  • Auntyji, when you made chole, I remember that you added besan. Is it not necessary to add Besan here in rajma recipe?

  • @subramak

    rajma don,t need besan.

  • Thanks for the recipe Manjula aunty. I made this dish as per your method and it came out very good. Maybe i added more chillies than needed because it became a little spicy. So I added a couple of spoons of tomato ketchup + some lime juice and that bought down the spice level and gave a good taste too.

  • Hi wonderful dis and what brand cooker is it? and where did you buy it? Did u buy it in USA?

  • delicious

  • Namaste Auntyji, i love your recipes as it suits my family taste...auntyji please uploads some microwave recipes for ppl like us...thanx auntiji..u look so cute..<3<3

  • y dint you used onion in it...as punjabi dishes generally contains good amount of

    Garlic and onion

  • Rajma is a punjabi recipe and no punjabi recipe is complete without onions and garlic in it.U missed the key ingredients.Coriander powder is not used in rajma and punjabi gravy is never complete without Garam masala, thats a must spice for punjabi cooking.please dont use black pepper , its Rajma n not a soup.

  • Thank you for the great recipe. Your recipes taste really really good and better than the ones cooked with garlic and onion. Keep it up!

  • @Information76 I prefer rajma without onion and garlic, though it

    s OK both ways

  • Miss Manjula, How should I make this recipie without using the pressure cooker because I can not afford one. I rememeber having this dish at a friend's house from overseas and I have a serious craving for this dish! Please help! <3

  • @misalisa212

You can cook this without pressure cooker it will take about one hour to cook.

  • @misalisa212 Just use 2 cans of kidney beans and add less water. The only reason for the pressure cooker was to make the beans soft. Kidney beans out of a can are already cooked through and soft.

  • hello

what if you dont have a blender

    sajid

  • why do not put onion it is really important in punjabi food

  • hello, I am a goan and we usually make all curry using paste of grated coconut. anytime i try to make northindian dishes with tomato puree paste it always tastes very tangy or very much like tomato soup. wonder wat goes wrong...

  • Very nice recipe, but might i suggest adding 1/2 cup of chopped shallots to the oil and 1 table spoon of cane sugar to the dish. I believe these ingredients will help give the dish some extra depth.

Despite that this is a very nice traditional recipe you have here.

  • Thanks for the great recipe! Can I use tomato puree instead of fresh tomatoes? Thank you :)

  • Hi manjula aunty. This recipe is great but my rajma is very red in colour (from the tomatoes i'm guessing). Rajma is supposed to look brown/ greenish, just like in your video. Is there something I'm doing wrong?

  • Who adds turmeric to Rajma?? That's completely unlike any Punjabi rajma recipe I've ever seen .............

  • @rajesharora2002 RajeshJee from Amritsar to Jalandaar everyone I know use's a little haldi in their Rajma. It have so great ayurvedic properties we should put it everywhere we can.

  • Dear Mrs. Manjula,

I learned how to cook Rajma from an Indian lady I know here in Maryland. The only problem is she doesn't speak english and I don't speak Hindi. She has spoiled me with punjabi food which I enjoy! I love Rajma and I am looking forward to watching more of your videos so I can surprise Ms. Sheela. Ms. Sheela makes one PUMPKIN recipe that I really like but I do not know the name--would you be familiar with this?

    Thanks so much,Mary

  • Great recipe! Is it made from a Vaishnava perspective? As I dont see any onions or garlic

  • Hello Manjula aunty,

I live on university campus so I don't have pressure cooker and also I will be using canned kidneybeans. Should I alternte the recipe in anyway?

  • Thanks aunty.. I cooked rajma using your recipe and it tasted nice. :) .. Sunny from Washington DC

  • Thanks aunty.. recipe worked very well for me. Rohit from Sydney

  • Can we used the canned Tomato Paste for this ?

  • is heavy cream same as heavy whipping cream available in grocery stores?

  • Thanks for the recipe! I have a quick question regarding using canned beans.. how will the cooking time change?

  • time you will be saving in boiling.

  • What if you don't have pressure cooker, pls?

  • it takes much longer if you dont pressure cook. what you can do is soak it in warm water for 5-6 hours to soften it adequately.

  • This is great Manjula Aunty!

  • ManjulaJI! I tried your recipe a few days ago. It turned out delicious. I got fond of Rajma Chawal while I was in India in 1989. I have never had Rajma this good since then. But, I am so glad that I finally found a great recipe for this dish. Thank you so very much. Could I also ask if you show us how to prepare Kala Channa? That's another one of my favorites that I miss and would love to know how to cook it. Thanking you in advance.

  • MMMM Thank you Auntie! I can't wait to make this. I am wondering, instead of many of the spices would it work to use some curry masala mix and some garam masala mix instead? I have both of those on hand but not much of the spices on their own...

  • Hello Manjula Ji,

I made this Rajma curry today following your recipe, it came out so good. Thanks for all your recipes, you make it so simple. I am reminded of my childhood days when my grandma used to teach me to cook. Keep up the great service!

    Thanks

  • can you teach some sweet dish from punjab.

  • Thanks for the tips on pressure cooker! I use high heat and everything burns all the time :(

Also, I have a question about your recipes... you don't use onions unlike many Indian recipes. Is this a personal choice or a specificity of the regional cuisine? Thanks!

  • Omission of meat, onions, garlic, etc is a Jain preference, and also shared by other religious persuasions

  • Should I add the salt before or after pressure cooking?

  • Thank you, I am gonna try it this week!

  • i also like that you use the indian words for the foods.

    i love ur channel/videos/recipes.

  • Thanks aunty...
