What you (conveniently) don't see if the footage that took place before all this of the Ady Gil cutting back and forth across the whaling ship bow. The S.S. was out there, with no legal right to do so, committing illegal acts of violence. Even if the whalers intentionally rammed them, they were in their legal right to defend themselves...hence the reason the S.S. can't get anyone to press charges against the whalers. Period!

Notice the aft hose is static. Notice the stream of water doesn't move and keeps the same trajectory. Notice the aft stream of water doesn't swivel or change position to hit thAdy Gil.

You are correct this video here doesn't show the aft hose in a manner that you could tell it was an unmanned static hose at the time of the collision. Hopefully the video I pasted above clears it up.

Look more carefully. The Ady Gil is going forward at low speed. The wake that starts is the moment the sucking power of the Shonan Maru drags the very light Ady Gil towards it. In any case, sea law states that a ship coming from larboard has to turn. The Shonan Maru comes from the left, so it had to move away. Crossing right in front of the Ady Gil is against sea law, even more because the dragging power of a moving ship is well known (and exactly what you see demonstrated here)
