  • lol,hes house is full of bikes now :P

  • He's not a very good bike thief :p takes too long :D

  • now try with next WITH SOMEONE WHO'S NOT WHITE

  • I can asure everyone that read this, If i saw someone cut a lock to a bike i will beat his ass for you.

  • Man everyone just watches it happen... Those must have been the same assholes present when my bike got stolen. God damn pussies.

  • for everyone who is going to steal shit.. steal from the rich people.. not the middleclass/poor people..

  • Comment removed

  • Music name please:)

  • Who saw that gay black buy strutting his stuff walking like a queen 1:23

  • yea its cuz your white

  • I've seen it in another video, bystanders will actually HELP you steal bikes!!

  • steal from the rich, protect the poor.

  • He was lucky that I wasnt there. I am communist, and I dont like people taking what doesnt belong to them.

  • crazy can't believe some random bloke helped you, lol classic!

  • whataJoke

  • go around and steal 7 other peoples bikes and take it.

Now worries about an angry owner showing up to kick your time wasting ass. "Is this your bike?" "yea fuck off"" see how easy that was?

people go crazy when they catch a bike thief on there own bike. be funny if someone grabbed his bike first, it was a crap bike tho. No one would steal something they can not sell.

  • they are all the same bike he is fake

  • thats the idea!! he is stealing his own bike to demonstrate that the public do nothing to stop some blatantly committing a crime

  • @phatboynjb It's his own bike it was a test to see if somebody would stop him, or question him...

  • whats the tool hes using called?

  • why you still shit too?

  • why you steal shit too?

  • LOL no theres alot of badass dirt feilds with small marked trails around my house that i would love to ride, to bad theres a chain locking the gate

  • ohh... lol damn that sucks, they always have some cool trails and jumps that always have a private property sign by them it pisses me off but it doesnt stop me haha, i take my dirtbike behind there and there was another one that was chained off with these big ass jumps i couldnt get into that one haha

  • and the part that pisses me off is that nothing will happen if i get caught, there are no signs on the gate of private propertey or no trespassing theres only one that says no dumping which probably means its public ahh!!!

  • @pb4evr bolt cutter

  • wth the ending LOL he helped him XDDDD

  • Audacity is the game here, I don't think anyone could believe that someone would theif it that "slow" or that open.

Also there is a bike bottle on there... how many people leave their bottle? It looks like he has returned, put his bottle back, and then tried to crack it.

Still, it's funny how people "ignore it".

The end part is more funny, with the hood up etc, but he gets help this time, lol.

  • lol @ gay black man

  • hes white! who's going to say anything! just looks like he lost his keys. put a black man then the whole thing changes! you will probably even see those same people hitting him and calling the cops

  • Unless hes Micheal Jackson^^.

Nah dude, we should all stop even talking about black and white we should just talk about humans.

  • Another thing, he did not look suspicious at all..looked like he forgot his key, so it looked exactly like what the video said "He was stealing his own bike." I wouldn't have thought anything weird about it either! So this video is really pointless...

  • ya but noone knew it was really his bike he could have lied

  • there's really nothing people can do. he's an innocent-looking white guy in the middle of the day. all he has to say is that he forgot his key, and any citizen would probably not protest. and even if they did, there's no way to prove it unless the citizen watched someone else park it... or unless it was a black guy... lol

  • ive stole bikes and the best way is with bolt cutters and if theres a bike out side a shop pick it up and ride of and im only 14 and im probaly the best than him and he takes to long

  • what size boltcutters ? i have my eye on some and theres a couple of size tools

  • you asshole

  • Fuck you. Bike thieves should die in a large, hot fire. What gives you the right to steal from someone else you worthless waste-of-fucking skin? Your mother should have a retroactive abortion. Fuck you.

  • If I catch you stealing a bike I'll beat the living shit out of you and make you wish you were dead.

  • if you noticed it was the same bike every time

it even had the same water bottel

  • read the description dumb ass. it says its his own bike everytime...

  • read description

  • yeah no shit, he's stealing his own bike. read the description next time.

  • Gotta love how people just watch and laugh...or help steal the bike...

  • Yeah. It's a good thing, then, that thieves typically are big black guys wearing t-shirts that read, "Nigga on Crack!" and shout, "I'm stealing this fucking bike!" as they steal bicycles. People were looking at this guy and felt uninterested in even calling the police. Grade "A" citizenry.

  • wow........today's society is pathetic.

  • it's hilarious that the dude at the end helped him.

  • that sux

  • Here, your doing it wrong, lemme do it for you.

  • I think we need a remake of this video, but with a black guy stealing his own bike. Maybe we'll see different reactions from bystanders :o

  • Sad world we live in. No one cares unless your stealing their property.

  • people would just assume he lost the key.....

  • You guys who are saying "yeah, That's not Stealing" are idiots.

Really? C'mon are you that dense? Of course it;s not stealing if you're doing it to your own bike, but how do thoes people know it's not your bike? When he says "stealing" he means he's playing the part of a person stealing someone elses bike. Your comments about him not "stealing" the bike is irrelivent. Read the notes idiots.

Well that's my rant, nice vid =D

  • this is because of two psycological effect. The diffusion of responsibility and the sheep effect. eg of difusion of responsibility is,if you see a person drowning and you are a good swimmer, you would jump down even though you are wearing branded goods. However if around the drowning place there are a lot of people, people will hope that other people would take action. The sheep effect is the ability that the human follow what other people do.They would think,if other dont bother, why should i?

  • lol white people dont steal! its obvious people wont call the cops or try to stop him

  • hahaha! Nice!! 5 stars!!

  • yaa it isn't stealing but it goes to show how much people care or how dum they are

in response: the concept of stealing is when you're taking something that is not yours. its ironic to think that you can steal something that belongs to you. you're not stealing whatsoever. i think if you had the courage to steal, then it would look real, then people would react

you're trying to imply something that is not happening. Your assumptions are not realistic

  • abelgiancarlo i think that your assumptions are also not realistic.

firstly you said,i think if you had the courage to steal, then it would look real, then people would react

however i think that is not the case, countless cases of bicycles stolen cases are happening in crowded areas. If your assumptions is correct, why are there so many bike stealing cases in crowded area? And it is child play for a experience bike stealer to act *natural* when he is stealing bicycle

  • sorry dude, wasnt my intention to negativate you.

  • that black guy in the first place he stole it looks SO DAMN GAYY! haha

  • its not stealing when its your own bike.

  • yaa it isn't stealing but it goes to show how much people care or how dum they are

  • It seems really hard to operate bolt cutters. I always thought it'd just go straight through anything.

  • Of course no one will think of you stealing a bike when you got the biggest bolt cutters available. Try doing it with a small pair of bolt cutters then you will get attention.

  • hurry the fuck up and get out dude !!!! AAAA!!!

  • dude, where's my bike? :p

  • that dude's obvisouly black.

  • He'd get busted in no time if he wasn't a white dude

  • I guess ... but that's why he's doing it right? :)

  • No one stops you because they can't prove it's not yours, so why bother. The guy could just claim he lost his key or combo, and no one can do anything.

  • exactly.

added to the fact that noone really cares.

  • its crazy to think how easy it is to rip a bike.

  • The trick is to take your front wheel; sit down at Starbucks with your own muddy shit stained wheel! You make it less fun for the crook to ride away. Ya might loose a date dancing with wheel in hand, but it's better than walking home.

  • I can't believe this. Everyone who have recorded themselves and published here on youtube and steal a bike, it's obviously staged, but they only do cut tiny or thin chains. Actual chains that I wouldn't lock my bike with in real life. Why dont they demonstrate how to steal a bike with a kryptonite lock vs. boltcutter.

  • You can defeat a kryptonite lock with a drinking straw. Seriously.

  • Im guessing while writing that little wall of text you missed the part where it said he was stealing his own bike.

  • Thats easy

  • You know you just admitting to a crime and can get put into jail for it right? You are one smart mother trucker

  • You are a dumb ignorant retard.

  • Admitting to what crime? No, he cannot be put in jail for calling himself a bike thief because he has admitted to no specific recorded crime, and thus there is nothing pointing him to an incident.

He might not be one smart motherfucker but neither are you very deductive.

  • He said he is a bike thief, which in return means he is a dumbass.

  • ha ha who steals a mountain bike

the bmx ones cost and are worth more

    !!

  • lol pick your most expensive bmx and ill pick my most expensive mt bike...ill put you to shame on the price...actually, just check out foes fxr...2000 just for the frame...all built up, its 6500 at one local bike shop...

  • look up the S&M Menstral cycle, the stem alone sells for 600

  • couldn't find it. but there's no way a bmx bike can be more expensive than a moutain bike, the technology alone in a mt bike will make it cost more. even just with a hardtail. bmx bikes dont have suspensions...i dont know how much the most expensive bmx bike is but say, just an all mountain mt bike, not a downhill, can cost up to 5000 dollars...sometimes more, depending on the components.

  • im not saying your wrong i like to mtn bike to as well as bmx but im just saying in rare instences a bmx may cost more. but most of these are bikes from the 80s or are rarer than others such as the menstral cycle.

  • lol there's no way a bmx will cost more than a mountain bike, no matter how "rare" the instance is...if you compare highest end model and parts for both, it's just impossible...

  • SWorks Specialized Enduro SL is $7700. Specialized SWorks Transition is $8500. Ellsworth Truth, $10k +. Now, show me your most expensive BMX?

  • i knew you wer fakn'. why?

    1. a pro bike thief would never take that long to cut a chain

    2. a pro bike thief would never waste time stealing a crappy bike like that!

    funny vid tho

  • I must admit and I would have to see him live to back this up, that he appears to be doing nothing wrong. This is because he is not. He does not know how to fake the signs of guilt a casual bike thief may display.

If i saw him doing this and asked him why he was stealing the bike just to get his reaction and he said "It's mine, I lost the key to this fucking lock" what could one do anyway?

  • everybody knows that was his own bike

  • thats just plain WRONG

  • if he were black and in texas this video would be much shorter

  • I like the rocking music , kick ass .

  • why people dont react:

    1. It looks like he owns, that bike (he doesn't look like a crazed meth head..)

    2. he is very confident and open about what he's doing (meth/crack heads, try to look inconspicous)

    3. Its early in the day, way to early for crackheads to be out stealing bikes....

    * try making it look more legit... ! then see what the reaction is..

  • So what's the point here? portlanders mind their own business, unless they perceive someone as needing help. This guy is so obvious about cutting the chain that you'd have to assume it's his bike. This is typical WW shit-starting--trying to make an issue where there isn't one.

  • you cant do it like that visually stupid here in the philippines, people wont call a police ok but they'll beat you black and blue, ha ha ha

  • This is an important social document. And you know what's even more revealing than the video? The mitigating excuses that people make in their self-justifying comments about it.

  • did anyone recognize that he is stealing the same bike that is probably his with that same bike and water bottle but probabaly a diiferent chain

  • Willamette Week intern Josh Silverman stole """"his own bike"""" from seven public place around Portland on Aug. 16. (more)

    Dumbfuck, read and learn Fishbuster32

  • You should do this again and look around a lot like an actual nervous person who doesn't know who's bike they are stealing & could come up at any time. see what reactions you get then...

  • Yeah but how do you know that most people aren't thinking, oh he lost the key or forgot the combination? I'm sure it happens.

  • If i do that in portugal, and the peolpe see me,they kick my ass!!1

  • in denmark this was never happend we help each other thogether we are not like thises noobs

  • Well It is because silverman is a white boy. Maybe I should go and try and pull this off. He He Just got me an Idea.

  • Who the fuck is going to risk getting beaten down with a bike chain to stop someone from stealing someone else's bike? Just like a lot of stores are teaching employees "don't mess with shoplifters or they'll shoot you. Just get video and give it to the cops".

What I want to know is how many people filmed him.

On the other hand, I have, in a jar, the left testicle of a guy who tried to steal MY bike. (just kidding. well, MAYBE not)

  • If ANYBODY comes across a guy trying to break a lock there is something you can do to test if its his bike.

Walk up to him and with an angry face and tone hell, WTF are you doing. Trying to STEAL MY BIKE. If he claims its his bike say STFU you theif and say your phoning the police and then pull out your phone. At this point a real theif will run away (or kill you heh)

  • i farted in silverman's face.

  • I Live In Portland, & If You Want Your Bike To Get Jacked Then Come Move To Portland, WELCOME NEW COMERS BEWARE

  • I'd rather live there and the worst I usually have to worry about is my bike getting stolen versus other places where you worry about mugging, rape, assault, murder, etc...

  • Yes, I saw the Same video from NY. Anyway who uses a BIG Chain anyway? was that so you could do it 7x? Boring and the music? Get some 50cent, um be creative.

  • Fity cent can sucka my balls

  • everyone could probably tell it was his bike cuz he had a dinky chain and not a real bike lock like everyone else here - stupid waste of a day wow

  • i live there

  • Whats funny is, I had something like this happen to me. Had a so-so mountainbike chained to a light post in downtown portland. Had this nifty braided titanium string lock holding it up. Was hanging out with my friend in her store and we see someone trying to steal it. I actually went out and talked to him as he is failing to cut through the lock. It was rather amusing, and the part where I told him it was my bike and he ran around the corner into the local street patrol cop was even funnier.

  • lol if only everyone was that lucky XD

  • lol then the world would be a hell fucking idiot hope he get owned one day

  • One of my best friend's is Rick Grad (in the video)... the ONLY one that stopped the guy and asked him if it was his bike... he then helps to break the chain free... hilarious!! I love this video ;^)

  • The best part of this vid is the song. :D

  • no one stoped Josh Silverman because he's white

  • Well this sucks...i live in portland and i bike

(but my bike is shit so who cares)

  • Get a minority to do it, watch some Redneck come out of nowhere and shoot him.

  • Omg the guy even helped him stell it. So if you act calm and like it's your own bike they probly won't bother you. I bet if you try to do that in toronto you'll get jumped and arrested jsut for looking at the bike ^_^

  • Before the dude gets to the bike theres a black man who walks pass the bike on his cell phone (you see him for a split second) at 2mins.. Then 35secs later you see him walk by again on his cell.. I bet he was saying "Dis white cracka is jackin mah ride yo"

  • Two MAJOR problems with this "experiment"...

    1) Bike appears to be a POS (not worth stealing)

    2) The guy is waaay to calm to be a thief of any kind. Ever seen a shoplifter? They're ALWAYS looking around, and that in itself usually gets them caught.

The actual lesson to learned here is to act calm, even if you really are stealing something.

  • awesome m8

  • Heh heh heh.

  • let's see a black dude try to make this same movie. i think it'd be more entertaining.

  • i think this guy has a bit too much time on his hands

  • So how do we know this was actually done 7 times with a 100% success rate? Maybe they filmed 20 of these and only got away with 7? There's no audio... it would have been extremely simple to have Josh wear a mic and that might have made it a little more believable.

  • well if you went/worked at PSU like i do and knew the lame things people call in, this would be surprising considering the amount of bike thefts we have in a month.

  • Eh. Pretty lame expose. The whole point proved here is that if you don't act suspicious, you can get away with anything. That's not some new revelation or anything.

  • I saw a kid getting kicked in his face on the sidewalk a couple of weeks ago, while his friends stood there and watched.

And you think some stranger is going to save your bike from being stolen?

  • Seen this kind of thing before, not that suprising anymore. Now, if that were a car, maybe...you'd get people calling the police or trying to stop you...maybe? Who cares about a bike, and how is someone going to prove it's not your bike and you didn't just loose the key. That's why you take the seat/tire off you bike when you lock it up.
