This movie sucked balls! I should've known since it was a straight to dvd release. Kevin Eastman only made this movie to showcase his aging trophy wife Julie Strain. It was an insult for fans of the genre! The animation quality was piss poor at best. You would think that with the advances in animation technology he could've come up with something better than a Mutant Ninja Turtle style cartoon!? I gave the dvd away because I refuse to have that steaming pile of shit in my video library!

@andrielianeify I find it kind of hard to compare the two, the original is just a crazy trip for the most part with these little story vigniettes, and makes absolutely no sense. It has better music, and the rawness of the animation is cool.

Heavy Metal 2000 is a lot more of a real movie though, it has a story that makes some ammount of sense.

I mean, I can apreciate the original for what it is, but if it wasn't for the fact that it was groundbreaking at the time it wouldn't be much of a movie.

Overal the film is bad. There are a few zingers for lines there. My fav. is when Tyler first comes on the bridge, shoots it up and asks "are their any more stupid questions?" The guy at the helm raises his and and starts to ask only to be shot! Tyler villainously asks the next guy, "name and duty!" He responds, and a third guy gives his name. Tyler turns to the third guy and says "If I want your name shit-brain, all ask for it!" Good stuff!

This second film is a disappointment. It did not push the bounds of convention as the first one did. Thus it is not a true Heavy Metal film it only carries the name. Meh, about as good as I expected, kind of so so. But the original was so so also. The original esp was a big disappointment for the music, all top 40 crap except for one BOC song and an offbeat choice of a Devo song. The soundtrack is sure better. Visuals are nothing great, same as the first one. What's missing is the sense of humor from the first one. The story is the same as the last story in the first Heavy Metal. It just isn't interesting enough to sustain 9o minutes
