through all the shows and manga i ever found it never said what happened to parn and deedlit. I always hoped that the gods gave parn the elves long life so they could be together. would have been a great ending to the series.
Ah, yes, Parn and Deed's Crowning Moment of Heartwarming. Possibly my favorite scene in the OAV. This, far more than fighting shooting star, is where Parn finally, definitively ceases to be a loser and becomes the Free Knight everyone admires in the later TV series -- even if it's not part of the same continuity.
My one quibble here is that you posted the dub instead of he original Japanese; I never cared much for Deed's. Too "Valley Girl;" she should have had a British accent, I think.
I agree in general, however because it's high fantasy I think various British or European accents would have suited Lodoss better than American ones. I always tend to think of dwarves as germanic or norse, and elves as either upper-class British or a lilting Irish brogue. For the dark elves, maybe a slavic accent. Lisa Ortiz sounds like she comes from the San Fernando valley; she can't seem to disguise it, regardless of her role.... (to be continued)
It's fine for playing the ditzy Hanner twins or the spoiled princess Azalyn in "The Irresponsible Captain Tylor;" it works great for the catty, bratty Shiori Takatsuki in Shoujo Kakumei Utena, and I imagine it's fine for Lina Inverse (I've never watched the dubbed version of Slayers, and only seen a bit of it in the original Japanese), but it just doesn't fit the persona of the often aloof, dangerously competent high elven swordswoman/shaman.
I don't really get what you guys are talking about - That's just how Deed and Parn's relationship is, and they both it accept it that way. It doesn't have to be mushy gushy every second, because as you can see like this scene here, they have little AND big moments. Parn obviously cares about Deedlit to the point of no return - the highlight of that is when she's taken away. He wasn't thinking about Lodoss, he was thinking about Deedlit. He physically shows his care better than verbally.
At first your comment made me irritated. Then I realized you're kinda right, but OAV only. The first episode "Prelude" or prologue, he was very short-tempered and harsh to her. Then the infamous dance scene, where he keeps ignoring her for Kashue. Last, the end of the show, he was actually going to leave Lodoss without her! Deed deserves someone better.
The part where he was ignoring deedlit while staring at king Kashew was hirarious though.
I don't want a main character that is perfect if he were I'ld hate him too. It's the imperfections and sometimes cluelessness that makes them more fun to watch. Besides he always pulled through when he was needed.
One idea implied by this series is that King Kashue is Parn's long lost father. This would explain Parn's fascination with Kashue, and Kashue's kind attitude toward Parn. Kashue is drawn like Parn's father, who we only see in blurry images, and the disappearance of Parn's father seems to coincide well with the emergence of Kashue of a warrior king. And, at the end of the series, Kashue gives Parn a sword which matches his armor perfectly.
Honestly, do you believe that people can grow and mature? This scene was after Parn witnessed Ashram first death in the volcano of Shooting Star with a dead Pirotess in his arms. He realized he was taking his time with Deedlit and her love for granted, and it pained him so. That rose represent a thank you, an apology, and I love you too. That is why he was willing to die for her in the end from freeing her from Kardis with both the demon and King Fahn swords in his hands. He's growing up.
Well of this anime there are two seires the OVA has 13 and the Cronicals of the heroic Knight has about 27-30. Also this is one of my favouriet seens from ROLW OVA and this is still my favouriet anime after all these years

@fader2011 1) english accents rarely work in anime (save, maybe for Clash of the Bionoids), 2) how are you going to knock Lisa Ortiz?

Yeay thats right,
give a ripped of flower to a ghost of nature and stuff. xD
Elves are natural ghosts or something, originally. ^^
And even in the fantasieworlds, they love nature. xD

What is this thing with a white rose? Is this a symbol for something or just a gift?
altarush 3 years ago
Because He loves her.
hurgar 3 years ago 7
roses mean different things: red is love, yellow is friendship, orange is desire, white is purity or innocence (but when in a bouquet it means unity).
Maybe Parn gave her the white rose because that's what she is to him. It might also represent the love he feels for her.
ROMANTIC, NE?! lol ^^

There are no seasons in RoLW. There is 13episode OVA which is made on the base of manga and yes on the beginning Parn learn how to fight.
Second series is 26episode TV which is other storyline.
