  • riiiiiight nooo leeeft 30,20, 10 ouuuuu riiight touchdown puh :D Copilot was landing. Captain: Dude you have to spent a drink for me! ;D

  • What did you use to upscale it?

  • NOT HD

  • @captmick79 because the 90's!

  • I think the 747 I landed in yesterday made a crazy drift like this on landing, and man is it scary...I was the only person who was actually watching the forward looking video feed, and it was clear that on approach the winds weren't being too friendly with the aircraft. Then when we hit the tarmac I just saw the entire video feed drift 30 degrees or so to the right, but the pilot was able to correct. I'm sure I was the only person besides the crew on board that actually noticed the drift, lol.

  • What a Pilot !!

  • That was awsome....

  • Hell Of A Landing.

  • 2 much beer :))

  • The ILS for Kai Tak is routed to a 45 degree angle to the runway. Then the pilot turns of the flight director (Manual) and banks right at a 25 degree angle to find the runway right in front! Lol :) It's difficult as you can't roll in a 747 below 100ft as the wingspan is so huge!

  • @ hotty198 They don't use the rudder in flight in the 747 it's pointless! That's why the plane has a yaw damper. Besides using the rudder in a 747 during causes the plane to lose balance, the nose to drop and the plane to fall out of the sky.

  • Please, explain to me why they touch the runway in that position. Thank you.

  • isn't Kai Tak closed in 1998 ?

  • that's about 400 pairs of soiled underwear

  • Amazing

  • Only Skill

  • looks squished :/

but it sure would be nice if we had HD Kai Tak

  • 0:24 to 0:35 u can see another aircraft in line for landing .......gr8 vid man the pilot's got awesome reflexes!

  • Those pilots are crazy

  • fucking Japanese try and drift every thing

  • That is a perfect landing straight onto the permanent markers !!

  • haha jeez!! talk about crosswinds! lol

  • @airboyd you can do it with square pixels, but then a part of the top and bottom will be chopped off.

  • i dont know what peopla are talking about....that was an excellent landing!!!!!

  • "Waa !"

  • AMAZING LANDING, a bit scary and risky but well done to the pilot's, nice crosswind attemp!!!

  • what would you call a good landing?

cut the pilot a break god.

having to land on an airstrip that you have to turn into to land + heres crosswind and hes piloting a 747. ffs cut the pilot a break

  • wow dude chill... he just overdid the rudder before touchdown and put alot of uneeded stress on the gear. besides this airport has been closed for how long? just commenting on now historic video.

  • my bad.

i didnt mean to be mean :P

    just sounded like that :/

  • Oh ya, because you would know. You land 747s in crosswinds ALL the time.

  • like u would know? i dont, but im a simmer.

  • And you could do better???? An amazing landing!

  • look, teen, I dont have "my own video" ok? this is not contest or a match. But i can assure you itwas a "bad" landing. Approach was OK, then he applied rudder and ailerons and level it with the runway. Unitl 1:07 everythink OK. But at 1:08 he lost it, He released rudder thinking wind was unaffecting so low, the plane became crossed and I can assure you its a strong tension gear-suspension-tyres recieve by a massive sideway landing. Surely resisits but lifespan is reduced. Bye.

  • nice landing at first they were gonner but then i was like there going around but no they landed safe

  • i saw a JAL 747 at mian on saturday night

  • great job!!!!

  • god damn it that must have been crazy

  • Awsome landing

  • Nope, he lost in the final touchdown seconds...he corrected with ailerons a bit and it got centered, but then he used too much rudder and it touched sideways...bad!! that usually affects whole gear/suspension.

  • so is it possible to record in DV standard and with certains settings watch it in HD.

  • God bless the rudder;]

  • professional! crab and rudder control! nice!

  • Amazing!

  • wow great job!!!!

it just looked like it was gonna rush into water....

  • That's the really Captain, don't forget Kai Tak (airport) doesn't have ILS approach.

  • im a future pilot, but i dont know what ils is,,,,,,,,someone tell me!!!

  • ILS is a instrument to a precision approach, Nowdays, it's most advanced instrument to approaches.

ILS allow the Captain to approach on a glideslope, the best route to approach.

  • That pilot is THE man (assuming the pilot's a man).

  • 0:40

  • me admira la calidad para hacer este tipo de maniobras en un coloso como el 747 ...y con mucha gente sentada atras tuyo ..

  • that was a borderline drift when they hit the runway

  • this was a really kool video i had fun watching it i really have to say you guys did a really good job shooting it .

  • Was that Paul Walker Driving that?? F&F

  • yeah yeah thats what i am talking about this is the type of video people out there should be making not like other videos i have seen

  • Christ, it nearly ended up in the river there though!!! Crazy!!!

  • This is a pilot who knows his shit...!

  • drift for ever

  • fortunately there is no hudson river

  • nigga got skills

  • shut up

  • That pilot is THE man (assuming the pilot's a man).

  • Amazing Pilots!!

  • wind and flying dont mix..great job on the pilots to stay calm******

  • Good flying.

  • Those pilots deserve incredible bonus checks!

  • drugs and alchool ?????????????

  • Put that bird down nice and easy

  • Waaaaaaa!

  • wow great pilot.... excellent job landing that huge plane like it was easy

  • yeahhh i dont really think i would like to be a passenger of that plane very much...

  • WOW!!! Those pilots just earned their MASSIVE salaries right there... enjoy your money XD

  • you are absolutly right

  • pausing it at 0:59 it would seem he has fucked up

  • nah he just turned the airplane into the wind - killed speed relative to ground while getting some lift and eliminating the forces that push airplane sideways - note when he cranks it back to the runway the gear is almost dead center

  • yeah i know he didn't mess it up, cos i can see it landed, just it looks crazy at that point

  • Piloting, for the most part is easy. It is when you have to deal with shit like this that puts your skills to the test. That is why you don't assign a junior pilot to land a 747, somewhere like Hong Kong International.

  • Correct me if im wrong, but is that not shit piloting? He near crashes that bad boy. Piloting is easy. Like riding a bike... in the sky

  • crosswind landings are one of the hardest things to do with a plane. It looks like he fucked up big time but really he's an excellent pilot! Respect to whoever landed it!

  • I would like to see you try that!

  • i thouht he will crach into tree xD

  • flied lice

  • thats soo chinese.

Waa Waaa WAAA whenever they see something amusing. lol

why do i know? because i used to live in hongkong. lol

wa wa waaa. lol thats jokes

    anyways.

awesome pilot. that dude knows what he's doing.

good thing they shut kai tak airport.

  • sideways landing, cool

    drifting with bigass jet lol

  • wow! hope he does it again

  • Wow, awesome pilot.

  • The pilot's an artist.

  • that is one small ass runway

  • It is a little known fact that it was the copilots first day on the job...

  • lol thats big bullshit, it wasnt..

your thinking of a completely different flight which happened in germany beginning/mid 2008, where the copilot was a woman, and they didnt even land, they reset the engines and put back on full speed to pull up cause they culdnt land, for this flight it wasnt copilots first day, ur thinking of a completely different flight.

  • good pilot!

  • plane drifting is the new thing in Hong Kong if you didnt know

  • Nice drift!

  • louco d+

  • VRRRRRRRROOOOM

  • 1:18

    das ist deutsch!

  • I'm wondering if 747 landed just before them causing dangerous vortex winds or was actual cross wind.

Landing too soon after larger jet can actually flip a jumbo jet, these air currents are nothing to take lightly.

When landing in San Fran last year, we were just few yards from landing, but turbulence so great we had to pull up, have another go around for landing. Was a bit unnerving that day for all flyers...especially infrequent flyers. There was lots of ground kissing! Glad landed safe!

  • I'm sure this was crosswinds because as you said jet wash is very violent and unpredictable. This maneuver wouldn't be used in a case like that and as you said the pilot probably would have done a go around.

  • i dont get it whats cool about this?

  • the amount of skill it takes to make an immaculate landing like this in such winds is extreme. think about it: he is trying to land one of the largest production aircraft in existance. he can't land too hard, cant overuse the runway, and the whole time he is being blown all over the place. If you have ever driven a u-haul truck unloaded, it is alot like that, only imagine with storm force winds, on a wet road and going onto a bridge with only inches of clearance on either side.

  • YEAH I KNOW!!

great way to make a comparison though! lol that would be what its like

  • haha thank you

  • The truth is out there.

  • damn i want to live in one of those house under the flight path, im sure it rocks

  • Sick Drift... but scary if your in plane

  • i bet he gets cristmas cards froma a few grateful passengers lol

  • drift!!! lool

  • landing at Kai Tak was crazy scary!!

  • it somehow look strange and animated...i dunno why lol

  • Wow.

  • have u ever tried to post a youtube comment so stupid that people realized it was stupid? impossible!

  • that's because so many are just so stupid you can't tell them apart from jokingly stupid ones

  • But you have a japanese corporate name. Go figure. Take some geography lessons

  • wow O_o

  • This was intence. Ppl on this plain prolly shit themselves

  • good find. i think jfk 13lis similer, not as tricky

  • AWESOME AIR DRIFT~ lol

  • Thats not that rare or special.

F16s ,for example, land only this way, they dont land straight..

  • Can somebody who knows enough to enlighten us on how do the pilots manage to do that? I suppose it's not manual control, is it? What kind of assistance do they have?

Semi-technical explanations only, no random replies, plz, as I have noticed some "interesting" insults posted here...

  • This is a very typical maneuver that pilots do called the "crab". It is very basic but is rarely used in crosswinds this strong, probably because this is the only runway or the others were in use. The pilot had no extra assistance and this is purely manual control. An article explain this maneuver in a little more detail is on Wikipedia under "Crosswind Landing".

  • interesting...thank you

  • This pilot ultimately made a safe landing and appears to be quite the hero, but do you think he/she could have done anything different to help make for a smoother/safer landing?

  • Hong Kong is in China asshole

  • That was insane.

  • brutal -- maybe. barbarian, that's a stretch.

  • Tsing Tao!!!!!!

  • Yay beer!

  • he was never going to hit thee tree

  • shitttt...mayne i can only imagine how the ppl on the plane felt

    kudos to the awesome piloting

  • Airline pilots + redbull = ftw

  • daaang

  • its almost like he could of saved it before he almost hit the tree nice save though

  • Great pilot

  • Deff. kudos to that pilot! Bet everyone onboard was sucking some serious seat!

  • that is a excellent pilot!

  • but was there any damage to the plane?

  • WTF?

  • that`s the best video

  • It's just stupid to post this spontaneous comment that you know it's not true???

  • holy shit that was awesome....

  • thats what they get paid for

  • That's one helluva pilot!! 5 stars!

  • you will never seen those landing again haha

  • damn that dude kicks ass

  • man i remember this plane i was in was trying to land in hong kong in a typhoon storm. the pilot was trying to land but it was too windy and he had to go up again and try landing over and over again. it was pretty crazy because at time the plane would drop and you'd get that stomach dropping feeling from a roller coaster. yeah, my brother ended up puking lol.

  • That's how you do it! When there's a strong crosswind across the runway like that, you have to crab into the wind (point the plane into the wind) so you can land it safely. Otherwise, you get blown with the wind if its striking the full side of the aircraft. I've had to land like that a few times when I was in flight school.

  • damn he knew what he was doin

  • smooth landing :)

  • good piloting on their part.

  • theres no such thing as a women pilot and thank god or else ur dead.

  • The sad thing is that a women pilot almost killed all the people on board this plane: (watch?v=Sd2AoYtTcFg) Luckily the captain took the controls and saved the situation. Have a look here:

  • why does it matter if a bad pilot is a woman?

  • I think thats why we changed from Kai tak to Chep thingy

  • whoopy doo, how do you know which way he was going?

  • wow mad skillls seriosly

  • Impressive flying. Those passengers need to be grateful they had a pilot who knew what the hell he/she was doing.

  • Now there's a cat who knows what the hell he/she is doing.

  • wow man i swear had i been in there i would probablyfreaked out

  • 飞机开得很牛逼

  • if you didn't notice the nose of the plane was never pointing in the direction the plane was actually going. that means there was an epic crosswind

  • uuhuhuhuhu i would shit in my pants if i would be in there

  • Пипец.ПИЛОТЫ полюбэ штанишки подмочили!!!Но,молодцы,хоть и раздолбаи:):):)
