  • I've never seen anything this bad before... i think it was left WAY too long without being treated. As far gone as this poor snake is it should have been humanely euthanized!! It must have been in agony - skin hanging off of it like that and open sores. If scale rot is treated as soon as it has become apparent then it would never have gotten to this stage!! Sorry but no excuses for this!! Either kept in very poor conditions or general lacking in early treatment... end of story!!

  • @YoUrCoNsEqUeNcE I must stress that Jen & Andy had nothing to do with the snake getting to this stage. They only purchased it from a pet store in England.

  • @ErikPaterson Yeah i understand that... just emphasizing how awful the previous owners were to treat such a lovely animal in that way. It's good you post vids like this as it makes people realize how harmful it is to animals when they are neglected in any way. The person who owned the poor snake should be shot! Makes me sad and angry all at the same time... it's just horrendous.

  • @YoUrCoNsEqUeNcE Yeah, It's surprpsing the number of people who don't realize that it isn't their fault the snake got that bad too. This video was shot only a few days after they received it.

It ius absolutely shocking that someone could 'not notice' this and then proclaim that scale rot of this magnitude came about during a 5/6 hour drive up from England to Paisley!

  • @ErikPaterson Yeah i totally agree... 'not notice' indeed... and yeah, to then try and say it happened all of a sudden. What a load of rubbish people come up with hey?

I am just glad that there are good people out there as well, that help bring awareness of the neglectful idiots out there etc... and help save the lives of other potential Jasmine situations.

Jen and Andy did what they could :)

  • @YoUrCoNsEqUeNcE Yes, If I recall, they were even told that the reason it was coiled up amongst moss was because the snake was heavily gravid, which would lead Jen & Andy not to mess about with it too much in the shop! Fly buggers.

    Aye, definitely.

  • @ErikPaterson Omg... so that's their 'not noticing' excuse out the window, because just from that excuse the person was obviously hiding the problem. So it was actually the shop owner that kept the snake in those conditions?! Shocking... what shop was it? Or can you not give that info out? I understand if you can't but was curious what kind of so-called 'professionals' would do such a thing...

  • @YoUrCoNsEqUeNcE I'm afraid I don't actually recall the name of the shop, or the owner, btu I do believe he was selling it all up as he was moving abroad which is why nothing could be done re: his pet shop license etc. But, yeah. Crazy stuff!

  • at that point just end its misery

  • Poor thing.

  • yes wat type of iodine u use

  • I rescued a baby rubber boa, and she has scale rot, could you please tell me how to get rid of it.

I've raised the temperature, I'm giving her betadine baths, I've changed her bedding to paper towels, and I'm applying polysporin. What else should I do? She doesn't seem to be getting better, and I can't afford a vet visit at the moment.

  • most dscusting thing have ever seen

  • Aww poor soul, She was well behaved though. I had to work with Royals who have snake rot from burns, unfortunatly most of these dont make it and I can stress enough the need for thermostats and heating guards. Well dont though guys trying all you can, Shame there are so many people who cause these problems in the first place.

  • aww :(

  • Well i would never doubt your 7 or more years of experience with reptiles. But i am really doubt you made all what you can. From 3:32 just watch the fingernail of the guy. Disinfecting something, then touching it with that dirty nails... Nice one.

I haven't got a lot of experience, but i can use my mind.

  • @Ancienza Not my snake and not me treating it. The bloke treating it is Andy Webb who has many more years experience keeping snakes than I.

  • you evidently know what your doing. thanks was interesting

  • o wow. i only saw the first few seconds and i didnt wanna c anymore. suxs he/she had to go thru that

  • hello eric i need you to look at the video i just made. pheobe(bp) has really weird markings on her back that i havnt seen b4.

i keep her cage extremely clean, her humidity is at 50-60%, ive never seen her in her waterbowl. i am kinda scared and will be taking her for a chekup this week.

  • I'm sorry. My friend bought a lizard from this pet store, and he noticed blisters on it's belly. Unfortunately the lizard only lived a couple of months.

  • it was avoius tha she wasent going 2 make it make sure u dont own reptiles i hate people like u give it 2 the vet or something u aint got the knowlegde wa they have got you should of taken it there im sorry for the snake noy you

  • It was taken to the Vet, he gave Jen & Andy the medication to treat the snake.

Andy has over 20 years experience with snakes so he is more than capable of dealing with this situation.

it is not my snake, it was purchased by Jen & Andy from a pet store in England.

i myself have over 7 years experience keeping reptiles.

grow up, learn to spell and open your ears before you leave such comments.

  • How did it get scale rot

  • being allowed to sit in its own faeces & urates.

  • Learn to write you faggot!

  • @holdenlane

you should shut the fuck up you know that.

don't speak unless you know what you are speaking of.

Andy knows exactly what he is doing his love of reptiles is second to none.

This snake did not make it because it was so badly nfected with scale rot NOT because Andy didn't know what to do

  • I feel terrible for the poor animal...

thanks for the video, it's very educational.

I'm taking my turtle to the vet to treat an abcess, after seeing this, now I know I won't faint during the procedure...I think...

    thank you again!

  • So sorry to hear she didnt make it.

  • Sad to see this sort of thing happen, hope her condition is improving.

  • Wow. =/ What the Hell is a matter with people.

  • hey how does scale rot start off

  • full description of scale rot in the description of the video

  • man thats the worst ive seen it... good care vid tho

  • So sad, but good work you're doing. I don't understand WHY people have pets if they're not going to take care of them properly.

  • All credit goes to Jen & Andy for this one, i was just there with my camera, they have to do this twice a day every day alongside their jobs and maintaining the rest of their collection!

  • Really sad that it got that far. But very informaitive video! 5*

  • Another excellent video Erik, very interesting. I am liking these videos.

  • cheers Ash, have oen that i deem interesting that i have made today should be uploading soemtime next week

  • interersting to know this

  • apparently they don't have gloves in scotland---snakes carry all kinds of horrific bacteria

  • appropriate measures were taken with regards to hygene including using anti-bacterial hand wipes designed specificallky for use with Reptiles.

Yoiu're not telling me every animal you handle you handly with latex gloves?

  • You're friends are doing a very wonderful thing. Are you dating Jen by any chance? lol

  • haha, no, Jen is andy's Fiancé.

  • Damn, that looks really bad. Even if it does heal, I dont think it will have traction like it used to. I mean, it looks like all of the belly scales came off, ligaments and all. Crappy keepers. Nice video Erik.

  • yea, i reckon you're right but it;ll be better than living in pain like the surely must have been and likely still be too.

  • Yeah, I cant believe people let stuff like that happen and do nothing about it. I mean that snake must have been exspensive.

  • i wouldn't want to comment on that as i don't know for sure - but that snake never got like that overnight that much i know!

We reckon its been getting that way over around 9 months or so, there was plenty of time for something to be done.

but alas, what has happened has happened, hopefully she will continue to improve.

  • it looks like that snake is going to die

  • this is a possibility but with the treatment it is recieving there is a possibility that it shal pull through

  • This is the only time I have ever cringed from a animals state of health. I've seen lots of violent acts inflicted upon live animals. Mutilations and all sorts of cruelty... They all died afterwards. That might be why I find this so nasty. That just looks like a painful way to live.

But I've heard of incidents with reptiles that were worse than this (depending on how you look at it)... I don't see why this specimen shouldn't end up good to go in the long run.

    Thanks for posting this, Erik!

  • i know, when i first saw it i never thought much (the top scales are not too bad)

but when i saw its underbelly i was in a state of shock otherwise i'd have chimed in a little more during this video.

just dumbfounded as to how a snake can get into this condition without treatment!

    cheers!

  • dun u think its better off if u like put it down

coz it looks so pain full

  • it does look painful and likely is but theres no ened to put it down, it can and seems to have a good chance a making a full recovery

  • Respect Jen & Andy!!!

Good on you Erik for outing the truth.

Who the hell would keep a Herp in a pathetic state and conditions like this?

  • it is surprisingly more common than you would think & a real shame!

  • massive respect due to Jen & Andy!! also respect to you Erik for posting mate

  • yea mate its something everyone should be aware of really mate!

  • Jeez, thats one of the worst cases i've seen. Good thing its in good hands now. Hopefully you can make videos every once in a while to show us its progress and how its doing.

    ~Brandon

  • aye, andy says this is the worst he has ever seen also, i hope i can perhaps do that yes.

    Erik

  • is that the acereptiles one? i was gonna by that pair and honestly i wouldnt know what to do if a courier dropped that off

  • well. Yes.

it is shocking but it is in good hands for sure!

  • thats fuckin sick i feel bad for that snak

  • it is a real shame yes, makes you wonder how a person can let an animal get into that condition.

but hopefully this video will raise awaremess and help people to treat their animals.

  • that looks real bad =[

  • It is, hopefully this video will help raise some awareness though as to how bad it can get. Andy has (i believe) over 20 years of reptile experience under his belt so he is more than capable of helping the wee lassie get back to top condition!
