The problem was twofold: first, there was only so much that one could do with this type of setting and scenario. Great for a movie, but hard to drag out into a television series. Second, the movie Animal House became celebrated for its raunch, something which prime time in the late 1970s would not tolerate. Thus, the writers had to tone everything down, thereby taking the luster away that made the movie so appreciated.
Each of the three networks released frat comedies, trying to take advantage of the popularity of Animal House. This was the best of the three, although that isn't saying much. It's nice to see this clip again, just to remember how young I was when it premiered. It was a pretty poor show though, and didn't last long.
1977-1978 is when stereo audio was introduced, and as such, a lot of new laughs had to be recorded for the laugh track because the old ones were mono and converting them to stereo left undesirable results... HOWEVER, listening carefully to episodes of Delta House, I hear a mix of old pre-1977 laughs and the then newly recorded laughs.
Another factoid - Delta House was also produced by Elias Davis & David Pollack, who were among those responsible for killing M*A*S*H after Season Seven.
Doesn't matter, this is till great seeing even a couple of minutes after all these years. Thanks for the post and someday, someway I'll find the show again, I hope.
Alas, like most great movies, attempts to transform them into television sitcoms tend to come up short. The absence of John Belushi and Tim Matthews was only part of the problem, as both the plots and the writing for Delta House were seriously lacking.
I remember this show. I watched every week I think. All I remember is one episode where they hung Dean Wormers car outside his window. Wish I could get all the episodes...
Even shows that only mention Jim Belushi suck.
Jim Blutoski, classic.

I remember this series as well, it was tepid at best. @lilgreekguy, his name is Tim Matheson.

Canned laughter and Animal House do not mix (Animal House is too good for canned laughter).

I heard that they used other sound effects like boos to go along with the laugh track. Did they also canned applause, or clapping?
