  • That is NOT a lady's voice!!!!

  • Looks like a used tampon talking

  • uuuu.... looks expensive :( i guess we won't be seeing them around in industrial applications any time soon...

  • what are they used for?

  • @ItlogNaEgg take a look at the fourth video in the series! :-)

  • @ItlogNaEgg in the future they predict it can be used for anything and everything, including an elevator to space

  • Why is Lady Nanotube Gaga bouncing about? Is she happy?

  • What is that plate used as the substrate?

  • whats with the talkin' red pickle?

  • @MrFennmeista It is Lady Nanotube "Gaga" :)

  • is it a possibility to mass produce carbon nano tubes, and if so could the be used for medical purposes?

  • Hi..I could not get the name of the metal (source) that is used as catalyst in the CVD process..

  • @krecian in this case it's iron (but nickel is also used a lot). But instead of starting with the iron on a surface, a gas of the molecule 'ferrocene' is used, a molecule with carbon, hydrogen, and one atom of iron in it. So the iron arrives in the gas at the same time as the carbon.

  • @nano2hybrids thanks for the info..do you have any references (videos would be great) on supercapacitors where carbon nanotubes are used..

  • Can you please tell me what furnace is used in this experiment. Which quality of glass is used in that glass tube which is put in the furnace and heated?

  • Hi Jawwadsaif, The furnace is a standard tube furnace which typically can get up to 1200C. The tube is a quartz glass tube.

  • I wondered if they can connect a nanotube to a buckyball. That would be a pretty good way to fasten things like a bike brake cable to a fastening to a brake lever.

  • So far I am not aware of anything like that.

If the nanotubes are opened ends and you put them in contact with buckyballs, buckyballs tends to enter inside the nanotubes (the form is called peapod) - given that the nanotube has an appropriate diameter.

Another form which "may be related" to what you suggest :) are nanobuds. Check the episode 5 of this serie to see some more nanoforms of carbon.

  • Hi, Do you know where I can find more details on carbon nanotubes synthesized by electrolysis? An experimental procedure is really what I'm looking for at the moment but I can't seem to find one anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

  • Check this two references:

    1. Electrolytic formation of carbon nanostructures by W.K. Hsu, et al

    Chemical Physics Letters, 262 (1996), p161-166

    2. Condensed-phase nanotubes by Hsu et al. Nature 377 (1995), p 687

    I hope it helps,

  • Thanks I'll have a look!

  • See the next videos! Number 4/5...

  • what are carbon nanotubes used for?

  • Thanx!!!, Ok and how can I made an intelligent polimer with this?, or some like this watch?v=JQHUZITimUI

  • Hi alex681219,

I tried to watch the video but the quality of the image is awful and the audio is cut a couple of times...

The carbon nanotubes can be considered as polymers (one monomer which is repeated many times along a chain). Also, they are mixed with polymer for a lot of their application. There is some research going on intelligent polymer and nanotubes, check Intelligent Polymer Research Institute in Wollongong website.
