One thing I have never understood is why weightlifters rigidly stick to Olympic high bar squat instead of a low bar squat. Since the back squat is an overall strengthening tool and not a specific one (like front squats) surely it makes sense to use maximum poundage which the low back squat allows ?
@MrMorry27 Squats are accessory lifts both in strength and movement. A front squat translates to the movement of a clean, while a back squat translate to the movement of a snatch.

@muzimuzi He is squatting in oly lifting shoes. They are designed for squatting and deadlifting in. Part of the sole is made of wood and gives a good sturdy base. It is either these of barefoot. You are correct in running shoes being atrocious to squat in.
