  • I don't think it does anything to help remember these fellas music and spread any joy with one of the related videos being a song.called n****r in a woodpile. I'm only hear to listen to the music, its not right people already associate the banjo with butt rape and now anyone young or ignorant or full of hate will see this and use it in some.negative way, and this ks the happiest song I think Ive ever heard.

  • i just love this music, it puts everyone in such a good and happy mood

  • There is nobody else who can play the fiddle, guitar and banjo like this.

  • Loved it.

  • is it wrong that i adnced stupidly to this? lol hasagood beat :) ha xD

  • @360flips2010 danced *

  • I'm a hardcore Hendrix/electric guitar man but that is one of the baddest riffs I've heard on any instrument. Perfection and precision. Nothing could be added or taken away to make it better.

  • thats some amazing fiddle playing here

  • CTFxC

  • I am 44 yrs old live in Louisiana and this is what i was raised listening to :) and so proud of it !!!!

  • when skill, innovation, and history meets earl scruggs, music happens

  • @KevinMcGuire1056 Well don't forget, the late Robert Byrd (D-WV) was an accomplished bluegrass fiddle player. Uh... and also a former Klansman. Whatever, music takes all types.

  • @irgifted I forgave him his bigotry. Ignorance from an earlier age. I remember too that he was a fiddler. Hey, the music is the music, right?

  • @KevinMcGuire1056 We all make mistakes.

  • I love me some dang bluegrass

  • I can't stop listening to this stuff

  • First song I learned on the banjo best song ever

  • Connie Talbot, Justin Bieber et al can go to hell.

THIS is redneck music at it's best.

  • thats talent

  • I haven't heard anybody play this song the way Flatt & Scruggs played it. While listening to it I noticed every chorus is different on the banjo. That is why nobody has totally mastered this song except Flatt & Scruggs.

  • im from venezuela, and i like this particular song. Nice TRICk

  • Headed to CC and Victor on Monday, good stuff.

  • so freakin' proud to be american....

  • @LMFAOASAP although this comes from irish music..

  • @rastashredder93 The banjo is a descendent of an African instrument

  • @BR3WCI7YB4NG4 I was refering to bluegrass

  • @BR3WCI7YB4NG4 the banjo is a descendant of shut the fuck up

  • @rastashredder93 Actually, bluegrass comes from Scottish music.

  • Thumbs up if you have ever been on a Cripple Creek run.

  • @AirVengeance318 Shutup. Those thumbs up comments were funny.. never. If your comment was actually witty you would get some thumbs up.

  • @little0kid0lover justin who?

  • @little0kid0lover earl scruggs isn't with God just yet, and he was touring around virginia earlier this year

  • @little0kid0lover Earl Scruggs is still alive.

  • @bluetaurus6 So we'll have two Scruggses. Fine by me!

  • @little0kid0lover - I love the banjo and this music more than any rap or popular music like crappy justin beiber -- but do you have to insult gay people while discussing your feelings? I think that is rude.

  • @adambathon you obviously dont get the joke its a south park refrence look it up man

  • @little0kid0lover Earl is still alive and playing, it's Lester we need.

  • @little0kid0lover Trade for anything on the radio....

  • I'm raping the replay button!

  • Im a rock n roller and classical music fan... this is a GREAT tune.

  • Kinda sounds like the opening to Bron-y-aur stomp

  • @PhysicalGraffiti10 I play both, and they are similar.

  • @torino429scj Maybe page rooted it from this then?

  • Every single that Earl picks is absolutely PERFECT !

  • 12 people got Crippled in the Creek!

  • I've been playing this song for 2 months now and the longer I play it the more I realize how far I've still got to go and what amazing players they are.

  • This is true classic American music.

  • Damn my toe started tapping...

  • Thanks Paul!

  • 1. Listen

    2. Listen again

    3. Listen everyday

    4. Add to favourites

    5. Play at funeral

  • 12 people must be deaf.

  • this is one of the first songs i learned to play on the fiddle!!! LOVE IT

  • Makes me miss Georgia!

  • Pure class

  • Who's playing the fiddle?

  • @KevinMcGuire1056 If I'm not mistaken, I believe the fiddle was played by Paul Warren.

  • @lovemesomcumberbunny My dad bought the album when it came out in...about 1960 or 61 and I still have it here and I have a turntable hooked up so I can play old LPs when I want to. Yes it is Paul Warren on fiddle. The album is called "Foggy Mountain Banjo" and has this, Cumberland Gap, Sally Ann, Sally Goodwin, Bugle Call Rag, Ruben, Groundspeed, Home Sweet Home, Little Darlin' Pal of Mine, Lonesome Road Blues etc on it. No singing on this album at all. Lester Flatt only plays the guitar.

  • @KevinMcGuire1056 I am sure it is Paul Warren, because he was Flatt and Scruggs' fiddler.

  • true soul of the south

  • Wow. Wonderful. Thank you.

  • im glad im in Texas

  • @Dorngrund me toooo!!!!

  • i love bluegrass music its the best takes me back to taxes

  • i love bluegrass music its the best

  • Ain't nuthin' better than the Foggy Mountain Boys.

  • Rather than J. S. Bach, I'd say Earl Scruggs is the Jimi Hendrix of bluegrass.

  • No matter where you are from or your back ground, it is hard not to start tapping your toes to some good old bluegrass, that is unless your......the devil ! ( and hell even the devil got down in georgia :)

  • @LimpingCrow

im from NCand blugrass is what we live buy

  • @LimpingCrow And even when he did, he couldn't beat the fiddler at his own game.

One thing's for certain. If I'm listening to Earl and Lester and my foots a tappin', I'm still on the right side of the flower bed and they aren't late plantin' me.

  • @LimpingCrow Listen to Reckless Kellys version youd like it.

  • Brillant love the Dubs, please drop in and have a listen to my Makem Folk songs

  • I dream the day that I can play like this

  • <3

  • Yessuh by gory fron New Hampshuh!!

  • they should indoctrinate this music to the American child, conservative music at it's BEST!

  • If you head to Canada and like good pickin, be sure to look up JP Cormier - Canada's "Lord of the Strings". If it has strings and is picked or bowed, JP is a master. He spent about 10 years around Nashville working with some of the greats but went home to Cape Breton. Amazing singer / song writer too.

Someone has to pick up the slack as our old favorites like Lester and Earl fade from the scene. On the US side, there is still John McEuen and even Steve Martin

  • TAIN'T ANYONE WILL EVER SURPASS EARL AND LESTER. EARL WENT BLIND BUT HE CAN STILL ROLL THAT BANJO MAN THATS PICKING!!!!

  • Just learn this song :) but can't play it very fast, fingerpicking is so hard!

  • SUPERB!

  • LESTER FLATT IS MY BLOOD RELATIVE!!!!!! hes my great great uncle!!!!!!!! ;)

  • Scruggs Was The First Banjo God; he made this southern states folk lore manifest with respect. No matter how you cut it there has NOT been any better on banjo player since ,PERIOD.........

  • Encyclopedia Britannica credits American singer, songwriter, and mandolin player William Smith "Bill" Monroe (1911-1996) with the invention of the bluegrass style of music. He was born in Kentucky.

  • This is all I've ever known. Born and raised Blue Ridge Mtns of North Carolina :)

  • @fujitsusmith Come to Nashville,in my home state. Thats where it all started.

  • @BreakingTennessee lol dood try kentucky

  • My theme to escape the police and drive straight into the wall of a hay barn.

  • TRULY CLASSIC. This is the kind of music that will never ever die :D

  • cant beat it, no ear rangs hangin off of em, no hippie hair. not all tatted up.

    gentlemen to say the least.

  • OFPS! If you don't like this you ain't alive!

  • Earl is still kicking at 87. Goooo Earl!

  • This is NOT "country music", this is "BLUEGRASS". I'm a rock and roller by heart and I can't stand country music, but I can listen to bluegrass all day long.

  • @ArclightPrime same here! way different than the usual floyd i listen to!

  • @ArclightPrime Hells Yeah!

  • @ArclightPrime Wouldn't it technically be considered American folk?

  • Bluegrass always puts a smile on my face and I the one blastin Disturbed and Bullet For My Valentine.

  • How could anyone check dislike?!! THIS IS FLATT and SCRUGGS !!! HAVE SOME RESPECT!

  • Nobody listen's to this stuff anymore, the only thing people like is gangster rap. Nothing is any good anymore. Only dinosaurs like me listen to this stuff.

  • @oh542545 im 14 and Im listening.

  • @oh542545 im 17 and i love it :)

  • @oh542545 Well now that's quite silly this video has 600,000 views, how can "no one" be listening to this?

I like 90s/80s urban hip hop, but I also like stuff like this. Let's be honest, did anyone listen to this when it was around? Like teenagers? Obviously not.

  • @oh542545 I'm 30 and I flabbergasted my ex about 8 years ago because I programed the car radio to our local bluegrass sation. :) He said I was weird; I said he was deprived of the joy and beauty of Flatt and Scruggs! His Alabama born mother agreed with me! lol I go to my family shindigs in Kentucky just to hear the Bluegrass music being played. ;)

  • @LadyAryun that's bad ass that yall have a bluegrass station, wish i had one here in SW michigan

  • @MetalMilitiaXV I'm lucky in that a lot of the people in and around my town are transplants from WV and KY, not to mention my best friend is a member of a family fiddle group. :) My uncle lived south of Flint so, see if you can get WCXI 1160 AM.

  • You all should come out to Rosine Kentucky, we have a big festival out here every year at Jerusalem Ridge.

  • you cant not be happy while this is playing

  • Ah, nothing satisfies like that Flatt and Scruggs sound. Bluegrass forever!

  • Didn't these guys back up SRV on a couple of his albums?

  • I'm not much of a country music expert, in fact I really don't like the modern country music. All the songs are almost always about being drunk or something not worth listening to. But this, this is the kind of music that makes me a proud American :D

  • If you want to hear some up to date blue grass-check out blue shaddy, fucking fantastic blues-bluegrass.

  • Earl Scruggs is the J.S. Bach of Bluegrass

  • Totally

  • totaly right

  • amazing

  • Wow! Good stuff.

  • Earl was the greatest. Some pickers seem to feel it's beneath them to play a simple tune like this; but Earl makes it sound better than another picker doing something incredibly complex! I honestly think this is my favorite banjo instrumental of all time. Earl simply made the banjo sound good to you whether you knew anything about music or not!

  • ouuu god lets keep that tune alive.......Im not usually praying but for this Im going to church...:DDD....

  • Heeeee haaaww!

  • Eeeeiiiiiii Haaaaaaahh

  • yee haw i kinda like this'un!

  • New country. Old country. Blue Grass. Appalachian old-time music. Why worry about who influenced what or which came first? Listen to what you like and do not worry about what other people listen to.

  • My kids love listening to this song! My daughter is learning the fiddle - she had her first lesson yesterday. And my son will do a "Happy Feet" dance to this song. We love Bluegrass music!

  • Hate to break it to all the folks who are applauding each other for being "dirt dumb hillbillies" for liking Bluegrass, but it's actually a pretty sophisticated music form and the fact you appreciate it puts you in an elite class of connoisseurs of traditional music.

  • @jessebuck Which is part cool, and part annoying.

  • @jessebuck some of the most complicated music there is. the musicians are some of the finest, and it carries with it a distinct air of pleasure or sorrow depending on the written notes which is unrivaled in most other forms of music

  • i live in london england... i'm 24 and a proper city boy, english through and through... but I can't resist this music... bluegrass is awesome. when I come to America, this is the first thing i'm going to find!!
