That's black MALES in a certain age group in 2002.
I've heard the one about more blacks in jail than college but that is probably false at present. It's quite close though.

@vvyperr7 A new study from the Justice Policy Institute, a Washington, DC-based think-tank that advocates for alternatives to prison, has found that after two decades of harsh criminal justice policies, there are more black men in jail or prison than in college. At the end of 2000, 791,600 black men were behind bars and 603,032 were enrolled in colleges or universities.
This is probably where that myth comes from. It's 11 years old and does not apply at present.

@vvyperr7 More facts: In 2009 black non-Hispanic males were incarcerated at the rate of 4,749 inmates per 100,000 U.S. residents of the same race and gender. White males were incarcerated at the rate of 708 inmates per 100,000 U.S. residents.
That's exactly a 6.7 times difference.

@vvyperr7 And the reason there is such a large proportion of the population dealing with the criminal justice system at any one time is the harsh laws in the U.S.
In Europe if you murder someone, you're out in usually under 20 years but in the U.S. you'll probably never get out.
Same thing with other crimes as well. Much harsher penalties in the U.S.

That's some 1990's stat, but that figure is probably (slightly) lower now (I guess).
That's where the percentages get quite high.

@NakedLunch2Lol My sister is a cop ( a captain deputy sheriff) and the have to turn over a report of all crime related arrest to the state and fbi and then they can get back a report of state to state (country wide crime arrest and convictions) in different types of crime (all crime) and what report are you reading? OF the past like 8 years the hate crimes are lopsided towards blks and hispanic victims and at the hands of whites(mostly white males) i have the %'s if you like to view them!

@NakedLunch2 Before you even open ur mouth, here's the report (The official report from the FBI for the country wide hate crime arrest) The FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION report for hate crimes for the year of 2010 n 2011. Shows that out of 8,336 victims of hate crimes over 4,000 were race related and 72% were blk victims,62.5% were hispanic victims. Also out of that 6,225 out of the 8,336 offenders 62.4% of the offenders were white,18.5%blk offenders and 7.3% were other race offenders!

Looking at your offender stats, there is a slight overrepresentation of black offenders and an underrepresentation on whites since whites account for 72.4% of population and blacks 12.6%.
Hate crimes may be difficult to determine, but like I said, blacks are incarcerated at 6.5 times the rate of whites.

@NakedLunch2 Ahh no, you murder rate stats may be slightly diverged in the other direction go check out the fbi uniformed crime report (official stats) for any year you can think of! Sure blks are the minority and whites are the mojority so the numbers should always heavily favor the majority! Go check the murder stats AND GET BACK AT ME LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU CAME UP WITH! @vvyperr7 I wouldn't use the word "slightly" diverged or skewed when describing murder disparity between whites and blacks, I would use "heavily" skewed, since blacks murder about the same number of folks annually as whites even though the white population is about six times the size of blacks.
For all offences, blacks are incarcerated at 6.5 times the rate of whites and that is a very, very considerable difference indeed.
Don't get me started on other ways blacks differ unfavorably.
