  • *****Windows Users*****

go to the folder that the file is in then go to,

    Tools>>Folder Options>>View tab

then UNcheck 'Hide File Extensions for known file types'

then you'll be able to edit the file extension.

  • dude ur awseme!!!

  • Using vista, It wont let me change the file extention to .m4r I can only edit the name of the file. Any help?

  • I don't see the ringtone catagory on the side bar in Itunes

  • What version of garageband are you using? I have the version that came with the macbook which is version 3.0.4 and there is no send ringtone option...just send song to itunes option....any fix for that or do i just have an outdated version?

  • i'm using 4.1.2. you have the garageband from the ilife 06 suite. :(

  • aww that sucks....no workaround huh...

  • you could always buy ilife 08 lol

  • Work around is really easy...just go "Share" --> export song to disk....and save it on your desktop and do the same thing. Or if that still doesnt work just get a free editing suite....they are really easy to find esp on torrent sites.

  • Ayo, great stuff...does this conversion work with DRM music bought through Itunes? I tried to create AAC version from this song, and it won't let me since it is a DRM file. Any help?

  • i don't know.. i never tried it with music that have DRM. maybe it won't work because they put a lock on it so you have to buy it off of itunes. just download the same song and turn that one into a ringtone lol.

  • good video, wish they had garageband for windows! :(

  • Awesome video, I have a mac but garageband versions before 8 can't export as a ringtone. So I should be able to use this method. Thanks!

  • Haha, it's alright David. Us Mac users know so much about everything Apple related that we forget about the simple things. I'm a big fan by the way, and thanks for commenting.

  • ooo you're stepping into the darkside sean.

props on the vid. it's very informative.

i've been using the pc version of this tutorial and some people on pc won't be able to change the file extension until they

    *****Windows Users*****

go to the folder that the file is in then go to,

    Tools>>Folder Options>>View tab

then UNcheck 'Hide File Extensions for known file types'

then you'll be able to edit the file extension.

  • that u for that EXTREMELY useful comment. couldntve done it with out your extra help

  • Windows users: Open itunes select song right click, and select options, choose the section Start:, and End: (select a section you like) then right click the song create AAC version, drag the AAC version to the desktop and change the extension. Before you drag it back in delete the old version, drag the new version in and your done!

  • or you can just got you audikoDOTnet

  • Also sean, an easier way, is to make the song 20 seconds long. Edit it in the itunes itself, the song options. And then just change the .mp3 to i think mp3r

  • Audacity is awesome. I love that program. great informative video. Thank You Sean!

  • Good stuff Sean.

  • awesome vid!

  • Great tip.. I thought you HAD to pay to make them in iTunes.. Good catch :)

  • 1st comment!!! yay tnx for the vid
