Clearly anyone who thought this movie was anything other than pure garbage is either deaf dumb and blind or afraid of being called a bigot which is typical these days. if you want to understand a little more search dogfights the Tuskegee airmen it talks about these 2 pilots that were the gruesome twosome and if you paid atention to it when lightning is shot up because of the 262 he is about too die and he and easy are the gruesome twosome. Too bad you couldn't show a sample of the bad acting, or at least give some specific examples. I remember seeing a section of the 1995(?) movie about the Tuskegee Airmen with Laurence Fishburne et al. It seemed like a worthy production. The director of that one did not try to wow anyone with special effects, either.
I would not have even liked the action sequences. I don't appreciate teh acting of the "starts" in this movie anyway. Never have! I would be distrubed to see the unrealistic "attacks on the train." That isn't how "they" did it. BTW Tuskegee Airmen did NOT live up tot he urban myth that no bombers were downed under their watch ... though they were wonderful! For those who object to "white women" well overseas that is what was happening for a lot of black guys. NOT HERE (U.S.) mind you)
He did the script with Jumping from events like American Graffiti, overall I give the movie a 6.5 out of 10. I did hate the acting but the action was good and the story was American Graffiti in WWII. Right down to all the characters being like the characters from American Graffiti. Lighting is Milner, Deacon is toad, the Captian is Curt, Ray Gun is Steve and the German is Bob Falfa.
I figured people would know not to watch shit like this as soon as they heard Dubstep in the trailer. Ne-Yo is also in this film, and when is the last time there was a good film starring a rapper? The 90's maybe? This was an easy movie to avoid. It stars rappers and the film score is atrocious. It's pretty much 80% of black hollywood needing a paycheck, so they were all on board for this film. You don't see Don Cheadle or Morgan Freeman in this shit, because they have self-respect.
I don't know what anyone is arguing with this guy about, this movie sucked! The dialogue is so cheesy and wooden that it was funny. The acting was TERRIBLE!! This is an important story from WWII and this film did it no honor. I wanted to love this movie but I have to say this guy's review is spot on. There is nothing believable about the performances in this film at all. Every time Cuba Gooding or Terrence howard spoke it was as if they were attempting to demonstrate the power of over-acting.

I agree. I was so excited. I never go to the movies and I could not wait for opening day to see this movie. I was telling everyone I knew about it. From the first line of the movie I could tell that I was about to be seriously let down. Just the way it started, it was like an 80's tv show. From there it went into a comic book, then a cartoon. I actually wanted to walk out. I was so bummed. What a bust man.
Steven Spielberg directing? Other than being overrated, I didn't really like how he did "Amistad," which was another African-American based film (that was too Disney-fied) and didn't have a strong script. And, "The Color Purple" was very sugary.
Now, Mel Gibson, I don't know. He has used the n-word in the media towards his former girlfriend. Tom Hanks hasn't done much directing work, IMO...
Kevin Costner hasn't directed a strong film of late, so I wouldn't agree with that choice either.
Just more overuse of CGI, sub-par acting,and directing all rolled into a package aimed solely at the easily entertained. As others have said, get the 90's version of this story if you want to watch a good movie.
Yep Greg you got it right. I too was looking forward to this movie but it missed the mark by a mile. Way too much CGI. They could've mixed a little bit of real Mustang footage. It was like watching a cartoon. poor acting that made me cringe at times. Poor writing. No connection with the characters because they were never developed in the plot. Just a bad representation of some pretty special men. Go rent Tuskegee Airmen from HBO. A much better depiction of what these guys went through.

You tell me which planes are real and which are CGI then I will believe you. If you saw it a the theater with a bad projection, everything looked bad. I'm sure the bluray will look much better. Blame it on the projector and STFU!

Remember a couple years ago the footage of the aerobatic plane losing it's wing and the pilot landing it? Maybe you were one of the one of the ones thinking that was real. Look, I fly for a living and I'm an aviation buff. I'm not saying the average person will be able to tell what's real and what's CGI. This movie was 99% CGI in the air and 50% on the ground.

It had to do with the fact that all the scene and story line and dialogue, and yes, acting was piss poor and did a disservice to the amazingness of the original (factual) story. The dogfight scenes were textbook Lucas and were great. Basically it was the opening scene of Revenge of the Sith with WWII aircraft.
