type of statement is still an ad hominem. If a researcher were to write a review in a scientific journal and used that type of languaging they'd be barred from ever writing in again. It's stepping outside of the facts and arguments.
I did have a look at your channel. Best of luck with that tooth!
Thanks for another recipe!, that steak is heavy!!!!, in my opinion that is a massive amount of protein at ounce, probablimpossible to assimilate all of that protein. Is probably about 100 grams of protein in one meal!!! woaa!!
@SecretsOfLongevity The Warrior Diet is another dogma, you can't absorbe well the nutrients of a 1 unic meal.
First, eating one meal at day means eating many diferent foods at ounce, uncompatible foods creates indigestion.
Second, eating one meal means eating less food because is unconfourtable putting 6 lbs of food on our stomach at ounce. So what happen?, we eat less food. And LESS FOOD = LESS NUTRIENTS (this is not the best for longevity).
@HughSirable Although I'm not sold on the warrior diet, eating less food consistently leads to, or is associated with, increased longevity and health. You of course don't have to be doing the warrior diet to simply eat less. I think the warrior diet and regular fasting can have some negative effects on thyroid and adrenal health.
if you watch chefs they say your supposed to lay the steak in the pan gently rather than slap it down not sure why maybe try/look into it ? nice video nicer steak
@mrace84 And you're supposed to hold white wine by the stem of the glass and never touch the "cup part" because the heat from your fingertips will alter the flavour of the wine...
Hi Zak, thanks for sharing this video, very useful information. You have such great ideas... Have a wonderful New Year of the Dragon - Please feel free to check out some of my vids, your very welcome to...
Yay for purslane! <3 It's so delicious and useful, considering it's a common invasive garden weed. Rather than frying meats and fish in lard or other oil, I prefer sautéeing in a cast iron frying pan containing shallow gently boiling water and herbs. What's your opinion on that method? I prefer it because it prevents carbonization, ensures the meat is super tender when cooked more than rare, and also adds marginally less calories to the meal than oil does.
@pragmatica It's a great method for many types of meat, but I'd never ruin a steak with it ;p To minimize the carbonization etc I could have just not added the maple syrup which is totally what set off my smoke alarm :p But yeah fish and other things do well with a bit of water in the pan!
zac. just for further credibility, you should do a video detailing your 180 food paradigm and how you came to be doing so much of the opposite. I've been following your vids for a few years now and I can only think of you off handely mentioning not feeling well working out. then you are suddenly talking about WAP based (not all, but a fair amount) info (which I tend to support, btw) and eating raw liver (which I do on occasion).
@SecretsOfLongevity do you mean that really long one about dairy (which I appreaciate, au fait)? can you give me a few links, cos i looked at your archive and it's not clear to me.
Great recipe Zak. Mmm, delish! I like to use SWEET onions. When looking for a good sweet onion, always look for the females. A female onion will be short, and stubby, almost looks like a fat belly. Males are the spicy ones. Marinating with Tamari does wonders! :-) Also, to reduce the carcinogens from the charred or blackened parts of the meat, you can use things like berries or fruit-based marinades for protection against that lipid peroxidation. Great for burgers for example. Cheers!
Epic ending with the profanity and slow motion. Thanks for the recipe. I can't wait for my cast iron cookware to arrive so that I can improve my cooking.
@keithlmh get the old (and I mean OLD) cast iron cookware, if you can find it out there ... used to be able to find the stuff on the cheap at flea markets and such, but now people tend to know more about the worth of this amazing cookware --- the iron ore used back then (1800s - 1960s) was MUCH, much higher quality than the cast iron you can buy today ... You can see the difference, the old iron is shiny and smooth like glass, and it really is nonstick. The new stuff is much more crude
@fringedlunatic613 Ok thanks, good to know. Do you know if Lehman's has good Cast Iron? That's where I ordered it from. They are an online amish type store.
I also heard that Titanium cookware was naturally nonstick and durable even though it's really lightweight.
Looks good man! Lately, i've been experimenting with grass fed meats and different sauces. My favorite meal now, that i actually consume for breakfast often (since that is my biggest meal of the day and i don't eat much later on in the days beside vegetables and herbal teas) is ground goat meat (from my local farmer) simmered slightly with himalayan sea salt and raw honey. I cook it in goat butter as well, sometimes coconut oil to give even more flavor. Sounds gross, but is amazing!
@patryksky Read this debate between Cordain and Campbell and you might just change your stance on that. Cordain quotes like 160-200 studies whereas Campbell comes up with a measly 3 to back himself up: crossfitcoronado.typepad .c om/files/proteindebate.pdf
@Dabeydoo62 I don't subscribe to that baseless belief system, and technically I eat more rajasic foods. No offense to anyone of Indian decent but culturally they have one of the lowest average testosterone levels of any race. This can be changed with diet but it's also partly genetic from generation after generation of depleting and nutritionally sparse foods like grains and lentils.
@SecretsOfLongevity testosterone never got anyone anywhere....well maybe it did in northern europe before the invention of central heating and air but now all we really need is what are body produces on its own. majority of people in India stopped eating red meat long ago due to the climate. if you practice ayurvedic principle of eating sattvic and avoiding tamasic, rajasic your yoga practice and meditation will greatly improve. key word- moderation.
@Dabeydoo62 Actually testosterone get's EVERYone EVERYwhere. You clearly don't watch my videos. Check my past videos for references to testosterone reducing one's risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, alzheimers and premature death of virtually every chronic disease. MY yoga and meditation practice IMPROVED when I began eating meat and I meditate for over an hour a day. These Ayurvedic principles are a BELIEF system. The majority of people in India have terrible life expectancy.
@SecretsOfLongevity if you think YOUR yoga and meditation IMPROVED when you began eating meat and other TAMASIC substances you have a peculiar BELIEF system. MAYBE testosterone reduces risk for heart disease and the other things you mentioned...I don't know. Jury is still out. I could give you studies that refute you But I do know that the only way to improve body, mind, and soul is to abstain from the things you have been eating.
@SecretsOfLongevity Plus- the people in India with terrible life expectancy are the ones living in poverty as well as the people that eat an AVERAGE diet. Okay they probably dont eat beef or pork but they do eat plenty of chicken, fish, goat, and lamb and lots of garlic, onions, and oils. go to ANY ASHRAM in India where the inhabitants practice Sattvic diet (like I do) you'll be sure to find a couple or three people passed the age of 100.
@Mitchell9oh5 Don't watch his videos anymore for the same reason I don't watch Matt's. Check out the last video I posted and substitute his name in anywhere I said "Matt" and that's what I would say in another video specifically about him.
That looks fantastic! Damn, I'm going to have to get a steak soon, it has been too long. One small nit-pick because I'm a nutrition geek: lard actually has the same amount of polyunsaturated fat as olive oil, although more saturated fat so it is more stable. I cook with grass-fed beef tallow which has the least of any animal fat. Or coconut oil sometimes but I don't like the taste. Cheers.
damn dude, that looks good. I just want to know how we can make sure that the animals are slaughtered humanely? but ya I gotta get some beef because I lost so much vitality due to my crappy raw vegan diet.
The Taoist Grandmaster Ni Hua Ching recommends only eating small animals such as lamb :)

zac. just for further credibility, you should do a video detailing your 180 food paradigm and how you came to be doing so much of the opposite. I've been following your vids for a few years now and I can only think of you off handely mentioning not feeling well working out. then you are suddenly talking about WAP based (not all, but a fair amount) info (which I tend to support, btw) and eating raw liver (which I do on occasion).

@ThomasDeanNordlum I did do a few videos about that last spring when I stopped gthe bodybuilding from not feeling well.

Cheers!

@fringedlunatic613 Cool, never thought about fruit marinades, sounds tasty!

Epic ending with the profanity and slow motion. Thanks for the recipe. I can't wait for my cast iron cookware to arrive so that I can improve my cooking.
keithlmh 3 weeks ago
@keithlmh get the old (and I mean OLD) cast iron cookware, if you can find it out there ... used to be able to find the stuff on the cheap at flea markets and such, but now people tend to know more about the worth of this amazing cookware --- the iron ore used back then (1800s - 1960s) was MUCH, much higher quality than the cast iron you can buy today ... You can see the difference, the old iron is shiny and smooth like glass, and it really is nonstick. The new stuff is much more crude
fringedlunatic613 3 weeks ago

I currently prefer to eat lean red meat with raw butter. I have a feeling that a high protein diet ages people the fastest.

@patryksky Read this debate between Cordain and Campbell and you might just change your stance on that. Cordain quotes like 160-200 studies whereas Campbell comes up with a measly 3 to back himself up: crossfitcoronado.typepad .c om/files/proteindebate.pdf

so you like mostly TAMASIC foods?
Dabeydoo62 3 weeks ago
@Dabeydoo62 I don't subscribe to that baseless belief system, and technically I eat more rajasic foods. No offense to anyone of Indian decent but culturally they have one of the lowest average testosterone levels of any race. This can be changed with diet but it's also partly genetic from generation after generation of depleting and nutritionally sparse foods like grains and lentils.

@SecretsOfLongevity drop that ownage truth bomb, Longevity style! hehe ;P

Dabeydoo62 3 weeks ago
@Dabeydoo62 Actually testosterone get's EVERYone EVERYwhere. You clearly don't watch my videos. Check my past videos for references to testosterone reducing one's risk for heart disease, diabetes, cancer, depression, alzheimers and premature death of virtually every chronic disease. MY yoga and meditation practice IMPROVED when I began eating meat and I meditate for over an hour a day. These Ayurvedic principles are a BELIEF system. The majority of people in India have terrible life expectancy.
SecretsOfLongevity 3 weeks ago
@SecretsOfLongevity if you think YOUR yoga and meditation IMPROVED when you began eating meat and other TAMASIC substances you have a peculiar BELIEF system. MAYBE testosterone reduces risk for heart disease and the other things you mentioned...I don't know. Jury is still out. I could give you studies that refute you But I do know that the only way to improve body, mind, and soul is to abstain from the things you have been eating.
Dabeydoo62 3 weeks ago
