@littlejake117 He's definitely not a fag. He is a very strong, artistic and courageous man with a great personality. I have serious respect for figure skaters, because that is hard stuff. And if you don't believe me, just go ahead and try on a pair of figure skates and do a double axel. I can guarantee that figure skating isn't just all "peaches and cream" - it's way more than that.
no one cares that he didn't do almost any of the required jumps, they clap through the whole performance. people just love him. people don't wanna see Japanese robots with great techniques and n soul. Love you Lambiel
As a former ballet dancer, I love this because it's very balletic hence rather unique for figure skating. Now that he's retired, I feel like there's no one competing who can do justice to classical programs like he does.
Hope he continues to explore various disciplines of dance in his new programs. Looking forward to more ballet, flamenco, jazz/ modern, and even club dance moves in his skating.
What I love about Stephane is how he doesn't do "moves" -- everything flows into everything else. You notice it especially in the middle of the routine. To me, he is the best male skater for artistry in the past 25 years. Weir runs a close second.
@Treebard Surely, Stephane is the best male skater in the past 25 years. He skates with artristry, feels every bit of the the music in his skate and the best spinner.
He is the most wonderful and beautiful skate artist. I can see the beauty from his face to toe and moves. And his spin in truly amazing. And we all know he is so handsome as well.
He might have deserved a medal at the olympics, but I feel all the wuzrobbing for him here is kinda pointless. We all know he was there to win gold, he wouldn't have been satisfied with a bronze.
Lambiel can just stand there and stare at the camera and I'd be happy. Though I do love his magnificent spins and flair, especially during the the second part of this program.
He loses a bit of steam towards the end - but much more relaxed performance here than at the Olympics. Too bad he was off that day - maybe he would have won the gold if he skated this like he did in practice. This is a lovely, lovely program.
\he is the best spinner, most beautiful to watch. it's a pity he has to retire at such a young age. he would have won a medal in vancouver if he could do a triple axel.
I don´t to get into polemics but the Olympic champ didn´t even tried a quad, how on earth should Stephane be penalized for not doing a triple axel?...the bronze medalist fell during his LP.....
Stephane didn´t.The skater who fell got a medal , stephane didn´t and he lost a medal..
What's hard to understand was that Daisuke got higher PCS than Stephane, when it should've been the other way around. I heard the judges really wanted one of the Japanese men to medal because it would be a first and because all three continents would be represented. The Orange One (Evan) won with a program that Boitano could've skated when he won in '88, or for that matter Mao Asada could've skated in Vancouver.
I don't understand this triple axel business either. The commentators in the US were all 'he's got two quads planned but he doesn't have a triple axel so that's going to be a huge problem'. Aren't quads better? I just felt like they were trying to brainwash us the whole time. I'm not a skater but I've been watching it for 20+ years and I couldn't make sense out of the scores or comments.
I don't understand what the commentator was saying, but if he said that, then I love him too! Its exactly my opinion. What Stephane does IS art, who cares if he falls once? I wish skating was more handled like ballet. I am sure there were many ballet dancers who could jump higher than Nurejew- who cares? He was still the best. And who cares if Lambiel falls once? For me and for lots of people Stephane Lambiel should have been on that Podium. For most of us he is just the best. You just have to read his guestbook and his journal to know what people around the world think! He combines skating and the artistry in a unique way! It was such a great injustice!
I hope he hasn´t retired because of this..If he has ..I just don´t know what to think..

plushenko's attitude detracts from himself, lambiel has a great attitude and is a great skater. not saying plushenko isn't. but at least lambiel didn't go on a long rant about how lysacek didn't deserve a gold or how a silver medal is so bad. lambiel was thrilled to get silver in turin. plushenko- sore loser. btw, i don't remember his olympic free skate perfectly, didn't he fall on his quad, or was that takahashi, or did they both fall?
elegance perfect their jumps their harmony makes viewers enjoy seeing dancing. truthh is the first time i see him but i think it should have won a medal ..aii!! i loved this boy :)
Actually, I think as we are seeing in Vancouver, artistry DOES count a lot, considering Plushenko had the biggest tech elements but is in a virtual tie with other, more artistic skaters... I'm actually starting to respect the new judging system now.
charismatic skater. fantastic use of music and movement. finesse...too bad artistry no longer counts because he is unrivalled with interpretation and choreography
I forgot how much I loved watching Lambiel skate until i saw his short program yesterday! Pity he had a few mistakes on his jumps, but I trust he will skate a spectacular long program Thursday! Watching him, you truly see how much joy there can be in figure skating. Reminiscent of Alexei Urmanov.
Qualities of his skating I love that other male skaters don't pay attention to:
how each arm movement is for a purpose; his blades caress the ice; he skates with such freedom and verve; his emotional connection to the music is not just in flapping arms around or contorting his face; his fabulous footwork that fits the music; when he lands jumps the quality is so clean and the landing soft and of course those peerless spins.
I love his skating, he floats on ice, has great choreography and I wish him all the best at Olympic Games 2010. Plushenko is out of competition of course.
I believe Lambiel and Plushenko both try to better the sport. They are highly competitive, but both have different strengths. That raises the bar on men's FS which is good. More participants and fans need to find this sport.
Lambiel is absolutely the best skaker of the world despite some technical mistakes: I hope they will be solved for Vancouver and let him beat Plushenko as Lambiel can it!
He is just stunning on the ice! Love wathing him! THE MASTER OF THE EMOTION! ALMOST THE MASTER OF ICE! THANK YOU STEPHANE FOR THIS MASTER PIECE OF THE ART!
This is so beautiful. Even with mistakes Stephane has more sincere and authentic artistry in one gesture than the others in their whole perfromance (with due respect for all skaters). He can make even boring CoP footwork look like natural and inspiring dance. Nobody skates like this anymore. Thank you for great emotions and creating real art on the ice.
It is upsetting to me that because Plushenko can jump better than any other man he wins all of the competitions. He doesn't have a tenth of the artistry of Lambiel or Weir. I would much rather watch Johnny or Stephane skate than Plushenko.
Om my god I'm sooo glad he came back! (and with some nice costume :D) I've always loved watching him skate! and when he spinns.... my heart goes really fast :D
I think, this programme is one of the best of all Champs. Despite the mistakes, fall, his program is always interesting to watch. He is beautiful, graceful and incredibly artistic
Beautiful program! And gorgeous spins! He is a spinning genius. More graceful than Plushenko, but Plushenko is still more powerful and consistent with jumps. I think Lambiel's program this season is a lot prettier to watch than Plushenko's though. It will be interesting to see how things play out for them at the olympics.
I do like him. For me, he is one of the most graceful skaters ( the other one is Johnny Weir). I agree Evgeny Plushenko maybe is the best jumping but his artistic merit is inferior. What happens with the emotion and the interpretation? Stéphane Lambiel also know jumping and he even can improve his jumps but Evgeny is not likely to improve his grace. I think the Swiss skater is more complete than the Russian one. I hope he will do it fantastically in the Olympics!
@fanmedley Lambiel also reminds me of Weir, when it comes to gracefulness. But Lambiel is by far a better skater than Weir, because he's a much powerful jumper than Weir.
and don't forget Weir's costumes. Yikes. But I also like Weir, he's really sweet and funny and good for the sport. I think Lambiel's toughest competition is Jeremy Abbott.
to be honest i like lambiel, but this slow music and ballet like flaring of hands does little to impress me. His short program was much more enjoyable and had character, that;s what performance is about. And to Helen1971, plushenko has presence on ice and does his step sequence with such authority, it is part of his performance and interpretation, see how he ends every jump with style. he has a powerful interpretation, and if you can't see it you don't recognise art!
To PurrLisse, we all know that Plushenko is a great champion, but authority and power are not necessarily synonimus of pure beauty or emotions. I do love him, but art express itself mainly with love. Take a look to Oksana Baiul 92 Olympic gala. Maybe you can read the comment above yours and you'll understand what I mean. Fanmedley, I totally agree with you. Purrlisse I suppose you are saying that we are not able to recognise beauty (art). Everybody on YT is entitled t write what they feel.:)
PurrLisse, and if you really knew your skating you would know the difference between flopping your arms around (Plushenko) and moving your arms in tune with the music and choreography (Lambiel)
@PurrLisse I agree about Plushenko, although I don't think that all of his programs are art - some of them have too little choreography to be perceived as art.
But, excuse me - no character in this program??!! The fact that the program's style is not to your liking doesn't mean that it has no character. In my (and not just my) opinion there is more character in this program than in many other skater's programs together.
I totally agree!!! as plushenko said, how could you win the world without a single quad?! they have slacked! and plushenko will push figure skating back to the level it was
In this case, ask yourself: is Plushenko interpreting the music or he is filling his programs with jumps to get scores? Or, another question: IS HIS interpretation at the same level of his jumps? In my modest opinion, you cant win an Olympic games just jumping. I felt a kind of boreness watching his SP, the first part was filled just with jumps. Has ice skating become a sport discipline called Jumping ice skating? Jumps should be included in the programm but NOT in a continous row. It is boring
It's just two different styles and i like both of them. But Plushenko has definitively more than only jumps. His execution is fantastic, i keep all his programms in my mind since 1996. Just click for some programms and look at the reaction ofthe audience(my favorite is LP 2001). Did you see him live, it's some kind of power you can not feel watching tv?
I didnt have the pleasure to see him live, but I surely will in the next months. Maybe I wrote in a way that I was miserunderstood, I j wanted to say that I dont see the same level of attention toward the music compared to the attention and care he gives to jumps. I do not have your perception: I cant remember clearly his programs but one: during a gala he was wearing a macho mask, I mean, it was really funny! A great champion, no question, but I think that there should be a limit in jumps (fp)
I totally agree with you. Figure skating isn't only about jumps. It's some kind of art, and (without being subjective) Lambiel has more art in one hand motion, like Plushenko in his whole programm. Yes, the russian jumps better, no question. But in EVERY other thing he's much better.
So after all Plushenko can jump, and his famous. That's why he got so high points in 5 components and that's why he won.
I'm totally agree with you. I'm just so afraid that jumps are everything to win now. I do Love Plushenko, he is perfect, and I know how artistic he can be then he cares about it... But he prefers to win by pure jumping... It's right (couse I want golden medal for my country and who wouldn't?) but it's ...so boring!!!
Beautiful artistic programme. It reminded me of the great John Curry at times and a bit like Rudi Cerne - another great artist on the ice from the 1980's. A very well deserved silver medal, a great quad to/double toe combo and easily the best spins in the World.
Que bom! Outra portuguesa a comentar! Assim já não me sinto tão sózinha.!!! Afinal , nós portugueses amamos a patinagem embora haja poucos praticantes.
You are amazing, little Prince! :) and when I think of what an effect a clean skate would do it just blows my mind entirely :)) You are the reason I like men's figure skating this year :)))
Through his dancing I can feel the music he's dancing, and not like other skaters, that just come on the ice to do the exercises and get scores. The comentator was right I didn't even notice him falling :) Just pure pleasure watching him dance!!!
I am an avid Lambiel and Plushenko fan. I would like to see Lambiel win the Olympics this time since plush won the last time, but if it's 1-2 again, that will suffice!
Yes, he fall, but he was the only one to skate coherently on his music,... have you watched the other skaters? They are wonderful, of course, but ask yourself this question: Are they interpreting the music? I mean, skating on dance music is easier, try to do that on Verdi: it is at least 10 times more difficult. Stéphane is an artist, he does not need gold to be recognised as one of the greatest in history of figure skating; others will be remembered as champions and stop. He IS MORE AND MORE.
you are so right, watching the other programs I felt like they could throw any music in there and it would not matter. With Lambiel the music, the skating, the costume, his acting, it all came together perfectly. Now if only he can skate this clean at Olympics it would be a historic Olympic moment.
My GOD... I can't get enough of this program! If he skates it without mistakes, I am sure he will win Olympics, because Plushenko's program was nothing compared to this. Congrats to Stephane for the silver. He really deserves this one. :)))
The sound was hardly working on the Turkish feed I was watching, so thanks for posting this so quickly! Not perfect, but so glad he did enough for silver! :)

how each arm movement is for a purpose; his blades caress the ice; he skates with such freedom and verve; his emotional connection to the music is not just in flapping arms around or contorting his face; his fabulous footwork that fits the music; when he lands jumps the quality is so clean and the landing soft and of course those peerless spins.
He's also insanely beautiful.
Fabstaire 2 years ago 3
I love his skating, he floats on ice, has great choreography and I wish him all the best at Olympic Games 2010. Plushenko is out of competition of course.

I believe Lambiel and Plushenko both try to better the sport. They are highly competitive, but both have different strengths. That raises the bar on men's FS which is good. More participants and fans need to find this sport.

Good job! Praying for Olympics and Worlds!!!! MAn you are the best, If less mistakes you are first for sure!

Lambiel is absolutely the best skaker of the world despite some technical mistakes: I hope they will be solved for Vancouver and let him beat Plushenko as Lambiel can it!
gencan 2 years ago 7
@gencan , his short program is quite boring though. He needs more energy.
Tihbialdunav 2 years ago
He is just stunning on the ice! Love wathing him! THE MASTER OF THE EMOTION! ALMOST THE MASTER OF ICE! THANK YOU STEPHANE FOR THIS MASTER PIECE OF THE ART!
tzapryanova 2 years ago 6
This is so beautiful. Even with mistakes Stephane has more sincere and authentic artistry in one gesture than the others in their whole perfromance (with due respect for all skaters). He can make even boring CoP footwork look like natural and inspiring dance. Nobody skates like this anymore. Thank you for great emotions and creating real art on the ice.
theicebutterfly 2 years ago 10
It is upsetting to me that because Plushenko can jump better than any other man he wins all of the competitions. He doesn't have a tenth of the artistry of Lambiel or Weir. I would much rather watch Johnny or Stephane skate than Plushenko.

I think, this programme is one of the best of all Champs. Despite the mistakes, fall, his program is always interesting to watch. He is beautiful, graceful and incredibly artistic
MissAlinchik 2 years ago 12
Beautiful program! And gorgeous spins! He is a spinning genius. More graceful than Plushenko, but Plushenko is still more powerful and consistent with jumps. I think Lambiel's program this season is a lot prettier to watch than Plushenko's though. It will be interesting to see how things play out for them at the olympics.

MissAlinchik 2 years ago
I do like him. For me, he is one of the most graceful skaters ( the other one is Johnny Weir). I agree Evgeny Plushenko maybe is the best jumping but his artistic merit is inferior. What happens with the emotion and the interpretation? Stéphane Lambiel also know jumping and he even can improve his jumps but Evgeny is not likely to improve his grace. I think the Swiss skater is more complete than the Russian one. I hope he will do it fantastically in the Olympics!
fanmedley 2 years ago 9
@fanmedley Lambiel also reminds me of Weir, when it comes to gracefulness. But Lambiel is by far a better skater than Weir, because he's a much powerful jumper than Weir.
Schmidit 2 years ago
and don't forget Weir's costumes. Yikes. But I also like Weir, he's really sweet and funny and good for the sport. I think Lambiel's toughest competition is Jeremy Abbott.
Fabstaire 2 years ago
to be honest i like lambiel, but this slow music and ballet like flaring of hands does little to impress me.
PurrLisse 2 years ago 2
To PurrLisse, we all know that Plushenko is a great champion, but authority and power are not necessarily synonimus of pure beauty or emotions. I do love him, but art express itself mainly with love. Take a look to Oksana Baiul 92 Olympic gala. Maybe you can read the comment above yours and you'll understand what I mean. Fanmedley, I totally agree with you. Purrlisse I suppose you are saying that we are not able to recognise beauty (art). Everybody on YT is entitled t write what they feel.:)
TheHelen1971 2 years ago
PurrLisse, and if you really knew your skating you would know the difference between flopping your arms around (Plushenko) and moving your arms in tune with the music and choreography (Lambiel)
Fabstaire 2 years ago
@PurrLisse I agree about Plushenko, although I don't think that all of his programs are art - some of them have too little choreography to be perceived as art.
But, excuse me - no character in this program??!! The fact that the program's style is not to your liking doesn't mean that it has no character. In my (and not just my) opinion there is more character in this program than in many other skater's programs together.
boguswoman81 7 months ago
@Kariyshok
I totally agree!!! as plushenko said, how could you win the world without a single quad?! they have slacked! and plushenko will push figure skating back to the level it was
PurrLisse 2 years ago
krendelyek 2 years ago
litinaa 2 years ago
Beautiful programs despite the mistakes... but no triple axel?? I know that's his nemesis, but still, its a standard 3 jump.
yodabeesh 2 years ago
In this case, ask yourself: is Plushenko interpreting the music or he is filling his programs with jumps to get scores? Or, another question: IS HIS interpretation at the same level of his jumps? In my modest opinion, you cant win an Olympic games just jumping. I felt a kind of boreness watching his SP, the first part was filled just with jumps. Has ice skating become a sport discipline called Jumping ice skating? Jumps should be included in the programm but NOT in a continous row. It is boring
TheHelen1971 2 years ago 9
It's just two different styles and i like both of them. But Plushenko has definitively more than only jumps. His execution is fantastic, i keep all his programms in my mind since 1996. Just click for some programms and look at the reaction ofthe audience(my favorite is LP 2001). Did you see him live, it's some kind of power you can not feel watching tv?
Fanofice 2 years ago
I didnt have the pleasure to see him live, but I surely will in the next months. Maybe I wrote in a way that I was miserunderstood, I j wanted to say that I dont see the same level of attention toward the music compared to the attention and care he gives to jumps. I do not have your perception: I cant remember clearly his programs but one: during a gala he was wearing a macho mask, I mean, it was really funny! A great champion, no question, but I think that there should be a limit in jumps (fp)
TheHelen1971 2 years ago
I totally agree with you. Figure skating isn't only about jumps. It's some kind of art, and (without being subjective) Lambiel has more art in one hand motion, like Plushenko in his whole programm. Yes, the russian jumps better, no question. But in EVERY other thing he's much better.
So after all Plushenko can jump, and his famous. That's why he got so high points in 5 components and that's why he won.
11Effie11 2 years ago 8
I'm totally agree with you. I'm just so afraid that jumps are everything to win now. I do Love Plushenko, he is perfect, and I know how artistic he can be then he cares about it... But he prefers to win by pure jumping... It's right (couse I want golden medal for my country and who wouldn't?) but it's ...so boring!!!
litinaa 2 years ago 5
Beautiful artistic programme. It reminded me of the great John Curry at times and a bit like Rudi Cerne - another great artist on the ice from the 1980's. A very well deserved silver medal, a great quad to/double toe combo and easily the best spins in the World.

I remembered Filippe Condeloro. He also was artist more then ordinary sportsman and had very memorible programms.

protivnaja777 2 years ago 5
litinaa 2 years ago 7
solnatta 2 years ago 2

Que bom! Outra portuguesa a comentar! Assim já não me sinto tão sózinha.!!! Afinal , nós portugueses amamos a patinagem embora haja poucos praticantes.
Beijos portugueses.

You are amazing, little Prince! :) and when I think of what an effect a clean skate would do it just blows my mind entirely :)) You are the reason I like men's figure skating this year :)))
vladiusik 2 years ago 8
Through his dancing I can feel the music he's dancing, and not like other skaters, that just come on the ice to do the exercises and get scores. The comentator was right I didn't even notice him falling :) Just pure pleasure watching him dance!!!

I am an avid Lambiel and Plushenko fan. I would like to see Lambiel win the Olympics this time since plush won the last time, but if it's 1-2 again, that will suffice!
nightmistress85 2 years ago 4
Yes, he fall, but he was the only one to skate coherently on his music,... have you watched the other skaters? They are wonderful, of course, but ask yourself this question: Are they interpreting the music? I mean, skating on dance music is easier, try to do that on Verdi: it is at least 10 times more difficult. Stéphane is an artist, he does not need gold to be recognised as one of the greatest in history of figure skating; others will be remembered as champions and stop. He IS MORE AND MORE.
TheHelen1971 2 years ago 13
TheHelen
you are so right, watching the other programs I felt like they could throw any music in there and it would not matter. With Lambiel the music, the skating, the costume, his acting, it all came together perfectly. Now if only he can skate this clean at Olympics it would be a historic Olympic moment.
Fabstaire 2 years ago 2
