  • Great accent, and a good rendition!

  • OH yeah! XD this is the best

  • "Best Musical Theatre Composer"? Really?

  • My favourite song!!

  • I'm actually partial to Colm Wilkinson's version. I believe he was the one who played Che in the original concept album. The lyrics are a little different in that one as I recall. I'll have to dig it up.

  • @JonBStrickland He did, you can find the concert version on youtube. It' absolutely amazing!

  • Is there a David Essex version with "Sing, you fools, but you've got it wrong," etc.?

  • No one; and I mean NO ONE- does or (sings) a better Che than Mandy Patinkin in the Broadway musical. I can see what D. Essex is trying to do here; good effort. This more modern version will keep the youngsters' feet tapping. But it does not even COMPARE to Mandy Patinkin on this song too.

  • @craig7233 what do you mean "the more modern version"? David Essex was the original Che in London, to Elaine Paige's Eva. This version was released as a single when EVITA premiered in London in 1978, preceding Mandy's Che by a year.

  • @craig7233 More Modern? Essex did this in 1978?

  • david essex at the top of his game here brilliant version

  • It should go "exules filii Evae", which means "banished children of Eve".

Pity they made a grammar error in such a great song!

  • Best version of this song right here by david essex - antonio b is poor by comparison - made some good films mind.

  • @whitejmw - Mandy Patinkin kills this song. Look him up. He played Inigo Montoya. You killed his father. Prepare to die.

  • i just love this. thr, original of evrything is always whatwe seek out. Before face book anyhow. lol.x

  • Amazing song

  • sorry cd

  • the cover of dvd is black. just the same of the picture.

  • just great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!in few days time i will attend it in Athens Greece!!!I remember the agony i had in NYC when i tried to find the DVD!!!

  • I love this musical, it's for the most part a very accurate portrayal of the Perons, but I have 2 major problems with it.

    1. It gives Eva too much credit for Argentina's downfall, and Juan too little. Juan was the politician, Eva just followed him.

    2. Che as narrator. The real Che wasn't much better than the Perons. He may have started on a good path, but power corrupted him and he was just another tin pot dictator in the end. TBC

  • @evaperonwasbad I would have preferred one of Eva and Juan's victims to comment on their rise and fall. I've researched all three of them, but no one has to agree with me. Just stating my opinion. Free speech, you know?

  • @evaperonwasbad Eva didn't just follow Peron. IN fact, I don't think EVITA gives Eva much credit. According to the musical, she becomes first lady, takes a European vacation, starts her foundation, considers the vice presidency, then dies. The real Eva became active in politics, eventually becoming the de facto vice president.. She also started the women's branch of the Peronist Party, and was the head of the CGT, the labor federation. None of this is mentioned in EVITA.

  • My school is doing this and where using a recording where Che is this really posh-sounding operatic tenor and I can't seem to find anyone like that doing this on here would anyone here know who that is?

  • @leldoryn

Is the cover of the CD a red colour?

If it is, its the 2006 recording, and the Che in that sounds really posh.

  • tim rics also did it with him!

    he did it with andrew

  • i was in this show!

    it was so fun

  • @becca21AKApandapig

    Really? What did you do?

  • there was only one song added to Evita when it was decided to make a film of it.

Madonna requested there be one more song for her.

    Rice and Lloyd Webber, Thanks!

  • why do some verses have the part about "sing, you fools, but you've got it wrong" and some don't?

  • @AngelOfMusic144 censorship. In the movie, they had to make it more favorable to Eva to film it in Argentina.

  • LMAO!!! You really know fuck all, don't you? I suppose you could do better?

  • There are a few different tunes. But quite a few are variants of this one.

  • My school is doing Evita for our fall musical :D

    It is a win.

  • my school did it 2 years ago its great!

  • Good luck, its the most complicated musical I have ever seen.

    Politics!!! D:

  • @kjshi7 For this song David Essex is the best.

  • Iam in love with this song since I heard it back in 1980's

  • why is there no clips of this movie like the danceing and the music you see in the movie?

  • Because it's a track from the CD, I believe.

  • because this was on stage in England long before it was made into a film. the original actors were not in the film with Madonna

  • True, true, Andrew Lloyd Webber is the best musical composer :]

  • I saw this last night, but I can't find the music anywhere!!

  • i love it

  • This concept album is still the best version of evita ever :)

  • I'm so glad the Ché sounded exactly like David Essex in the production I saw recently.

This song is probably my favourite from the musical. I could listen to this for hours haha.

  • I saw it last night - was he played by Seamus? Unfortunately he was substituted but it was still great!

  • this leaves out two verse's by Ché

the "sing you fools!" verse and the "now who am I?" one that comes in the middle of that one. It's still good though

  • David Essex is a British pop/rock star, one of the most successful of the 1970s/early 1980s. He took "Oh What A Circus" to number 3 in the UK charts in 1978. His ten UK top ten hits include 2 number ones, 1 number two and 2 number threes. Before your time?

  • Este el autentico temazo del original. Banderas lo destrozó.

  • You`r absolutly right it`s pain to listen to this but it`s not Banderas who`s singing this.....

  • see my post!

  • OMG This is David Essex you divvy with the original performance!!! He's a legend!! Banderas was not born to sing!!!!

  • I don't agree! He may not have the most wonderful voice in the world, but I think it really fits the character. :)

  • ALW IS GOD!

  • I love David Essex's vocal on this :)

  • The tune is just a speeded up version of "Don't cry for me Argentina". You can really hear it at the bit "But who is this santa Evita".

  • yeah but its common to do that in musicals- use the same tune all the way through- like in phantom

  • new beat that's for sure. I DO like the way they re harmonized the beginning. excellent

  • This is not the original 1978 original london cast concept album, is just a song based on a song

  • Love the song xD

  • Yea I think the part at the end is the best.

  • 'man' is 'Che Guevara'.

  • agree

  • O.o; I like the movie version better, and the Broadway version. >_>

  • ALW is good alright, and nobody is totally bad,so don't be so judgemental.

  • let e without sin cast the first stone. It is amazing how judgemental people are. It is important to look at history within its context and objectively. Unless you were present and know every single detail you will be making skewed judgements

  • ooookkkkkk

  • Eva Peron was a better person than that murderer Che Guevara. Che was no hero, he was a cold blooded killer.

  • I take it you knew him personally ?

  • Bull shit, he was a patriot

  • Based on all the available (English) CD versions of Evita...Antonia Banderas is the best Che, in my opinion.

  • ^ I meant to write "Antonio"

    :P

  • Mandy Patinkin is better, but this instrumentation and chorus work is awesome!

  • David Essex is no Mandy Patinkin. Truncated range of emotion in Essex's voice / performance.

  • Sorry!! I did not mean to hit thumbs down. I ment to reply.

I would say he is pretty good.

  • i like ALW. don't get me wrong. but best EVER? he's A personal favorite, but when it comes down to sheer skill, no. not really.

  • i add a plea for this clip to fuzzie123's

david essex as che was probably the most wonderful thing that happened in britain in the 70s. that video with all the candles....

  • does anyoneone has the clip of this???

I`m looking for it for years

  • Great!!!!!!!!!

  • ilike it

  • I'm from Argentina...

For ever i remember! for ever in our heart!

    Olvidarte no podrán-Patricia Sosa

  • who evita? your surley not talking about a facist dicator who did nothiing for her people

  • With all due respect ... Maria Eva Duarte of Peron did much to Argentina, while she was alive and was not interested, not to money, ARGENTINA currently suffers from serious social crises. EVITA TODAY AND ALWAYS ...

  • ok explain me this. how come so much of the country was worst off when sh died. Che guvara was in the aftermath of her monstrosity and look how andry he was all the time! anyway take away the facts add singing and romanticise about a monster and there you have evita.

  • i wrote a email for you... replied me please.

  • Che guevara never met Eva Peron. Don't take the musical as a history lesson. She did a lot of good for women and the working classes. The musical is about as accurate as the tabloids you see waiting to check out in the grocery store

  • THE MUSICAL IS ACCURATE... very much so... yes Evita did do a lot of good, but the musical focuses on the means not the ends which didn't match. if you look at the facts that weren't altered by the peronists you would know that eva did do any of the things that are presented in the show... like sleep around to get up in the business. She had good intentions and did good but how she did them werent in the best ways.

  • what biographies have you read? Just curious.

  • and furthermore the character of Che is not a direct representative of Guevera, he represents those that share his sentiments. He's more of a narrator than anything else, which is why he keeps appearing as several random different characters... none of which are the actual guevera.

  • i thought that according to the christians everyone was born in sin, no matter what the mother did. and she did do good for the people. it's sort of hard in this world to do good to everyone and to completely avoid doing anything bad. sort of hard, if not altogether impossible.

  • You think you are so right but in thinking your doing the right thing you are pushing yourself father away from your goal and you call yourself a christian in god you understand no one least of all yourself

  • i agree! she is the best!

  • This year 2oo7 i went to the southend air show and we got there very early e.g. 7.30 to get a parking space, (the show didnt start till half one) Essex radio were there playing music over the various tannoys set up. It was grey and dark and pouring of rain and this song came on, i stopped in my tracks and realised that this record was a masterpiece.

  • love Evita....what a circus in deed.....
