  • Check out my video of the carving of it. 'Mythical Icons'. It also has my history of Bill Reid.

  • I think its terrific. The white surface doesnt bother me, I like how the subtle high lights and shadows reveal a fantastic assortment of shapes forms and textures. Bill Reid must of been a remarkably brave, generous and visionary man. Was the original done in wood or clay?

  • This is the plastic version. To really appreciate this work of art you should check out the "Jade" sculpture (green bronze) at Vancouver International Airport or the "Black" sculpture (black bronze) outside the Canadian embassy in Washington DC. This plastic one just does not have the "weight" - metaphorically and literally - of the bronze versions.

  • Agree. This version is still impressive though.

  • I'm teaching my art students about Bill Reid's work at the moment. This is a brilliant resource as it will help them to understand his sculptures in 3 dimensions. Being in the UK, it's the closest they are likely to get to any of his work. Thanks so much for sharing this.

  • Let them know that they could get a free ebook on Northwest Native art at the website listed at the end of the video

  • It's a beautiful piece! I was just at the Museum of Civilization last week, and I thought this sculpture was breathtaking!

  • this on a new canadian 20$ bill

  • Yes indeed, if you go to the website listed at the end of the video and go to the articles section, look for the one about this bank note
